Title: Interview with Nick from North Star
Post by: nicknorthstar on May 28, 2020, 06:21:05 PM
That's me.

I don't get involved with things like giving interviews, I suppose not being a creative type I don't feel I've much of interest to share.

But I was persuaded to give John Wombat an interview for his blog, firstly because of his Punk Rock credentials and secondly he'd already got some of my chums like Rick and Ackers involved.

You can read it here: https://johnwombat.wordpress.com/2020/05/27/north-star-military-figures-more-a-talk-with-nick-eyre-part-2/?fbclid=IwAR2rRYpUKyg9JKnxjk5DXz7D2A40R5HFWVCbyeJTfI5ohOwI321QLuqxrVQ (https://johnwombat.wordpress.com/2020/05/27/north-star-military-figures-more-a-talk-with-nick-eyre-part-2/?fbclid=IwAR2rRYpUKyg9JKnxjk5DXz7D2A40R5HFWVCbyeJTfI5ohOwI321QLuqxrVQ)

Oh, and I was bribed to do it as well:

Great interviews - really enjoyed them

And thanks for the emphasis on more female minis. My 8 year old wants to start painting with me so I got her some of the frostgrave wizards II set to kick her off

That youngster, Nick, has led a very peripatetic life!  But my take away is this: get him to talk to Osprey about getting a new website.  I recently spent about five minutes there and vowed I would never visit it again - it is terrible to navigate.  I was visiting to put a list together to submit to a local hobby shop to help them through the COVID closures.  But time is too short for that website.  Which is too bad because I have a few score Osprey on my shelves.  Just bought at hobby shops.  I have talked to other local gamers with the same feeling.  It is not my intent to bad mouth Osprey - I hope they see this as an opportunity to improve.  And, yes, I realize it is likely a massive undertaking.  Still.

An interesting read.
Really pleased with Northstar the last couple of years btw, the quality of the castings has improved greatly ( hardly any moldlines at all ), highly original and interesting designs, great sculpts and all that at a very attractive price level.
( just had so say this, as I've been quite critical in the past over the early Frostgrave castings with heavy, in many cases double moldlines ).

As long as it's a discount card I'll take it any day of the week  lol
But don't worry, it never has stopped me from buying your models but it's much more stimulating if the cleaning of the fig can be done in a couple of minutes.
Still got something to complain though - ;) - in the Netherlands it's really hard to get your models, especially those outside the Frostgrave/G.A. range. Not your fault, it's just that our shops aren't
 the most adventures ones, unfortunately...

You said it. Any shop that buys Frostgrave from us has access to the WHOLE range, it's their choice what they take. Maybe post-Brexit a shop will take the 'bull by the horns' and be a place that has everything on display. That'd be something, I'd visit myself, and I'd have supplied him!

why 'post-Brexit'?
Forgive my naivety, and not trying to provoke - just genuinely wondering what's stopping them doing it now, presumably  in terms of 'import' / business costs?

... I guess not the best place to ask the question, maybe.

I don't want any political replies, I'll turn off the comments if that happens, but there's a high chance exporting mail orders to Europe may become more complicated when we've left the the EU. It may be easier all round if there was an importer in the Netherlands with the whole range for Dutch customers.

ah I see, ok, thanks. Yes, that's more what I thought would be the case.
