Truly superb! :o :-*
It's funny the subject of medieval Burgundians has never been very popular in France... :? lol

...I blame some traditional French historians, who for long did not want to advertise it (for political reasons) ...and also some old movies where Charles the Bold always was the bad guy (although Louis XI was not really depicted as a good guy, they couldn't do that, but at least he was the king)... lol lol

"Very pretty...but can they fight?" (to quote Donald Sutherland in The Dirty Dozen).

yeah i am german :P
i watched on youtube a documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d_V1UnvPBE in which was explained that berne pushed charles the bold and the eidgenossen with their agressive behavior.. never knew that.
but you are right it is really a intresting time, if all the lietrature of it wouldn be so expensive...

i am working on a 2nd batch with infantry artillery and a big cavaraly wing in which many parts found inspiration of your work aswell

Impressive! :-*
-
Fantastic stuff! Love the way they are ranked together. And great variation. Well worth the effort they must have taken.
-
Wonderful looking army, i love large units, just gives a much better effect
Brian

The benefit of 20x20mm magnetized bases is that you can choose always ur unit size and movement trays.
i havent played any games yet but would like to try days of knights which i heard is a fast play style game with typical medieval special rules like nobility...
but its originally designed to go along with 15mm minis...
heres a link to a review and a game.

sounds great but maybe someone knows a even better system?

hell yeah it was. i think it took about 500 hrs about...
however here are some work in progess minis. but will take a while.

Wow, that’s amazing work! None of my 28mm forces has anywhere near that many figures, and i’ve been chipping away at them for decades...
Regarding rules, another possibility might be Never Mind the Billhooks, which was recently released as a free pamphlet in Wargames Illustrated magazine. It is aimed at Games set in the War of the Roses, but it should be able to represent Charles the Bold’s adventures on the continent. Several people have posted here about the rules and seem to have had fun with them. Heck, you probably already have enough figures painted to provide both sides of a Burgundian secession dispute to test drive the rules!
-
Nice army, your mix of quantity/quality is really brilliant! I second your choicce to base your minis on single magnetized bases. It's a good way to transport/storage them and it makex them usable for various base size/ruleset.
-
Incredible work! That stack of cavalry definitely looks intimidating to finish!

Agreed, the magnetic bases idea is a good move!

Haha Burgundian secession dispute :D
Thats a Great idea ;)
never mind the billhook defenatly looks intresting.
i saw the interview from wargames illustrated on YT. love their event card system.
Maybe one day he ll put out a ruleset for mass battles. or did he already? he said he wrote several rulesystemsif i am not mistaken

I just found these great information about liveries for wotr:
https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?action=post;topic=127757.0;last_msg=1615189
(i dont post there because its origanally about wotr)
Does someone have maybe more informations about burgundian and swiss captains, commanders and noble men in the time of the burgundian wars and their liveries and flags?
I bought some month ago the little book (because it was recommended in this forum):
The Burgundian Army of Charles the Bold: The Ordonnance Companies and their Captains
The book is amazing and its intresting to read about the different captains and the companies. the amount of flags, which are shown in it, is amazing.
Just wondering if there is a book like this about the swiss confederacy and more in the internet to read and see about for burgundian and swiss personalities.
Also wanted to ask
1. if the captains and the comapny banner/flag bearers normally operated mounted or on foot?
2. Did the swiss personalities were on foot (fought along the pikemen) or mounted?
3. did the swiss had any Mounted men at arms? or did only german/loraine allies provided Mounted men at arms?
4. in these pictures from a mod they shod late 15th cen. spearmen with pavises. Did these sombination existed or is this fiction?

At the time of writing, many a year back now, the Lance and Longbow Society had planned a sister volume for The Burgundian Army of Charles the Bold: The Ordonnance Companies and their Captains but sadly it never materialised.
-
Quite fond of Burgundy myself whether it hails from the Cote de Beaune or the Cote de Nuits ;D
that's some impressive work - wished I lived close to you so I could game with those figs!
-
Lovely looking force, very nice work.
-
Hi Guys,
finished some time ago the rest of my minis but never finished the basing. today i finally got time.
this time i based them a bit different. im going to mix them with the first batch for variety.
only the banners and some freehands are missing...
-
damn the size restictions of the pictures are a pain....
-
some more... the picture quality is really bad... sorry for the bad lighting...
-
GulKelan, with the exception of Charles the Bold Burgundian history is little known in the UK. I hopefully have the Bart Van Loo book arriving as a Christmas present which will certainly raise my knowledge of a fascinating period of Northern European history. I may even be inspired to build an army!
Regards
-
Lovely looking army, I have a list of Burgundian Nobles, I will dig it out over the next week or so.
cheers
Matt

Me too - and the same response!!! Awesome collection (I have some interest in the early Henry VIII period in England, c.1513, where the forces would have looked fairly similar, except for perhaps more firearms).

just watched this video and wanted to share.
