Hi all
Herewith my recent fantasy miniature additions. These are Trolls to accompany my orc army manufactured by a Russian company called Tehnolog. See: http://www.tehnolog.ru/product.php
I think these are some of the nicest Troll miniatures I have seen and are excellent for the price. Ordered mine on Ebay for as little as £6.08 with postage for all four miniatures. Also ordered their Minotaur miniatures. I think their Dwarves will make good statues.

Many people seem to dislike the second miniature here from the left. He looks like the commander and I am pleased the way he came out.

The miniature on the far right here is my favourite.
These will certainly add some weight to my orc army. I will still be basing these.

Nice work, the cheap Tehnolog 54mm stuff really paints up surprisingly well, been tempted a few times myself.

Cait Sidhe give 'em a go, they are well worth the price and long wait for delivery. Most fantasy players I imagine can always do with a few Trolls.
They apparently come in two types, hard and soft plastic. These were soft plastic, which I washed and undercoated with grey spray paint. They did paint up nicely in the end. Detail is lacking in parts. They had a few join lines, nothing serious - which was easy to get rid of with sharp knife and needle file. Indeed, I sharpened and shortened the axe and sword blades slightly. Adding also a bit of "battle damage" here and there.

I ordered the Minotaurs on the 14th March and they should have arrived two days ago but still waiting. Tracking suggests they are en route. I think they would be good for a number of things including maybe additions to a Beastmen type army.

Thank you Rick. Think it proves yet again that one does not need to necessarily splash out lots of cash in order to find suitable miniatures.

Herewith another example of taking what was ostensibly a toy and converting it to a wargame miniature. This was found in my garden buried in the dirt. A wrestler toy of some sort that I thought would be fun to resurrect into some sort of giant barbarian sort.

'orrible shiny toy wrestler - some green stuff and weapons added. The spear method here I do regularly as a conversion get steel rod and or bristles from brushes work depending on scale, drill a hole and weapon done.

Added a shoulder pad and cheesy horns etc. Mask become a helmet. A lick of paint. The shield was a button I painted on a design of a dragon by hand. Which I am rather happy with. Overall effect is a huge improvement I think. I have added some more detail and flocking since these pictures.

If I recall correctly I sprayed them with Humbrol grey spray paint or Tamiya Primer. Then gave light wash and dry brush to highlight some of the details and then painted. I had some paint chipping issues on one face and one weapon so I painted these areas with a thin coat of Mod Podge. On handling them now, they are fine and the paint has remained intact. I am used to painting soft plastic 1/72 miniatures and these are a similar plastic so no issues. On retrospect I would have not sprayed them as the above issues would then have been avoided.

I wanted Ents that looked like a tree and could easily hide among other forest trees. Ideal for surprising the enemy and smashing anyone wondering into their forest.

This one is not by Tehnolog, but he is a toy Minotaur, which I repainted, he like the ones above still needs to be based. He came with some knights and other fantasy miniatures and he is like a miniature version of the Schleich toys.

This one in my mind is rather "classic" looking indeed I may well use him for a game against some 1/72 Greeks.

Size comparison. I am happy with the Tehnolog Minotaurs and feel I have now filled what I saw as a gap in my collection. Also I think the Trolls are better quality and looking miniatures. Still if one wants some cheap large monsters these certainly fit the bill. and are fun to paint up.

Great work! I've been curious about the technolog stuff and you've answered a lot of questions. I especially like what you've done with the wrestler except I think you forgot to sculpt him some nipples! lol

This chap is rather brutish and Minotaur like. Old Dungeons and Dragons miniature.

This nasty beast was a toy. It was a translucent orange and only originally had 2 eyes on one side so I added another 2. I have no idea what it is, or for that matter what it was originally meant to be. I do not think I will base this one as I am unlikely to use it much, if ever, and if I do would like it to be able to also be placed in a snow or dungeon setting. Having said that I really enjoyed painting it. I gave the purple tentacle like tongue a gloss varnish as well as the eyes. I imagine it bounding around like a puppy and eating rocks which it dissolves in acid - making it a rather nasty beasty to encounter... or some such. I think I will call him Roggle. A romping rock eating Roggle.

Herewith, some statues to demarcate the Elven Kingdoms.

Elven bits here taken from the Lord of the Rings Risk pieces. Risk is a terrible game and not worth playing, no matter the variant. Try Avalon Hill's Diplomacy instead. Stone carved from blue foam, with eagles mounted on what had been pen lids. The standard bearer continues the flying eagle theme of my Elven army. Miniature is old GW. Banner is foil with metal rod.

