Following this thread: http://forum.backofbeyond.de/viewtopic.php?t=1144, the painting of the tank might fit better in this board (not that the original thread could not have been posted here, but too late).
Last night, I assembled the first of those tanks. Primed white, slapped a few washes on. The tracks need to be darker, and the body a bit lighter, I think.

I like it... scratch built, but looking like a bought model.. 8)
I think I have seen a hobby tool for making 'rivets' in thin plasticard - some kind of wheel on a handle, with spokes that presses into the plastic, creating the rivet-effect on the other side... did you use such a tool, or did you get the pieces made with the rivets?
-
now reminds me to Indiana Jones tank. Amazing! Any ideas about the price?
-
Argonor, for each rivet, a hole was drilled, in which polystyrene rod was inserted, cut and sanded round. I found that when I press the rivets from the other side, the plastic will bend outward, especially if the rivets are located near the edge, which is the case for most of them. The tank you see here is a resin cast, though.
Prof, Vikotnik plans to build an Indy diorama for the Salute '07 painting contest, using one of those tanks. Actually, the Indy tank was one of my two main references  Retail price will be 52.95 Euros. It will be released after Salute, but please let me know if you need one 8)

It's amazing how nice a simple wash paint job looks on this, particularly because the detail is carried by the lovely rivets.
Now to raid the couch cushions and college funds for loose change...
-
Great paint job so far! Looks like it should:
A good, solid hunk of metal. :)
Cannot wait for the pics with the highlighting and weathering coats...
-
oh my God that thing looks fantastic.
Though I don't really need one, I NEED ONE. As soon as you have them in numbers, I'll take one. Seriously Dude, GO CASTING ;-)
Z.
-
I. WANT. ONE. Seriously.
Damn, I HAVE to finish that steam engine so I get bonus ranks on the list!
-
but please let me know if you need one 8)
yes, i need one, please count me in :)
-
Mine is already being cast. (I think)
-
Johan, yours is already done, boxed and properly labeled. Everyone else who is interested, please PM me, and we'll work out the details
Anyway, here are the pictures from last night's work:

I like the overall result, though something is lacking. What could it be?

:o :o :o
AMAZING!

I think the only thing missing is some mud on the tracks and sides. But I have to concur with the Professor. :o :o :o :o
-
Nothing is lacking.
The tank is painted well, leaving the inherent beauty of the chassis visible and obvious to the buyer. The paint is not busy. It isn't overdone. It invites the viewer to get one and paint it to his specification.
It's a thing of beauty. :o
-
Lovely! Can you tell us what colours you used and your technique?
Yes, and although I don't need one, I WANT ONE!!
Don't tell my wife the price!!
-
Oh god, it´s sooo beautiful *breaks down and starts sobbing*...
Maybe one could add wire handles to the various hatches? I´ll do once I get one!
-
As I have already mentioned this morning, the brown really is perfect.
I my opinion, the whole paint job would benefit greatly from more extreme weathering, a few dents and scratches here and there and flaked-off paint on the edges.
Pete is right, though. For presentation through a medium like Your website, the paintjob is exactly what was needed.
That was just the painter in me writing...
-
Thanks, all :)
Dominic, I'm not sure about the process. Basically, it is a wash of "English Uniform" (Vallejo Model Color), done over with a variety of other washes, ranging from off-white to to various browns to orange for rust. On patches that were too irregular, I stippled on thinned paint and feathered it to blend it in. Rivets and edges were drybrushed with Model Color "Buff", and that's about it.
Chris, wire handles are a cool idea, but I needed one completely unmodified model for pictures. On the next one I'll go crazy with stowage, add-ons and battle damage :D
I think I will simply rework some parts tonight, and see if it improves. By the way, the machine guns and the turret hatch are done, I am off to mold those now. Pictures of those this weekend.

Maybe some markings (unit number... that kind of stuff..)?
-
Yup, markings made a difference. And more rust and scratches, and the last missing parts helped as well.
Here are the pictures of the finished model:

It is up for preorder now, by the way. But as I've said, I'd be willing to part with a few models prior to the "official" release at Salute 8)
-
It's beautiful! :o
If only the US dollar wasn't so low against the Euro.
-
Jens - thanks for the quick service! My tank arrived last Friday!
Can you tell me - how much water did you use to dilute the Vallejo English Uniform for the first wash?
-
Dominic, I used a very thin consistency, allowing the white primer to shine through. Maybe 1 part paint, 1 part acrylic floor finish, 1 part water, but more likely only 0.5 parts paint. Can't really say, I usually just blob some paint on my palette, make a pond of floor finish and water next to it, and add the paint until I have the consistency I want. It helps tremendously to wet the whole tank before applying the wash, you get very few drying stains this way. It is a bit messy, though, be sure to cover your work area with tissue or old newspapers.
-
Jens - what is acrylic floor finish in German? I suppose I can get this in any DM, Schlecker or Rossman?
-
I use "W5 Bodenglanz & Parkettpflege" from Lidl. "Erdal Glänzer" is another brand, but I don't know where to get it. Something similar should be available most anywhere, from department stores to supermarkets to these Rossman-style chain stores.
-
Have a look at this link and Your life will never be the same again - at least mini-wise.
It is an INTERNATIONAL article about the 100000000s of uses of floor finishes, including lists from where to get it.
Unbelievable.
You should really give this stuff a try, it rocks!
