Hi folks
I’m tempted to pick up some Germans in 28mm, just the grenadiers/ Panzer grens as per the main rule book. I’m at a loss as to which mini range to go for, as in proper Goldilocks fashion I can’t seem to figure out which is quite right!
For opposition, I’ve got a US platoon, made mainly of Perry plastics with a few specialists drawn from Rubicon and Empress.
I’ve looked at Iron Cross, who seem to do a good core range (but lack support options). The sculpts on their website look great (https://ironcrossminiatures.com/shop/). Does anyone have any experience with them?
My second option is 1st Corps, who seem to have a really comprehensive and well-priced range, but I wonder if they’re a bit dated and may not scale well with my US troops?
Finally, I looked at a combination of Empress heavy weapons/ NCOs and Rubicon riflemen, as my experience on the US side suggests they’ll work together.
I’d be grateful for any thoughts/ experience you have on this!
Cheers!

I have the 1st Corps later war Germans, and I like them, but they are big and quite chunky in style. The faces can be quite 'cartoon', (with a few of the British lantern jawed infantry looking like they escaped from a 'Battle' comic). They do have a decent variety, as I mix in some of the figures with smocks with the ones in shirtsleeves. They would work better for 42-44, imho, as the very late war figures I think should look like they are in cold weather gear, and with more kit.
They are not a good match for the Perrys in size or bulk, but having said that, I have the Perry GIs and once they are painted, they will be taking on my 1st Corps Germans.
I also have the Empress Italians, which are lovely sculpts, and their Germans look equally good, so if it was me, starting from scratch, I would stick with Empress.

Have you thought about Black Tree Design? Colonel Bill always has squads of these at second hand prices. They are still nice sculpts.

Thanks Stuart, appreciate the offer, and thanks for the advice folks. In the end in a complete 360 I ended up going for Fallschirmjager from Offensive Minis. Panzer Grens will have to wait for the time being!
