PART ONE: SPACE SHARKS
Having been procrastinating about starting a Space Marine Chapter for ages and finally got it down to two options, Mentor Legion or Carcharadons, I have opted for the Space Sharks for two reasons.
Firstly, my first Space Marines, way back in '87 when they first came out, were grey (the Dogs of War) and I fancied resurrecting that scheme to some degree as even then I could never understand why someone would dress in a bright suit of armour to run around in and make it easier to be shot at!
Secondly, a Facebook group that I am in, The Monthly White Dwarf Painting Challenge (where you pick one figure featured in the designated Issue of the month to paint) had a Space Marine that had been sitting in my pile for ages which had been painted in Space Sharks desert camo, so I took that as a 'Sign!'.
So, here they are: My first five (well, I was not going to just paint one, was I?) in various mismatched armour patterns appropriate to the Carcharadon background....
This lot are all old school metals that I had back in the day (in fact, the fella with the big hair is the first Space Marine I ever painted so he had to go in the first batch) with the fella in the centre being the one that featured in the White Dwarf that was the November 'Challenge' issue.
The various patterns on their armour is my take on the 'tribal etchings' described in the novels.
I also got a little carried away and attempted a bit of freehand Chapter insignia on a couple of the pads, one bearing the Carcharadons Chapter symbol and another with a set of skeletal shark jaws. Not great but they will do.
The rest will have to wait for heraldry until I get my hands on some transfers as I do not think I will be attempting mure more freehand on those tiny shoulder pads!
.
Future additions will include more old school figures from the pile, along with a few of the more recent plastic kits featuring Mk4 and 5 armour patterns amongst others. The rather ramshackle appearance of the Carcharadons also allows me to mix and match and convert to my hearts content, which suits me just fine.

Should’ve gone for Mentor Legion though ;D

The Old Space Marines look SPLENDID in their new style paint jobs. VERY WELL DONE!

Phooey, Space Sharks all the way!
Nice work mate :-* Must do some more of mine.
-
Excellent stuff mate! Despite all these newfangled miniatures I still like the old stuff. Rogue Trader Rules!

Thanks, chaps.
:)
Should’ve gone for Mentor Legion though ;D
lol
It was close, I tell ya, but I figured that I could always add a few Mentor Legion later as an attachment.
Having just read Spear of the Emperor, which features a Mentor Legion character and his helots, I almost caved.
Worth a read too if you fancy a bit of Mentor fluff.

lol
Indeed.
I look forward to seeing more yours.

With you all the way!
There will be no Primark maureens in this force, I tell ya!
:D

Speaking of the freehand, here is a shot of the chaps in the jungle along with a close up of the shark jaws and the startled salmon on their pads.

As I said before, not great, but those shoulder pads are tiny and curved, so not too easy.....

Some cool old Rogue Trader goodness. Before Space Marines sold out and went al Primaris-sy.

Some cool old Rogue Trader goodness. Before Space Marines sold out and went al Primaris-sy.
Exactly!
:D
Anyway, here are a few more chaps from the pipeline.
This time they are 'rescue jobs': Marines that I picked up in a damaged lot that I felt were perfectly salvageable, especially given the nature of this project. I have a few more somewhere but cannot find them at the moment....
The addition of a few parts from the bits box and a small amount of green stuff and they should fit right in....
I know one of them is not exactly 'old skool' but he will be allowed as I quite like the figure.
(And I will probably add a few more figures that are more recent, but there will be no Primark Marines at all!)
-
Given the rather haphazard mix of armour and weapon types used by the Carcharadons/Space Sharks in the published fluff*, which was one of the reasons that helped me decide on choosing them as a project, I have been picking up damaged Rogue Trader era miniatures with the intent of converting them with different equipment to help reflect this.
I finally made a start on some of them, using a mix of old and new plastics and green stuff to give them a new lease of life.
Some of you may recognise the original donor figures from various releases from the early years of 40K.
Here are the first batch...
The first group above featured three of the same figure, which I decided to convert slightly to add some variation.
This mainly consists of adding the odd armour plate and rivet here and there, so nothing too major.
The other two figures are a Chaplain that was missing his head and arm and a Medic that had had his hand cut/snapped off.
The Chaplain received a new head that looked appropriate and an early RTB01 arm, along with a newer plastic Boltgun of a different design. This conversion also allowed for a bit more movement from the original flatter pose. A small amount of green stuff was used to cover the blood drop on his chest plate.
.
The Medic had the remainder of his left arm removed at the elbow. Another early plastic arm and newer plasma pistol were then added and the disfigured Medic insignia on his shoulder pad was smoothed over with green stuff to make a new assault Marine.
The second picture shows those that received a little more conversion than most of the first.
The fella on the left was converted from the same donor figure as the three identical figures in the first picture. His chainsword had been snapped of at some point so needed a fair bit of reworking to rescue.
He had his original hands and head removed, which resulted in most of the chest area being cut away too.
This meant the area had to be reworked with green stuff and a new chestplate being sculpted (which cannot be seen from this angle...).
He then had plastic arms added and his damaged shoulder pads repaired before receiving a new head.
The second figure was much more straightforward as he only needed a new head, so he got a earlier 'MK' of helmet from one of the new plastic sets.
The middle figure began life as a 'Christmas Marine, who was missing his head, one arm and his beer tankard!
These were again replaced with newer plastic versions and his shoulder pad repaired.
The forth figure had no arms, so was given new ones, again from the new plastic options.
The final figure was again the victim of 'snapped chainsword syndrome', so he also had his hands cut away to be replaced by plastics, this time a flamer. This was relatively easy as the new pose and weapons cover the damaged areas really well. so there was no need for major green stuff work on him. Bonus!
I rather like this change as the pose looks good for a chap spitting fire, as I imagine most would lean away from the business end of a flamethrower.
Anyway, that little lot should keep me busy for a while while I search out some more old Marines in need of some TLC.
;)

