Title: (Kickstarter) Icy Wilds from Monster Fight Club
Post by: Grumpy Gnome on September 30, 2020, 07:43:34 AM
With so many kickstarters on the go it is easy for something to pass “under the radar”, so I thought I would mention this here. If there is a better place to post such things, please let me know.

Has anyone here backed their previous project? What do you think about there products and customer service?

I'm also interested, but the table set up they show is done with 25 sets. That would be something like $800. I would maybe pick up a small pledge for some tabletop accents but couldn't see using the stuff for a full table.

Yeah, it seems on the expensive side and the freebie stretch goals are not tempting in the same way the Dungeons and Lasers 2 Kickstarter were. Instead they seem to follow more of the Dwarven Forge stretchgoal freebies where you only get certain ones depending on which path you follow. Poor marketing in my opinion, it makes the consumer feel like they are missing out with hop scotch stretchgoals rather than being invested in each step.

{reads title}...very excited

{clicks links...looks at price} WTF 😳

It’s a good idea...taps into the Frostgrave/CMON ASOIAF market...but the price ?!?!

$40 for a couple of (big) trees...? Or £20 for 25 pine trees from a model railway shop (delivered the same week) ...

...simply no contest  :?

Yeah, spendy but they are big trees. The freebies tipped the balance for me and we made a basic pledge for the pine trees. I kind of liked the translucent glaciers but my wife did not and we are unlikely to ever have a winter biome gaming table.

They're decent looking and modular...but I see no "reason" to buy plastic sculpted trees when so many other options exist.

Durability and aesthetics were my reason. I wanted something that will go well with the Dwarven Forge trees we will be getting from their Wildlands Kickstarter, but a lower cost and offering some more diversity. It was one of the earlier Kickstarter product reviews that convinced me on the flexible property of the MFC material  that helped tip the balance. But to each, their own.

I have picked up some MS/MFC sets for the same reason of convenience and durability (I also have some Tablescape trees for the same reason). I prefer pre-painted trees that won't shed flock etc.
