My Saxons and Normans side project is almost ready to hit the game table. Some friends are doing Saga but I'm also able to base tray the individual figs for (LARGE SIZED) DBA which I am more familiar with. Either way, soon to enter the fray!

They look very smart, are the shields free hand or transfers?

Excellent mate :-* :-* :-*
I wonder if this might mean that we might be seeing some Pulp Vikings/Saxons one day? ;D ;) :)

They will be released through Crucible Crush eventually. Once a proper range is in order I think.

Freehand. Its the part I really have fun with.

They look great :-*
Is there any chance of getting a closer look when you can find the time please?

They look fabulous Bob!

Those shields look amazing, Bob! I freehand my own shields, as well. However, I have to admit to creating my banners in Photoshop and printing them out... :D

Sure. Here are some close ups. The first batch of round shields that I used are too thick. I'm making a new bunch of thinner round shields. Of course, these guys are done so they are stuck with the first iteration unfortunately. I don't want to paint 40 odd shields again. When they eventually go on sale they will get the new ones.

Thanks, not only good sculpts but nice crisp vibrant brushwork too :-*

I really don't blame you on that score! :)

And the shield designs look even better close up! Do you think your paint down to keep the layers from building up too much? Because I know my closeups tend to show that. :-[

I try to keep the paint at a creamy consistency, fairly thin. This helps to keep it from looking clumpy. It requires going over the same area more than once though.

These shields are underway now. They still need some work but keeping the paint thin and allowing for drying time means it takes more than one sitting. It helps to work on many at the same time.

Very nice, indeed! :-*

Love 'em :-*

Ace - these are fab!

Gorgeous work. Very inspiring. Like others have said, the shields look really good - but so does everything else.