Awesome! I read the Space Sharks novels last year. Really cool. Nice work!
-
Nice job on those minis 👍
-
Awesome! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
I always loved the old Space Sharks, and these guys are just that, but with a cooler name 8)
And good thing you picked them over the Mentor Legion, as I have been contemplating them for my recently recovered box of RTB01 marines. the box has seen better days, but the contents are still as new (on the sprue).
I've held on to that box for ages, but never could decide on a chapter for them. I could recreate my old (enamel) black Dark Angels, or go the poster boy route with either Blood Angels or Ultramarines, or do something a bit more out there, like Lamenters, Mantis Warriors or Mentor Legion.
But when I casually opened my copy of the old Compendium not too long ago, Chapter Master Nisk Ran-Thawll looked at me from his two page spread while suiting up, and I knew then and there that I should go ahead with the 888th chapter...
Anyway; will you be adding to this force to make it a full fledged 40K/RT army, or will it be more of a skirmish unit? Any vehicle plans?
-
Great rescue jobs on the marines. My favourite is the fourth marine in the second pic. Not only do I love the original sculpt with his bionic head and rebreather, but the added bolter arms look perfect for the pose.
-
Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
:)
Awesome! I read the Space Sharks novels last year. Really cool. Nice work!
I really enjoyed them and the story behind them appealed, as did the colour scheme, and they really helped sway my choice.
Daeothar: I will be doing a Mentor Legion squad (at least( as I am currently 'in negotiations; regarding some sets of 'experimental' Terminator Armour that fit the bill perfectly.
Anyway; will you be adding to this force to make it a full fledged 40K/RT army, or will it be more of a skirmish unit? Any vehicle plans?
No 'plan' with this project, just adding to them as and when I get figures that fit. There are already nearly 30 in the queue already...
As for vehicles: I am probably going to go down the 'proper RT' route and make some scratchbuilt/converted vehicles from model kits and toys...unless an old Land Raider magically appears in my hands somehow!

He is a close second to flamer-boy, in my opinion, as he has a gret noggin. Flamer-boy just edges it for me as I thought he would be a pig to convert but, once the arms were cut away, his pose just felt right for the weapon.

Cracking stuff Paul on our fave Space Marines. As you maybe guess I haven’t got much further with mine...
You’ll have to get a hold of the Badab War Forge World books, very good background fluff for the Space Sharks, and others :)

I've just stumbled across this, fantastic project.
I like the conversions a lot, especially the flamer.
I'm looking forward to seeing some paint on them.

Cheers, mate.
I have read all the fluff I could find online and the novels provide great background too.
They certainly have an interesting backstory, which is all part of the allure, I guess.