These are molded in dentist clay using old Prince August Fantasy chess set, see: https://shop.princeaugust.ie/
They look suitably ancient and broken. The bases here were from wedding cake pillars. The miniature is a Mithril miniature.

Herewith, Landsknechte Renaissance styled fantasy miniatures mostly from Games Workshop. Thinking these could also be ideal for historical and fantasy as well as for a Ghost Archipelago crew/warband. Idea being a Spanish like Empire have discovered a new world inspired by the likes of Games Workshops Lustria. Likely enemy being the Ghost Archipelago Tribal miniatures. Project was inspired by the three following command figures one has a crocodile like head and an admirals uniform. The pirate like female being a contessa sort. The manufacturer for these is unknown and I picked them up cheaply on ebay.

Decided to make some barricades for them. Wood pile made from left over barricade material thought they would also have something similar lying around.

For the movement tray I lined the bottom with paper print out of grass so even when the miniature is removed it still looks like terrain.

Herewith, 10mm Forest Dragon Bretonnia Miniatures - Knights.
As a fair amount of detail will be obscured once based I wanted to take pictures of both sides of the knights. As yet bases are incomplete and I will do these once all the miniatures are painted up so as to do any final touch-ups and to make sure all the bases are consistent in appearance. These are 3D printed miniatures and can be purchased ready-made from various sources online. Certainly, a quick and cheap way to do a Bretonnia army.

For the two on the right here I asked my wife and son for the colour choices - hence blue and orange what my son calls the Nerf knight and of course a pink knight - no doubt he is popular with the ladies when jousting.

Cheers Little Odo - they are super cute as an army and take up very little room. Found them much quicker and easier to paint than 28mm.

The Forest Dragon 10mm 3D printed minis have incredible detail. Almost certainly the best 10mm miniatures on the market.
Although I have been a historic painter for most of my adult life, I took the leap and bought a high elves army. When I had the minis in my hands, I was just astonished. Am presently starting my project of painting them.
Keep up the good work. Your Bretonnia army is looking ace!

Herewith, 10mm Forest Dragon Bretonnia Miniatures - Peasant Militia. Of all these miniatures thus far I found these in many ways the hardest to paint but they are one of my favourite units, as I do enjoy gaming with poor quality units as they bring a certain entertainment value. The undead army by Forest Dragon has zombies that are undead versions of the peasants, which is rather cool.

The Troll is not a particularly nice miniature however he paints up rather well - shown with men-at-arms for size.

The Nazgul is bit larger than the other 10mm cavalry but then being a nasty beasty like this perhaps being a little larger actually works. Certainly an apt miniature for an undead army which I am hoping to do next.

So in order to complete the Bretonnia army I have one more set to purchase, namely, Pegasus Knights and maybe add some Empire-armoured Knights and crossbowmen (mercenary/allies) and then onto an undead army as the enemy. I would also like to do some of the Forest Dragon Trolls with some orcs as well as maybe Forest Elves.
I do need to get around to doing all the bases and any final touch-ups here and there. Like to also maybe scratch build a castle for them.

Cheers Blacksoilbill, I must admit I really like 10mm having had so much fun with 10mm ECW I jumped at the opportunity to put together a Bretonnian 10mm army. Old 28MM Bretonnia miniatures have become very expensive so this is an option many might consider.

Herewith, a terrifying beasty in many ways spider and in other ways shadow. It is also very large with bulbous eyes. Not even sure what it is but got it cheap on eBay and had loads of fun painting it up. Attempted to use loads of different shades of black - with glossy pure black eyes. As Has Been said " I don't know what the 'thing in the wood' is, but it frightens me."

Looking at my Haunter again, mine came attached to its base, the miniature has bits dangling underneath it, which one could add blobs of venom to or some such... seeping out of it - which could make it even that more disgusting and horrifying.
Whilst it appears overall black I did add loads of shading of blues, purples, browns, reds and greens etc. before doing the overall black - providing a depth and range of black therefore which one can hardly discern in the pictures but in good light and in person add a depth of shades to this shadowy visage.
Yes, I thought a worn scarecrow would provide sufficient leeway for any mistakes. So seems to have paid off. Maybe I should try an alien next...
For some reason, I feel nervous painting said scarecrow - maybe because that will cover up my work. lol

Herewith, the start of my snow and ice fantasy miniatures. So, yes ideal for the likes of Frostgrave, but in actuality miniatures, I have been planning to put into the snow for many years.
Thought I would finally get round to it... Let's start with the arch villain herself, my ice queen, in my world, Argon she is a true vampire, who can walk in the light. This is the old GW Dark elf miniature. Somehow she looks even more malevolent in light colours. I have also made her a wall of ice spell effect - a useful defensive measure. The ice wall is made from clear plastic card covered in glue gun with snow flock and crushed glass.

