Hi Guys,
With some upcoming releases of Late War French I need to populate my own French army with these additions. Since Leroy painted this army many years ago and now that I can paint to a nice standard I want to crack this! I've my ideas, but I thought it would be nice to get the forum members involved.
Can folks who have been painting their Late War French provide some suitable painting suggestions? I'd like to use Vellejo an I believe Blue Grey is the go.
Equipment painting suggestions would be nice too.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Helen
Take a look over on Robs Scarab Miniatures Forum there's painting guides that folks have put up :D

Okay, I checked out the web-site and then joined as a member.
The painting guide was useful, but since I work with Vallejo colours I sat down today and painted up a Battle Honours French Officer as late war.
Hopefully, tomorrow I'll provide a photo. I'm, however, very pleased with the overall result.
Thanks again Keith for pointing me towards the Scarab Miniatures Forum.

Hi Dodge,
Firstly, the boots are painted German Camo Black/Brown. Then I apply Dark Fleshtone followed by a mix of Beasty Brown and Parasite Brown. If I wish to go another shade I'd then apply the same mix for the latter with Scrofulous Brown.
All Vallejo!
Thanks again for your kind words,
Helen

when I attempted it before I used black brown and red leather but it came out a bit too orangy using cavalry brown was a bit better but not as good as yours
I will give it a go ;)

Nice work Helen.
The color of the uniform look quite right to me. I would suggest that you use a little more yellowish shade for the equipment of the regular soldiers (rank and file) as I read somewhere that the new troops arriving to the front, with the natural leather equipment, were called les bretelles jaunes by the early days veterans.
Once again really nice work and I love the details like the German helmet at the officer’s foot.
PS. The first men to receive the Horizon blue uniform were also called les bleuets (blueberry).

I'll keep your comments on the leather equipment in mind when I look at expanding the French later this year. I don't have much to fill, but nevertheless, it's important for me to get it right the first time. With Brigade expanding the French range and some nice releases from Scarab Miniatures, collectors/gamers have a nice choice.
My issue with all the uniform references I've (an I'm awaiting the new Officers and Soldiers 1918 from H&C [France]) is the kepi detail for officers in particular and the pattern on top of the kepi!
I know there is a little more detail I can give this officers kepi, but until I see some better references I'm not going further.