Thank you, Sir!
The flamer is my favourite too.
Paint is getting slapped on a few of these at the moment, as well as a couple of unmodified Marines.
I should finish the next batch this weekend, fingers crossed.
:)

Well, I finally got the chance to get some more Carkies painted.
Four more chaps done, which now completes the first squad...
The first three are from those recently 'rescued' and I am happy with how they have turned out.
The fourth (heavy bolter) was one that I had already painted in a random colour scheme as a Merc was simply overpainted in Carky colours. I think I got away with it....
This brings the first squad to completion.....
You may also notice that I have added the Carcharadon transfers to them all too.
These look OK when laid on top of the grey armour but seem a little stark on the black pads. I may go back and dull them down a little later, but will wait until I have completed a few more before doing this.
Next up is the first character, a Chaplain.....
-
Tidy 8)
-
Awesome! I really like the subdued grey look (I'm used to bright yellow or orange powerarmour myself :D) and the minis and conversions are excellent (no trace of that overpaint btw ;) ).
I can see what you mean by the white logo being too stark, but nothing a good wash or shading couldn't fix.
You really have me all stoked to pick up some RT project myself!
-
Thanks, chaps.

I finished off the 'white' bits on the Chaplain, the first character for the force.

Very nice work! Always a pleasure to see these old models brought back to life with nice paintjobs and clever repairs. :)
As for vehicles: I am probably going to go down the 'proper RT' route and make some scratchbuilt/converted vehicles from model kits and toys...unless an old Land Raider magically appears in my hands somehow!
You could always have a go at making your own Rhinos and Landraider out of plasticard...? They're not very complicated shapes (especially if you make them "closed" and use a shaped piece of insulation as a core to clad in plasticard for the main hull), and lots of people make garage kits of tracks, hatches, and other details that fit the style perfectly.

A fella from a gaming club that I used to be a member of years ago did something similar for Rhinos and I was pretty impressed.
I plan to use a few toys that I have in hand as the basis for vehicles in a 'proper Rogue Trader' style but may well have a crack at making a Land Raider this way as I really would like a classic one but they cost an arm and a leg now.
You have certainly got me thinking.
:D

Nicely done mate 8)

I'd guess that Land Raiders are the easiest of the old RT vehicles to scratch-build as they have almost no sloped pieces aside from the hull. This avoids any awkward joints or such. The tracks on the original kits are complete bastards to remove mouldlines from too (so much work..! :( ), so in scratch-building your own you can probably still save yourself loads of work overall anyway! lol
For the Rhinos, if you're thinking of using third-party kits anyway, I did have another idea... Use the hull of a suitable cheap kit (American M113 APC or British FV432 APC would be your best bets IMO), and then scratch build just the sides (which, again, are flat-sided and pretty easy to build). I would say that a 1:48 or 1:54 scale would be most useful to you, although 1:72 are cheaper (bit small though).
...You might also be interested to know that apparently the original Rhino was inspired by the FV432. ;)
Finally, if you fancy having a go at a Predator, I'd suggest some Soviet T54/55 kits, again in 1:48 scale. You probably just want the turret from this, but the tracks could be useful parts for your Land Raider.
-
Thanks for the suggestions.
:)
For a Rhino I already have one of these...
...and one of these to form the basis of a Predator....
...to work with, along with an old classic Rhino that has seen better days, which may get repaired or just chopped up and parts used on the above.
;)

That's an old GI Joe/ Action Force AFV! I had one of those that I converted into a grav tank based on a White Dwarf article. Very cool.

Cheers, mate.
I have tried to put an 'effect' on all of the power and plasma weapons to indor to break the otherwise monochrome effect of the group as a whole.
They look great. Nice to see such old school quality!
Cheers, mate.
I love the old skool Marines, so most of the force will be made up of earlier figures.
While I certainly prefer the Tā moko look of newer Space Sharks, these are cool, too!
Cheers!
Whilst I appreciate that these will not suit all tastes I am trying to find a blend between my very first Marine force (from 1987!) whilst incorporating the new colour scheme and fluff from the novels rather than going for the more modern take on the Sharks.
;)

Great work Paul, loving watch as they progress :)

And here they are, that is all of the converted/rescued figures from the last batch now done.

These twelve figures will form the base of two Assault Squads that will be added to as and when I acquire and finish the figures.
I am currently aiming for an average of eight to a Squad to reflect the under-strength nature of the Company portrayed in the novels, so each of the above Squads still require a couple of additions.

Belter. 8)
I'm really surprised how well the new weapons and helmets fit on the old figures, I had assumed they would be oversized.

I was pleasantly surprised too and will be making ore use of them in future, especially the earlier MK's of helmet as I look the look and think it fits well with the non-standard supply methods described in their background.

I am not really happy with these pictures, as the colours make them a sod to get decent shots of, and was going to redo them but have decided that I really cannot be bothered to do that at the moment, maybe later, so these will have to do...

The new additions are of a Chaplain miniature (who will serve as a line trooper in this force) who has had a shoulder pad transplant to help ease his 'skull addition' a little, and an unmodified MK5 Armour Marine.
There are a few more being tinkered with at the moment, along with something a little larger....

