After getting rid of my entire collection, it wasn’t massive but would have been helpful! I e started an ork, space pirate and marine project, some members on the laf have been most helpful in helping me squire figures, most grateful to them! Anyway stripped some orks, and started the dreadnought commander, he might go in a tank though yet!
-
Looking forward to seeing this 8)
-
Great stuff, I also plan on doing something similar with RT Ork raiders "Thrugg Bullneck" vs. Crimson Fists in the Battle for the Farm and possibly the follow up mission in the first book of the astronomican.
Proper orks and 3rd edition plastic marines (no beakies unfortunately :()
Plan is to use Rogue Trader rules and then One Page Rules for each battle, and see which one I prefer?
Anyway I need to adapt the Marines paintjob and I need to paint the Orks, before I do anything.
Good luck with your project.
Glen

Brilliant start. Can't wait to see the progress :D

Me too!

Looking forward to seeing this progress.
-
Looking great! I just started a RT Blood Angels army. Mind if I share pics here?
-
Thanks a lot guys, got some scenic stuff on the go too! Why not start your own thread tauntaun scout? I would be interested in following that
-
Did some sci fi desert type plants over the last week, pretty pleased how they turned out since they didn’t cost me really anything to make, I already had the palms, used pinecones which had been chewed, saw a webpage called war factory some years ago and he used the pinecones with a different type of foliage, I went for palms, pretty chuffed how they turned out!
-
Those turned out well cool. Quite impressed.
-
Me too!
;D
Me three ;D

Very cool build :-* :-* :-*

Very effective.

-
I love them too :D
-
Cheers!
-
Fantastico :-*
-
Brilliant!
:-* :-*
That first Ork was the first Ork I ever painted (not as well as that, of course!).
I may have to look for another just for nostalgia's sake.
:)
-
Thanks guys!
-
That astropath is delightful! One of my favourite RT figures and I love the choice of colour on the robe.
-
Great figures and lovely paintjobs.
-
Thanks very much fellas!
-
I love the metallics on the ork with the helmet!
-
Thanks, I’ve got a few more armoured fellows to go with him too
-
Very good. The dude wearing shades and stripy trousers... :)
-
Some more stuff! This guys from wargames foundry but made his first appearance in the rogue trader rule book way back
-
Brill 8)
-
A few more bits!

And some grots! Went for a really bright look to these little shits lol

Follow up mission with the Crimson Fists was actually in White Dwarf 94 Battle of Jadeberry Hill.
First Book of the Astronomicon was the Wolf Time campaign, which was Space Wolves not Crimson Fists.

Ooooh!
Lovely additions.
:-* :-*
Keep 'em coming!

Paul I’ve got loads of your stuff basecoated ready to go!

