Title: Saxons in the Loire
Post by: bluewillow on July 10, 2020, 09:43:26 PM
Some more additions to my dark age collection. Saxons in the Loire, I plan to do 6 bases of infantry figures and a few bases of lights and archers and perhaps some skirmish figures based for Saga. I will be using a mix of footsore and crusader.

First up is my warlord Eadwacer, who raided up the Loire in the 5th century. The Saxon pirates raided the south and west coast of modern Brittany and Pays de Loire, and Normandy, settling around Bayeux and on the Belle-Īle in the mouth of the Loire. They were particularly active the 5th century raiding Angers and Nantes. A Roman allied contingent from Normandy  also taking part in the Roman defeat of Attila the Hun at Chalons in 451AD. These figures are 28mm from the Footsore miniatures

Yes, I was not even aware they raided the coast of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire until we moved to France. They were raiding at the same time that they were raiding england.

Footsore miniatures are happy, as I am a little gun shy of BTD miniatures at the moment. I have a few projects in front of these so I may get to them in October or so.
