Title: Looking for 11th-13th century sailors (preferably unarmed)
Post by: PhilB on September 30, 2020, 01:56:40 PM
I'm working on a 12th-century medieval nef model (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=125356.msg1607639#msg1607639) and am having trouble locating any figures suitable for sailors. The closest I've got are Foundry's range of pirates, but they are all armed to the teeth and look far more 17th-18th century. Ideally I'd like unarmed civilian-type figures, with a Viking or Saxon or Norman look to them. Any ideas?

Gripping Beast have a few sailor-y looking sets, though they're a bit more Norse looking so probably a bit early for the 13th century! If that helps!

I've used the Eureka miniatures Portuguese sailors before, but they're closer to 15th-16th century (and also armed!)

I saw one set of those Gripping Beast Norse traders - An excellent start. I'll have to pick some up.

For the Portos, do you mean these (https://eurekaminusa.com/products/100por11)?

They look good too, and a couple of them (especially the next to last guy on the right) look like they could be modified slightly to look good holding the side rudder tiller or some line to the sail.

Thanks a mil, I was hoping someone would suggest something useful.
