My name is Ken and I am a Gamer, it's been 4 days since I last bought any figures.
This project is a warning to you all, this was supposed to be a box of Perrys Miniatures and a couple of Tanks, it got out of hand.
I've done a video of the collection on the Utubes and if you don't do videos there are are loads of photos on the blog post.
It's a downhill slope, don't let it be you.

Soo-bleedin'-poib.
That's right up my alley. I'm planning a (much much smaller) force for 1940, based on the Western Desert Force. Any tips for good source material?
-
wow thats a lot of tanks, is that a 1:1 British regiment
-
That is an amazing, and impressive force!
-
You can play Flames of War in 28mm now!
-
What an impressive collection, l shudder to think of how much it cost you however!
-
Fan-bloody-tastic! :o :-*

There is a campaign book by Robert Avery which has everything you need for the Op Compass era

We are using it for our Desert Adventures, the Yarkshire Gamer Blog has write ups of our first 8 games.

Hi, our games are roughly 1 model to 4 vehicles to there is a full Regt of Stuart's and at least half regts of all the other types.

On it, thanks.
PS. Oh bum, I bought it and then realised I think I've already bought it before! Ah well.

Absolutely stunning collection!
Nice to see the early A9 Cruisers. I've just been reading a book called "Take These Men" (I think?) by a bloke called Cyril Joly. He served in the Desert Rats, initially in A9s.
They only crewed them with four men. The twin MG turrets at the front weren't used, partly lack of manpower, but mostly because they were a total waste of time!
They liked the 2pdr against enemy armour, but desperately wanted a gun that could also fire HE. They thought the speed was good but the tanks did break down if you used it!
It seems life in tanks in the desert was all about spending most of the night repairing, refuelling, and re-stocking ammo...

“ I wouldn't be seen dead playing Flames of War”
Really, I thought that photograph looks just like the usual line up and shoot formation often seen in FoW?

Stunning Army :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

You did a great job on the multi-colored diagonal striped pattern. Your lines are sharp and well defined despite the changes in surfaces. Please tell me how you did this. Thank you.

Many thanks for the kind words on the Caunter Scheme 👍
No secrets I'm afraid I just painted it by hand, I did a tutorial a long time ago, link below, which maybe of some use,

Thank you very much... big help and much appreciated. Whether I can pull it off is not known, but it's nice to start something knowing that it has been done well by someone. I really link know that you did it by hand... and seeing your approach will help a lot. Thanks again.

Um, wow! And I'm not sure "Wow!" really does that force justice....
-
Looking very fine indeed, vehicles lloking extra nie.
Anyone in the know and reading this thread, what time was the khaki drill used in the early war issued from? Got a bunch of free 8th army sprues but thinking they might do for vbcw, or am i better of just keeping them for ww2?
-
Really wonderful work and quite impressive.
(It would be shame to waste such a good force on FoW.)
-
Wow, Ken. You don't do things by halves do you. :o :o
A fantastic collection and great painting especially that Caunter scheme. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Well done Ken and quite right - go large or go home. Talk is cheap but you are definitely walking the walk.
No AA or air-support? There's always a gap in even your collections I suspect.
Inspirational stuff. I have built some early war elements for a Scot Column but even in my 20mm scale I can't touch your Western Desert Steam-Roller.
-
Wow. Useful to see implementation of that light blue/desert camouflage
-
Wow, this post seems to have taken off again after a year sitting dormant, so thanks for all the new kind comments on this old post

There are lots of different colours used in the collection from the original Caunter colours to various shades of light blue grey to represent my interpretation of the affect the sun had on the Silver Grey part of the original scheme.

I have some air support but that isn't shown here, as for AA it just hasn't come up in our games yet, we are mid Op Compass so a pointless mounted Bren was probably your lot :)
The Big Game Podcast is exactly what we do lol

My dog ate my (gifted) FOW book, it was that bad he was sick :D
All the best Ken