-
I look forward to seeing what you do with them.
:D
Me too, excellent work :-*
-
Great new additions. I really like the non-Tusken raider - where is he from?
-
He’s from blind begger miniatures, masons company
-
Awesome work Andy! Grots look even more awesome than when I last saw them!
-
Pretty cool stuff! Please post more!
-
Thanks fellas! Working on some more right now
-
Scenery preview ;D
Ive been busy with some polystyrene packaging
-
Scenery preview ;D
Ive been busy with some polystyrene packaging
Now THAT is proper old skool!
8)
-
The packaging was then cut into blocks, shaped, scored, whittled etc, then slightly heated with a lighter, then each block was glued to another to form Mesa type rock formations, a skewer held them together as well, next the ‘rock’ was textured using some valegio pumice
Excuse the bare knee in the bottom pick ;D
-
Aha! Not what I thought is was going to be lol
-
nice project
-
Aha! Not what I thought is was going to be lol
Were you thinking "underground hideout with a vague Tatooine vibe" too? Maybe dug into an asteroid with the big space as a docking bay?
-
I thought people might think I was going to do a building! It’s got to be the cheapest terrain I’ve ever done, after the paste dried I applied a coat of army painters sand, then hit it over then painted from above with wraithbone spray, next came a dark thin reddish brown, brush on, and wipe off with sponge, starting to look more rock like now here’s some more pics
-
Colours look great 8)
-
Looking good!
-
It’s got to be the cheapest terrain I’ve ever done
You need to make friends with a building contractor and get them to toss you their cast-off insulation foam leftovers. Works even better than styrofoam as the core for this kind of build and costs nothing since it was headed for a landfill anyway. You even get to feel good about helping recycle. :)
Looking good so far, very convincing rock textures and shapes.
-
Awesome dude, I love the old rogue trader models.
-
Thanks guys, the cheapo polystyrene works well and since it’s old tv packaging saves it going into the rubbish dump, I will get some pics done of the finished item plus some more of my rogue trader stuff I’ve done over the last few months
-
Another bit of scenery started this will sit on the corner of the games table, it’s mainly for taking pics of my models against
-
Excuse the bare knee in the bottom pic ;D
oo-er missus! I fink I might need a lie-down now.
-
A few more bits , picked up the dread quite cheap off eBay recently, the tanks from a fellow laffer, I’m not far off finished with the dread but no pics yet
-
oo-er missus! I fink I might need a lie-down now.
Crikes, that's a knee? Thought it was a balding noggin.
-
Crikes, that's a knee? Thought it was a balding noggin.
🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂
-
Lovely old-school Gumball of Death there, BTW. Adding a few more modern parts (Chaos Marauder banner, is that?) really spruces it up some.
-
Gotta love them there rocks, good colour choices.
:-*
Nice work on that tank too, proper old skool.
8) 8)
-
Cheers guys! Rich your right it’s from the old marauders sprue!
-
Cheers guys! Rich your right it’s from the old marauders sprue!
Weirdly, it's also the new marauder sprue. They've never updated the sculpts for those, for better or worse. I suppose the Warcry cultists got their slot in the production schedule or something, they can certainly proxy for them easily enough.
I will never stop thinking of them as Chaos Thugs, though. The mostly naked chumps were thugs back in the day, marauders were actually dangerous and had some armor. :)
-
Yeah it’s about time they updated those marauders! I remember the old metal Citadel marauders, sure I have some mixed in with my chaos warriors
-
More work on the backdrop rock formation
-
Looks great so far 8)
-
Yeah it’s about time they updated those marauders! I remember the old metal Citadel marauders, sure I have some mixed in with my chaos warriors
GW's metal Chaos line was wonderfully weird and varied, although I have to admit the shift to modular plastics did make kitbashing for even greater variety easier. The thu...er, marauder plastics are awfully dated and have that same unfortunate physique the poor Catachan jungle fighters have been saddled with for decades, but I have to admit they look okay if you put a bit of extra work into them and don't use the, ah, garish color scheme the catalog photos use. Be nice to see new ones with better poses and anatomy but not if it resulted in yet another set of monopose models like they've been doing lately. Even the Warcry stuff left me disappointed in that regard.
-
I’ve been painting a lot of stuff over the past few months, but needed a decent background to take the pics of my stuff against, I think it’s worked as the pics look nice and bright with an old school feel! Any questions feel free to ask!!
-
And more!
-
And a few more! Drop squad zoltan
-
And a few more ….
-
Promise this is it! Some buildings from oshiro and fogou and very nice they are too!
-
What a feast of RT splendour! I'm liking everything I'm seeing here, but Drop Squad Zoltan is fantastically conceived and executed.
-
Excellent thread, velvety smooth painting. I love the colours on squad Zoltan.
Keep it coming.
-
Man, that's some wonderful nostalgia there. Wish I'd held on to more stuff from that era, so much personality - even the robots. :)
-
Just seen this thread, love them!
These are probably the only SF figures that would tempt me away from fantasy ( must resist temptation!)
Then again, ive still got Spacefarers to paint!
Superb work!
-
Awesome, Andy! Just awesome! :o :-*
-
Thankyou for the kind comments guys!
-
Superb!
-
Bit of a set up on the table, I need more buildings and some kind of runway/landing area
-
Cracking work mate, missed all the figures earlier and the buildings look great 8)
-
That all looks lovely - I'm particularly happy to see some of the old robots on the board! :-*
-
Cheers guys, James I love those buildings will defo be getting some more
-
Such old school loveliness :-*
-
Cheers!
-
Great work, with a great classic feel.
-
Really lovely stuff in this thread majorsmith, well done!
I particularly like squad Zoltan, both the colours and their overall appearance - they look very elite. :)
-
Lot's of awesome stuff here. Another vote for how awesome squad Zoltan look: it's a really nice colour scheme.
-
Thanks again guys!
-
Just finished Cp models grem alliance space trolls, loved painting him, got another two on the go, he’s quite tall, seen pictured with Gorby da shiny in the upper picture during the invasion of Boris prime
-
Excellent, he fits really well 8)
-
That whole Grem range is terrific. Like finding a whole new RT figs that you somehow missed back in the 80s. :)
-
Loving that troll.
-
Ooh very nice - I did my three green, however the blue is very appealing and I may
steal homage your colours with a repaint ???
Glen

If GW has taught me anything, it's that the blue ones are luckier. :)
-
If GW has taught me anything, it's that the blue ones are luckier. :)
LOL maybe and that red wunz go faster also.
-
Cheers guys, I almost went with a green, but thought blue might contrast nicely with the orks and grots I have, I used foundry British blue grey for the skin
-
That troll is excellent :-*
-
Absolutely love the troll! :-*
I went over to CP models to see if I could get a few, but there only seems to be one sculpt with three different heads. Hopefully they eventually release a few more torso/arm options to make a little squad. :)
-
Awesome thread!
Please keep the good things coming.
-
Excellent!
He even makes that Ork look handsome (in a weird way...).