The green stuff work is almost done on the next few conversions, along with the first Dreadnought.....
I recently managed to get my grubby mitts on a large hoard of RT Marines (Cheers, Tarkers! :D ), meaning I now have a good number of figures in hand which will keep me busy for some time.
This also means that I now have multiples of some sculpts and, as I would like every Marine to be an individual, a little modification is in order, so....
The next three Marines are done.....
....but..... Confession time: These are not 'rescues' but conversions!
(Yep, I chopped them up...!).
The three figures above are some of the multiples that I now have.
On the left toting the Bolter has simply had a few extra armour plates added.
The Brother with the chainsword on the right has had his head removed (I have already painted that head twice and do not really get on with it..) which has been replaced with an antique helmet and a little GS work to help the join. He also had his right shoulder pad enlarged to match the helmet better.
The Heavy Bolter in the middle is a sculpt that I now have quite a few of.
He has had his helmeted head removed and placed on his belt. This has been replaced with the head of the chainsword wielder and an armoured 'gorget' added.
I damaged the heavy weapon whilst being a little overzealous with the 'head surgery' and had to repair the end of it.
D'oh!
;)
As for the Dreadnought, that has just had the last bits of GS added.
Pictures will be posted tomorrow.
:)

Looking forward to the new paint jobs :)
I’ve got a Forgeworld Dreadnaught the Raven Guard one (which strangely has Space Shark motifs),I should build it,sort of an old and new thing with yours :)

The first 'vehicle' for the Sharks, is a Dreadnought from Troll Soup Miniatures.
A few green stuff elements have been added to try and make it more 'sharky', hopefully it will not look too comedic once painted...

Influenced by the original RT Dread but much bigger in scale, it towers over the Void Brothers of the Company.

Now in to the 'arms', but this section can get paint thrown at it while they are being done...

Very nice indeed :-*
That dread reminds me of the great white "Bruce" from Finding Nemo, in a good way though lol
Keep up the good work

I liked the old face, but the new one does look a tad meaner! Very good sculpting!

Really enjoying the thread! I want to do something similar with the Mantis Warriors, just trying to find the time to do it...

Funny you should say that as, no matter which pictures of sharks that I looked at for inspiration, I kept coming back to Bruce so you could say he influenced me the most.
;)
Looking great! I liked the old face, but the new one definitely looks more aggressive!
Cheers!
There was something about the first version that did not sit right with me until a fewpeople in 'other places' pointed out the original teeth as the problem.
I am happy with his new nashers and just hope they look OK once paint is thrown at it.
???
Really enjoying the thread! I want to do something similar with the Mantis Warriors, just trying to find the time to do it...
Cheers.
Do it!
Just start small and it will grow, over time, from there.
I was originally only going for a squad or so and now am pushing for a full (but understrength) company......
lol
-
The next six Marines which fill out the first four (understrength) Squads.....
The two on the left complete my second Tactical Squad, whilst the others complete my two Assault Squads.
Three of them have been converted in some way, as I want each Void Brother to be an individual, and the others are straight 'off the peg' castings.
So far that makes four Squads done, 2 Tactical and 2 Assault, along with three characters.
This means that I have already painted more than I originally intended for this 'little' project.
How these things grow....
;)

Looking good 8)

Excellent stuff paul

Looking really good Mason! You'll have to gather them all together for a family shot on some scenic elements. ;)

I will do, when I get a chance, although waiting until I reach the halfway point with the basic Squads may give me a shove to reach that point. Only one more eight-man unit to go, after all.
;)

And, now that the conversions for that squad are done, I can chuck paint at them.
:)
So, three minor conversions for the third Tactical Squad, including the Heavy Bolter*....
....mainly just a matter of adding a couple of extra armour plates and bulking out the shoulder pads, although the Heavy needed his pads expanding quite considerably as he looked a little weird with his new 'Skull Helm' lifting his stance slightly.
*I have multiples of all three of these figures, so they needed a small amount of conversion to make them into individuals.

Speaking of progress, here is a bit more...
Another Tactical Squad has been attacked with a brush...
This brings the total up to five squads and three characters so far, meaning that the basic infantry squads are halfway there.
Here are the rest of them...

The characters...

(Still cannot seem to take a decent picture of the white power armour...).
And finally, a group shot of the progress so far....
I reckon it is time to allow myself a bit of a distraction in the shape of a vehicle or maybe a dread next.

You definitely need to do one of the RT Dreads to go with those guys! Or a Land Speeder maybe?

