The latest issue of Miniature Wargames (issue 449 - September 2020) features an article written by me showing how I built a 28mm scale roman Mile Fort. The three page article shows how I built the model from blue foam and next month, in part two, I will show how I painted and finished the model.

Lovely work

very smart - going to need one of these :D

Great stuff! It always thrills me to see such excellent stonework on a scratchbuilt model. It's amazing what you can do with foam, and the carved stonework and random impressions from a crumpled ball of styrofoam just does a wonderful job. And doubtless far more quickly and cleanly than that other method - gluing individual bricks onto a featureless base.

Thank you.

Wonderful model!

Nice work! So, how did you use an IKEA coffee table in this build...?

The base that the fort/castle is mounted onto is an Ikea table 550mm x 550mm - an Ikea Lack table - see this link;

Miniature Wargames issue 450 from October 2020 has part two of my tutorial/article showing how I finished and painted the scratch-built Roman Mile Fort in 28mm scale.

Beautiful!

Oooh, that's a bit good!

Brilliant work!

A lovely rendering of a classic defensive work. The Airfix kit is what got me first interested in wargaming but the thin plastic shell never delivered on the chunky stone vibe. This really fits the bill. Well done!

Thank you for all the comments and I'm glad that you like the model.