Yes please. The single pose had been my main sticking point - troll thugs really ought to come in pairs, if not more.
Only thing I'd change on the paint job would be the pants, which blend in a bit with the skin tone. Went to all the trouble of striping the orc's pants, why not the troll's? :)
-
Thanks guys, I’ve done mauve trousers on one of the others but I’m happy with the grey trousers on two of them they look better in person than the pictures, as for stripes I might try on the other grey trousered troll
-
Troll patrol!
-
Lovin’ it!
-
Lovin’ it!
Yup me too!
-
Great work, love the trolls
-
Looking good. Honestly can't decide which noggin I like best out of the three.
-
Cheers guys they were a pleasure to paint!
-
Lovely, well done! :-*
Honestly can't decide which noggin I like best out of the three.
Same here lol
-
Nice!
8) 8)
-
lovely (!).
just about to go that kind of direction in terms of skin colours with some space orks.
bit more pinky/ purple.
-
Love the two new ones 8)
-
Cheers fellas
-
Great-looking trolls! It always surprises me that there weren't Rogue Trader trolls, but Diego has nicely filled the gap. I like the red notes on the skin - Great level of realism.
-
yeah fantastic sculpts and a real joy to paint too, the guy with the cigar and Mohawk reminds me of an unsavoury 1970s top of the pops host
-
Ork dreadnought, added my own banner, plasma weapon is a plastic one from the old plastic ork boxed set, went for the rust bucket look, with red for a nice bright contrast , and orks love red 😂
-
Good old Gumball of Doom there, as they were known in local circles back in the Eighties. :)
You remind me I've got a set of modern killa kans to do yet in my unending attempts to reduce the gray plastic mound to a reasonable level.
-
You remind me I've got a set of modern killa kans to do yet in my unending attempts to reduce the gray plastic mound to a reasonable level.
Yeah the new plastic ones are still pretty cool, I did a some a few years back
-
and orks love red 😂
Only because they go faster :D
Looks great 8)
-
Love this whole thread - lots of inspiration! That killer-can is amazing.
-
Cheers Keith!
-
Special figure for BOYL at foundry I painted up for them, Bob Naismith pirate captain, a really super figure!!
-
That’s cracking!
-
That's brilliant! It was fantastic to see a painted version in the cabinet yesterday. I did wonder who has done the lovely paintwork!!
-
Cheers! I never got to meet you but I saw the lovely Bob olley unit you did in the cabinet!! Can’t wait to see how you paint up your pirate captain!
-
Very cool 8)
-
lovely work on a great miniature.
-
Cheers!
-
Great figure and cracking paint job!
-
Cheers Paul!
-
Boy, that's a beauty, both sculpt and painting. That fig commercially available anywhere?
-
It’s not available anywhere now unless your around wargames foundry today? Last day of BOYL show after that, that’s it for them!
-

Sigh. Another one I'll never own.
-
Yeah unfortunately being a show special figure that’s the way, shame as it’s such a cool figure! You never know you might pick one off eBay!
-
That BOYL figure is fantastic. Too bad it's not more widely available.
-

Hell will freeze over first. Limited edition, artificial scarcity and FOMO marketing gimmicks fill me with blinding hatred. Might as well be GW.
-

