Well my first Victrix Dark Ages figure, and having bought a sprue each of Saxon and Viking warriors for a fiver each I am impressed with their quality and value.

Cap'n they are great figure aren't they, and a joy to paint. The Normans and the archers both look to be of the same high standard.

Nice work 8)
Are you planning on mixing and matching the Norse and Saxon bits on some of the models?

Most likely as there appears to be very little difference between either set other than the Vikings have more hair. The plan is a create a small Saxon shield wall, and then have individual character Vikings.

Historically speaking, depending on the century in hand, there would have been little difference between them at all in terms of armies. I think I've mentioned it before but I remember having a phone conversation with a certain miniature manufacturer famous for their 'Dark Ages' offerings where we cam to the consensus that is it not beyond the realm of possibility that King Harald Hardrada's army in the invasion of England 1066 might well have used kite shields. Why not? If your life might mean keeping up with military technology?

an update on the Saxons, but these are going to take a backseat to the amazing Claymore Castings that I have just got ahold of. I was not aware of this range of figures until last week but they are some of the best 28mm figures I have come across - but first the second Saxon

... and the Claymore Castings figures - to start with I have got hold of 12 pavisers plus 4 men at arms, who will be Genoese mercenaries, and which in time I hope to add some crossbows to.
These figures are stunning, and a delight to paint

The best Late Medieval miniatures out there IMHO.

Very nice painting on both those.
Great work on the scarred Saxon shields.

I might need to get one of the saxon sets, they look a lot like the Reaper Anhurians that I've been working on a fantasy force with, and they look like they'd work decently for creating some warmachine crew members among other things...and more parts.
-
The second Paviser is now complete. I'll weather these guys a little so they match the war weary shields when I base them.

Obviously a lot of love and tender care has been put into these miniatures.
They look great and I am looking forward to see them based.

Cheers all for the very kind words. I have to say these are exceptionally sculpted and cast figures and that makes painting them an absolute delight. At £7 for 4

I've not yet got ahold of any Front Rank figures and so can't compare. Too many figures - not enough time and all that. However these Claymore Casting figures are without doubt some of the best quality 28mm I have come across.
