I've been aiming to finally play RoSD, but the completist in me wanted matching terrain. So here're some bits I've been working on, both as standalone pieces, and detailing mods for my dungeon stackers to build the village in the first scenario.
-
Oooh dungeon stacker mods! I like that, will be keeping a close eye on your ideas :D

Ha. Well here's a coincidence, you may find these familiar

Omg they look just like mine! Awesome :-*
Big fan of the river too looks awesome and so modular!
-
yes, great stuff. Love the tree stands too - would like to do something like that.
love the variety of size (trees) - are you making your own?
-
Very nice builds all around.

The trees were just a christmas village grab bag from the hardware store ( which tells you how long it's taken me to finish them....) this set i think https://www.lemaxcollection.com/villages/general-products/trees/assorted-pine-tree-04768. cost about ten dollars in local currency here.
Essentially for the tree stands. I just followed these two videos. BMC is the bomb for this sort stuff, idiot proof and great results with failrly accessible materials (even in Dubai which is a bit of a death zone for hobby supplies, so the flocking, sculptamould etc all has to be homemade).

Oh and at the risk of stating the obvious putting the trees at different heights on the little hills goes a long way to breaking up the sense that they're all the same height

Nice work all around :-* :-* Don't feel too bad about your trees. I think that I bought mine 3 or 4 years ago and they are still in their sales bags. ::)

Interesting approach to rivers. Are they based on old CD discs perhaps?
-
Looking back at your river and really like the colors ... any chance you might share the recipe?
-
Nearly ready to go!
I spray based the whole thing black. Then did the earth and rocks with a base and dry brush. Didn't worry about over spill into the water. Then I squeezed black craft acrylic straight into the river bed and spread in about. The texture was already there from the toilet paper and PVA . While it was wet I brushed in some Hooker green and some burnt sienna. Not much and didn't worry if it was streaky. Then added some drops of foundry tomb blue light. And worked that in with the same grubby brush, no rinsing along the way. Again this was pretty rough and ready, didn't worry if it spread a bit. Light Dry brush white to catch the tips and unify with the banks. At this point it looks crap. Then a number of thin coats of PVA, drying between. Then a liberal coat of citadel drakenhof nightshade, which is what brings it to life. Followed by more PVA for seal and shine.
That sounds like a faff, but actually it's about 15 minutes of work time for the four. You need to be quick from the black stage anyway, and you dont need to be very careful at any point. The only thing that takes time is waiting for the PVA to dry, but hey, Dubai sun does the business there!

The water effect came out well. Nice job :-*

Yes. If I did it again I might cut longer bases using the same radius curve at the end, but these are easy and I think with abit of judicious scatter and deer moss to break up the edges they look ok.
I'm planning on some roads done the same way but someone's been clearing out the cupboards during lockdown and the old data CDs I thought were there are there no longer
-
Great terrain! I would never have thought of circular terrain pieces for a river or stream but it looks pretty effective in the photos. Nice job on the water effects too!
-
Since people seem interested in stream (I think river is rather too grand for this trickle) is the full 3ft with the footbridge and the ford.
As you can see the in the first pic the segments are essentially straight. Max bend is probably 15 degrees? But the CD basing allows you to lay them out all wiggly, or on a curve and get away with it, even before you scatter fill the gaps.

Yeah, that final picture is brilliant. Not great for a large scale field battle perhaps but amazing for the skirmish games, like RoSD, that are all the rage right now. All of your terrain is great. I love your color palette and attention to detail. One of my goals is to create tables as good as the one you have made.

Thanks so much for sharing! Drakenhof nightshade eh? lots of things I didn't expect!
That nameless village for the first mission is perfect!

Rick I think you're very close to it!

Thanks for the kind words. It's all very straight forward stuff, and following youtube videos. I think the biggest thing in harmonising is actually the effort to keep the flocking the same. Hides a real multitude of sins. That and a low camera angle!

great looking board. :-*
-
Some WIP large tiles for Tor Varden and other inside scenarios (and a cobbled 3x3 for Gangs of Rome when I’ve made one more)
-
Lovely looking terrain. Everything looks top notch.
-
I'm so glad to see someone else using CDs for roads and rivers. Lovely job.
-
roads
Er, well, yes. The roads are definitely coming, honest boss. I've totally not been distracted by dungeons.
-
So this took a load longer than expected...
But I'm getting a Ziggurat out of it, and who doesn't want their own Ziggurat
-
Looks great :-* :-* :-*
-
Now with a touch of paint.
-
Looks great now it's painted :-*

I think you should hang these pieces in an upscale New York art gallery, they'd sell like hotcakes.
Seriously.
This said, it does make cool highly modular terrain.