Not the same thing.
This is a 'show special' for those who attend BOYL and, as BOYL is not run for profit, it is a more of a 'thank you' for all those who attend and contribute in some way.
That is my take on it anyway...
:)
-
Paul your spot on, it’s a gift for attendees supporting the show
-
Yes and, as a freebie, selling on is frowned upon. Not in the Oldhammer spirit and all that.
-
What the other guys have said is correct. BOYL is a free event, hosted by Foundry. The figure is a gift to the attendees. The sculpt is funded by donations from a small group of gamers who ask for no recognition. It is given to the wider community who take the effort to attend the event. It is very kindly cast up for free by Foundry.
It is not a limited edition marketing gimmick in the slightest.
Cheers! I never got to meet you but I saw the lovely Bob olley unit you did in the cabinet!! Can’t wait to see how you paint up your pirate captain!
Glad you like those! We'll have to wear name tags next year ;)
-
Awesome work on that captain, Andy. Great figure! Bet BOYL was awesome, especially after so long!
-
Glad you like those! We'll have to wear name tags next year ;)
Yes definitely! 😂😂😂
Was a busy show considering the weather and petrol problems!
-
Some orks for orktober :)
-
Family pic of my small ork force
-
Lovely, still the best Orks!
Great paint job
-
Cracking stuff, love the face paint 8)
-
Cheers fellas!
-
Love the old rogue trader /2nd edition era orks.
-
Great job on the orks.
-
Splendid :-*
-
Cheers dudes!
-
Love them :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Fantastic work :-*
-
really nice classic Orks!
-
Thanks guys!
-
Those new Orks are a bit special! This thread is developing nicely :)
-
Those are superb.... wish I remembered to paint an ork for the month - will have to rush to get one ready by the weekend...
-
Thanks guys!
-
Ork tank, big ass chunky no nonsense chunk of resin, but bloody good fun to paint up! Driver is blue tacked in because I’m still not sure if this is where he’s going to stay!
-
Love it! 'ez got da big dakka!
-
Fantastic, the driver looks well suited 8)
-
Stunning additions to the force, mate, although I do pity the fool who presses 'Da Big Red Button' and fires the gun on that tank!
:-* :-*
-
Cheers paul!
-
Some more boyz!
-
Those chaps are brilliant, exactly how space orbs should be painted 8)
-
Brill 8)
-
Splendid old skool, love 'em
-
What a great thread.
Excellent hairy stick action, keep em coming.
-
Thanks fellas, I’ve got loads of figures to go yet, more jump troops, imperial guard, pirates etc and obviously more orks!
-
Lovely job on some proper classic Orks.
:-* :-*
I loved the way that Orks looked then compared to where they have gone in more recent times.
::)
-
Cheers paul, yes those old orks have so much more character and s more organic feel!
-
Liking those orks!
-
Inquisitor just done, the figure was in bad shape no bolter or left hand, metal bolter replacement and used a rt space marine plastic hand and scanner worked well I think! Oh a primaris marine backpack too
-
Great work again.
Was that figure originally converted from the traitor general from Rogue Trooper?
-
He's a belter 8)
-
Always liked this miniature.Very nice work bringing him back to life.
-
Oh, he looks the business, mate.
8) 8)
-
Great work again.
Was that figure originally converted from the traitor general from Rogue Trooper?
Yes I think so, and also a chaos warrior?
Thanks guys he’s one of my all time favourites from the RT figure range even though he’s an odd sculpt!
-
Yes I think so, and also a chaos warrior?
Thanks guys he’s one of my all time favourites from the RT figure range even though he’s an odd sculpt!
Does look like that.
Always liked him too, felt he should have a visor of some sort to finish his helmet off
-
If I pick up another one I might add a visor 🤔
-
Lovely work on that Inquisitor. All the buttons on his scanner pop nicely against the grey armour.
-
Excellent. I really like that neutral grey on him, very no nonsense authoritarian.
The left hand on the original sculpt is terrible, it's barely there, so yours is a definite improvement.
-
Special figure for BOYL at foundry I painted up for them, Bob Naismith pirate captain, a really super figure!!
Is this figure OOP? Or still available somewhere? Thanks!
-
Nah he was an oldhammer BOYL show special only available to attendees of the weekend, lovely figure
-
Using the big marine's backpack was a nice touch. It adds to the feel that the armor is very heavy, and probably difficult to wear for extended periods.
-
Back from the dead but here’s a few additions….. flamer conversion skilfully executed by mason from the this forum
-
Well those certainly look the business. Nice work.
-
Lovely work
-
You painted them well. They look very old school.
-
Oh my goodness! Pure Rogue Trader joy! :-*
-
They certainly look the business, mate.
Those shiny domes are so good!
:-* :-*
-
I particularly like the dark helmets!
-
Great stuff! Looking good! ;)
-
Cheers guys!
-
Very cool 8)
-
It’s been awhile but here’s another space ork!
-
Top job mate 8)
-
Lovely work, proper orks!
-
No idea why he’s sideways on! But thanks lads ;D
-
It is a very lovely thing!
-
Here’s another! Ork dok! A rather rarer and harder to find figure, I think due to the plastic armed orks coming out these weren’t so popular? Any way here he is 😎
I included a rear view to show off the flayed grot!
-
Love that Doc!
-
The dok is everything I loved in RT :-*
-
Missed this. So very cool but my favourite was the one with the scissors lol
-
Cheers guys
-
A classic character. The docs look very old school indeed.
