Soooo...after a extended lay off I am back to the homebrew solo apocalypse rules I had written during lockdown.
Had to take a little mental break from it, put it down to writing the rules in about four weeks of full immersion then the play testing and rewrites etc. Burned all the mental fuel so put it away for a while to back at it with fresh eyes.
Thought I would start a fresh thread and make a few new crew members to celebrate.
Four new operatives made from anvil industry PMC bits (mostly)
Pathfinder (leader) is the dude with the moustache and the alien tech (tau) rifle plus three good men to back him up.
Probably stat it as an assault rifle for now as alien tech will need some new rules writing.
Some new sector nasties in the shape of mantic Nightstalkers.
Don't know what the guy with the grenade has seen but it's obviously safe to say it needs fragging. :)
Lots more to come

The PMCs and critters look cool.
-
Great looking set of figures.
-
Love the feel on these! Curious how you did the shade of stubble on grenade guy's head.

Hey Proclus it's quite simple paint the bald head the same as the rest of the flesh when it's finished mix a dab of grey paint into your midtone colour and paint the shape of where the hair or beard would be.
It's just a grey flesh tone really not too dark or it will look like he's painted it on to hide his hair loss :)
Hope this helps
Cheers

Quick update managed to get a bit more done whilst listening to the snooker.
Another team ready for duty in Sector 12 (sometimes the quarter master can even provide a crew with matching uniforms)
Quick repaint of some critters seen elsewhere wasn't going for the blue shells so went for something a bit more natural.
And finally a little beastie to get the rookies warmed up with :)

Nice is probably not the right description ^__^.

Update and play test time
The return of the Muleskinners
After being forced to return to base due lack of rations Whistler promptly deserted the group for pastures new (one of the new rules) to fill the hole a fresh Greenwing was assigned by command, Harris complete with knife and shotgun.
So re-supplied and refreshed the crew headed back out into Sector 12 to find their fortunes or their fates.
Eased (apparently) myself back into things with a basic search mission perform one search in each table quadrant and get out.
Simple enough he says only mutants forming the opposing team what could go wrong? I mean it's only eight turns right? (Also a new rule)
Armed with the new luxurious home printed edition of the rules we ventured forth.
Crept forward for two turns managed the first of the four searches and picking up a salvage marker on the way then Hitch triggered a random spawning late in turn two whilst revealing the objective markers from his raised vantage point.
Bugger = large mutant.
Turn three it started its rampage.
Hitch secured a second salvage marker with a death defying leap between the ruins, whilst the monster downed new guy Harris with a well aimed boulder. Barnes managed the second search and was then swamped in mutants. He warmed up his fowling piece and blasted a few into the next life and set about the rest with his trusty combat knife.
Turn 4 sees Richards turning back to help out the new guy, three actions (cool) first one is a jam (not cool) and the second and third are spent clearing it sealed Harris's fate. Raising himself from the dust the plucky rookie scores a hit on the beast before succumbing .
With two actions in hand the creature turns and closes with Richards reducing her to 1 hit with a flurry of blows. Its last action turns out to be it's undoing attacking again it misses completely whilst the injured Richards slices it to quivering chunks with a massive ten hits!
Heroics aside turn 5 is not looking good and the team try to regroup in the centre of the table Barnes is forced to leave two salvage markers to support Richards whilst the third search generates six more mutants.
Turn 6 and Barnes is blasting a way to freedom with his shotgun as the limping Richards takes out an ambushing mutant but then fails her roll for the last search.
She finally manages the last search in turn 7 but the mutants are closing in and the team begin a fighting retreat with rapidly multiplying foes and jamming weapons they practically fall off the board mid turn 8 barely escaping with their lives and a mere two salvage markers to show for their troubles.
Crikey that was closer than expected.
Large mutants are nobodies friends eating rookies feet first. We managed to save him from his 'i think it's busted' after action roll with the team's last medkit.
Experience points however made up for a lack of loot. Everyone but the boss got a buff even bumped Richards up to Hardnose, fair reward for her efforts, Harris got the flak jacket and Hitch bend a new skill so hopefully we'll be a bit tougher next time and grab a bit more shiny.
Good fun and nice to be back at it.

Very nice work.

I might give those rules a once over

Great stuff! I particularly like the orange and white Tau rifle. I think I will need to pinch that idea.

Pinch away old boy :)

Quick progress update
New wild encounters to run into whilst strolling through SECTOR 12
Tribal simians
Carnivorous ape (don't just stand there man...frag it!!)
And the first of the raptor type dinosaur predators that will form hunting packs to surprise the unwary. I know gallamimus but can't justify buying real raptors when I've got these clogging up my painting pile! I'm sure they could still give you a nasty nip :)

Lovin’em!

Cheers guys
With the apes and dinos and scraping a few discordant pieces together from other 'sleeping' projects I have now everything I need for the new random encounter tables
Eh viola

Just pop this in posted elsewhere but might as well collate here just in case anyone missed

After another few days first drafting and in the interests of the new beginnings engendered by this thread I thought I might create a new crew.
So we rotated the Muleskinners back to their home sector and rolled the dice on the crew make up charts.
Two rifles, two smgs, grenades, knives and a med kit later and...hang on no miniatures?
Boy wonder, to the bits box!
Wanted a western trail coat feel to show the flak armour and not having any WYSIWYG rules in Sector 12 it gives quite a free reign to the imagination.
Aha he says, what about the free German sprue from warlord games that the nice fellows at wargames illustrated gave away a while back?
Mmmmm?
Add a dash of the statuesque and we are in the business. Four new Pathfinders equipped in a retro style and ready for duty. Accordingly a little back story would be needed to explain their gear.
The Blackhearts hail from Sector 3 whose entry point into Sector 12 coincided with the partial ruined remains of what appeared to be a ww2 supply dump.
Naturally our plucky quartet was kitted out from its contents.
Nb: Yeah I know technically an assault rifle not a smg but that there is the beauty of no WYSIWYG besides it's a solo game so there's only the AI to complain and no one listens to him.
By the way does anyone out there know if the German army used any kind of combat shotgun? Crossed my mind when I was converting them but don't recall seeing any or any representations of them?
Anywho here they are should be able to get them bloodied during the next few days, new random scenario/campaign generator and all.
More to come
Cheers all

Excellent work, all around.
The Tribal Simians are my favorite. They make me think of Max Brooks' new novel, Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre. The premise of the novel is a bit preposterous (although no less preposterous than zombies), but I found the book to be quite good.
-
When did ever let preposterous get in the way of a good time? :)

As I recall, the Germans lodged a formal protest over the use of shotguns by American forces in WWI. I don't know that they ever adopted them in WWII.
