Title: Storming the Castle !
Post by: miltiades on July 10, 2020, 09:49:30 AM
Once upon a time there was a beautiful Castle. The evil Lords Sir George the Mean and Sir John of Snowden decided to take it by storm... So they gathered their forces and one day they attacked. Sir George with the Trebuchet and the siege engine would attack from the East and Sir John would attack from the North with the battering ram

As you see the attackers had a formidable force ...

After a few lucky shots, the trebuchet managed to break a part of the wall ... The siege engine  reached the wall  ... it was easier than it seemed.

Fab looking game- one that by the very look of it, I would have loved to have joined in!  :-*  :-* :-*

Is the trebuchet facing in the wrong direction because it is being moved into position?

Sir Din, (in the grey T-shirt) is the defender of the Castle. He looks desperate:"Where are my reinforcements?" he exclaims! Harry (the other guy wearing blue and Game Master, doesn't reply.

REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVED! [it was about time...]
This is Anty and his son Alexander (...yes ... the great!)

dramatic phases of the battle in the open between the reinforcements and the attackers from the North. Clearly the defenders of the Castle need to buy TIME!

sir Din decides to challenge his opponent, sir George, to a personal duel (a special rule of the rule-set we used - Osprey's "lion rampant" ).
According to the rules, the army of the loser in the duel takes an immediate morale check. Din had an advantage here, since he was better qualified ... If his opponent refused  the duel challenge, his army would become demoralized. It was the right decision at the right moment ... the two opponents started to fight !

Helas! The dice favoured the attacker! The duel was a draw... the battle continued in the castle and out in the opeen between Anty and the evil Sir John of Snowden. The attackers used all the means now: ladders, ropes, everything !

... The shot shows clearly the result of the combat  between Anty's  force  and the evil Sir John of Snowden. Sir John managed to beat and completely destroy Anty's rescuing force. The attackers were free to launch a full scale assault on the castle!

So this was the end of the day... A clear victory for the Attacking forces. The castle has fallen ... A few pics of the Dramatis Personae...
Hope you enjoyed !  :)

Looks great.

What rules did you use?

Thank you... we used Daniel Mersey's Lion Rampant, Osprey publications. An easy-to-play and exciting set of rules.

I'll reply here as there appears to be a duplicate thread and this has the most posts.  Looks like a lot of fun.

Did you make any adaptions to Lion Rampant for the siege aspects?  eg how did you handle the battering rams, wall, siege tower, ladders, etc

Yes, Harry made some adaptations to Lion Rampant which worked quite well to help us see a siege with this ruleset.

Dear friend!
You did a great job with the pictures, nice presentation of the game!
As defenders of the castle we were unfortunately wiped out  :-[
I even challenged Sir George (having the attribute of dueling master) but even this did not help us buy time...
It was a nail-biting game, I thank Harry and you for inviting me!
We had an enjoyable day and I was glad to see you all after so much time in confinement!

Could I please ask, is the Mini Art Castle it good for 28mm miniatures or do you think smaller scales would be more appropriate?

If it's good for 28mm then it might well form the basis of some kitbash city walls.

Miltiades put some Ral Partha 25mm for scale

Thanks for the link. The kit looks a bit small for a city wall but some of the sprues might be useful for a fortified mansion.  8)

Thanks miltiades for the siege rules. They look interesting.

A quick question. What are the 3 lines of words or symbols directly under the diagram?

Thanks again.

The Greek letters denote areas:
1st line: Deployment area of the besieged player
2nd line: Deployment area of the 1st besieging player
3d line: Deployment area of the 2nd besieging player
4th line: Deployment area of the reinforcements of the besieged player