Well, an Ice Queen needs an Ice Demon. So here he is. The miniature originally had an extended head with horns attached - which I disliked, I, therefore, cut the head down to size and separated the horns.

Cheers Citizen Sade - specifically wanted to avoid the typical GW look here, which maybe blue would create. My summer equivalents are for instance green. Wanted largely metallic gold and silver with white and then all leather and wood being very light in colour too. Realise won't be everyone's cup of tea but I do enjoy deviating from the standard.

I think a nice powder/sky blue would be a good idea.
It would add to the wintery feel, while breaking up the white.
I would also be tempted to apply a coloured hem, with the
use of a Gel Pen, or even a glitter Gel Pen.

The statues look nice, especially with the snow on them.
I don't think I could be bothered reapplying it though.
I would fix it in place.
The Bronze(?) knights look too shiney, well to me at least.
I would mix up & thin down a turquoise paint (or ink) & let
it run down the figures. Looks like verdigris. Try it on one,
if you don't like it you can wash it off before it dries.
Keep up the good work.
Keep an eye out for incomplete chess sets (Charity shops
& car boot sales) as they are great for statues, ornate door-
ways, altar 'gods' etc. I fix a few together on a scenery base
as it saves set up/break down time & means you can add
some smaller details. Broken walls, skellies & other detritus.

The wizard here originally had a wolf head skin on his head, but as I have two of these miniatures including the mounted version I thought with this one that I would change his staff to a skull and the wolf to a bear given the theme of his unit.

Herewith some fantasy warriors the one may well be able to double as a Joan of Arc - though not ideal for the role she will have to do till a find someone better. But otherwise relatively useful generic fantasy.

Help needed - I am looking for any suggestions/links for additional spells to use for Dragon Rampant.

Got two of my armies out of storage and want to touch them up, finish them and get some games of Dragon Rampant in with them. Elven cavalry still need work, Dwarven cavalry need some more bears and I would like to add another unit of dwarves on ponies and then I also still have two units of Mantic Dwarves to paint and then a old GW canon to fix up, etc.

Pixie Ballista indeed lol I am going to call it that from now on... It was originally crewed by Grenadier Orcs. i added a little base to make it stand better and also the ropes for a bit more realism. Grenadier have a Dwarven equivalent a giant crossbow crewed by two dwarves. Which I have but have misplaced it may well be with my dwarven snow army. lol
I am busy with army lists at the moment and yes many points worth of options for Dragon Rampant games. Hope to have a game with some of them tonight at the local club Wycombe Warband.

Good taste, those are classy ‘evil knight’ figures. I like how they look very menacing, without being too over-the-top - they might be corrupted by chaos, or just nasty people, one never knows…

Cheers Pattus Magnus - they look to me as more "evil" than many of the over-the-top miniatures one sees... Chaos knights being a prime example.
It is a pity that there has always been a lack of options for evil-looking humans, especially ones that are not cheesy or over the top. You know the sort covered in horns and skulls etc.
These Grenadier knights also remind me of the knights and armour seen in some of the opening first battle scenes in the Excalibur film.

I love what you did on the shields! To me, they look more wild and chaotic than the usual chaos sigils and skulls (is it just me, or does anyone else find many of GW’s chaos figures often end up looking quite orderly - all packing the same sigils and similar grimdark armour and colour palettes?) These guys could also fit right into a wilderness/ nature army, for added versatility.

Herewith, some Lizardmen by Wargames Atlantic - nice little set that come with a number of options in weapons and heads one can even go for a Sci-Fi feel. With the three I have I have gone with the bulbous eyes more traditional fantasy feel. These be good for games like Ghost Archipelago. I am most likely to use them mostly as allies to me Goblins.
I am happy with the jungle-like foliage on the bases - these plants I made out of paper. I did little spots for the skin markings and the leader has more of these which is why he is the leader.
