I plan on doing a small skirmish based on the Seven Samurai, here’s my test figure to see how it may all look in greyscale. I’m hoping to do a 3x3 gaming area all painted in greyscale.

WOW! That looks amazing Mick! :o
Who makes this figure? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Wow, really cool concept and great execution too
-
Such an original & unique idea !

Great result! Grey scale is something I have tried a few times but struggled with. Any tips (in addition to "keep practicing") or tutorial?
-
Very nicely done. Not seen this tried on Samurai before, which feels like an even harder subject matter to attempt this on.
I suppose when doing this you need to think like black and white photography, which is all about creating contrasts. Whereas greyscale when used on computer images often ends up with lots of mid tones

LAF member "Evilcartoonist" did a 1930's pulp gangster project done in B&W tones. It was done VERY well.

Ah ok. Thanks! :D

Thanks all :) I used a white undercoat then went from dark to light with each shade of grey using washes. The only colours I used were black, white and black grey for the cloak.

Lovely work :)

Cool idea and fantastic work :o

I am always left in awe when I see someone do the B&W paint scheme. Stunning.

Not yet, but I’ve sourced some nice greyscale teddy bear fur...

Beautiful work.
I do recall a demo. game at a show, that was based on the final scene
of John Ford's film Stagecoach.
Everything was done in greyscale,
the wheels on the (Timpo/Britains ?) stagecoach revolved BACKWARDS,
just like on the film.
They also had a selection of cassette tapes (that dates it) each had a
different length of silence, followed by a bugle call (to show the arrival
of the US Cav. & end of that game.)

Great concept and nice start on the painting!
-
That's really good, love the concept

Kurosawa all the way :-*

More miniatures should be done in greyscale, particularly samurai, Old West and Pulp themes.