Four more recruits for the Company....
No conversions this time, just straight-up 80's goodness.
I am adding these to the 1st Squad, the Veterans of the Company, who I see as usually being added to other Squads to bolster their effectiveness or operating independently, using their own initiative, as in the case of the sniper with the Needle Gun for example.

Your marines are great, for sure, but that Dread is simply awesome!
If I'm not mistaken, that's not an original metal version, is it? Rather, I think I recognize (under the fantastic sculpting) the resin re-imagining of the RT one. I can't recall the artist's name right now, but I bought his Imperial Robot from him (sculpted to match an RT era illustration) some time ago.
The lines are much too crisp on this version, the legs too long and slightly birdlike, plus; the back crystalline powerplant (whatever that means lol ) is missing. Also; the resin colour is visible through the nubs and holes for the still to be attached parts such as the arms and the powerplant ;) ).
Can't wait to see it finished! 8)
-
So cool! There's a charm with those old figures that can often be lacking in some of the newer, fussier sculpts (at least from my own perspective).

You are right, it is a resin Exo-Suit from Troll Soup Miniatures, a fair bit bigger than the original metal RT versions.
I still have some work to do on the 'arms' before I can paint them and the powerplant (I still think of it as an exhaust, to be honest!), which has been shortened a little so that it fits in my cabinet better, before I can throw paint at them.
This may happen tomorrow as I am eager to get it finished so I can move on to the next one.
;)
So cool! There's a charm with those old figures that can often be lacking in some of the newer, fussier sculpts (at least from my own perspective).
I agree. I even have a metal original that I am slowly restoring (it is missing several parts!) to add to this project, although he may seem quite small compared to these resin versions.
:)

I assume you are referring to the Dread?
If so, right arm is a standard Power Fist and left is a Seismic Hammer (which I believe comes from the Ironclad kit, but I picked up on ebay) with an underslung Melta Gun.
I will probably add something else to the Fist at some point when I find something that I like the look of.

A few more 'rescue jobs' to enable me to add a few more troops with a bit of variety to the force...
L-R:
Multi Melta Marine- Mostly hiding damage to his shooter and enlarging the face plate of the helmet a little as both were a bit knocked about.
Bolter Marine- Head swap from the chainsword fella as I have multiples of both of these. The addition of a crude gorget hides the join.
MK II Armour- Addition of a plastic chainsword to replace his missing sword.
Chainsword Marine- Head swap with a later edition helm and green stuff work to hide the join, along with a couple of simple kneepads.
I also added quite a few additional armour plates on a few others that I have multiples of so that each is slightly different, but no real point in taking pictures of those.

Anyone know the base of the right model/ vehicle?
Grimm
-
The caption for that picture was:
A force of Ultramarines advances with Imperial Hover Tanks. The vehicle on the left is converted from a toy tank model. The vehicle on the right utilizes a Land Raider kit, plasticard, parts from the spares box, and the added talent of Dave Andrews.
The toy tank was the GI Joe Armadillo toy (not a model). As for the other, even knowing that it is built from a Land Raider kit, I'm having a hard time seeing how.
-
You can definitely see parts of the land raider kit in there but the vast majority looks scratch built
-
I have the GI Joe wotsit on the left, which I intend to use with these fellas but, as for the vehicle on the right...I have no idea.
My guess is that the shape of the vehicle was made up from plasticard (as stated in the article) with various plastic bits attached to it.
As for other vehicles for the Sharks, a lovely gentleman has sent me an original Predator (complete with metal turret weapons, etc...!) and a Rhino, so they will be added to the pool of available hardware.
:)
I shall probably have to paint one of those very soon.
In the meantime, to speed the painting of the infantry, I have managed to throw paint at a bunch of backpacks whilst doing something else......

I must admit that the temptation to paint one of those vehicles next is very strong but I really SHOULD paint at least a few more infantry first in order to stay on track....a handful, at least.

OK, as some will be aware, I have been seeking out damaged Marines to repair and add to the Company.
I have done this with quite e few now but the latest that I have received is certainly looking like more of a challenge....

What vehicles have you got in mind?
Well, I have a couple of Rhinos, a Predator and a Land Speeder, along with a couple of toys to convert, already.
Oh, and a couple more Dreads to do, so that should keep me busy for a while.
I am also considering either scratchbuilding a Land Raider or searching out what is available in the 3rd party market, as the originals RT ones are daft money these days.
-

You can buy a RT Land Raider for less than a modern one costs, but admittedly that's still not very cheap... It's also a very frustrating and time-consuming experience trying to get one for even that price. :?
I would certainly consider scratchbuilding it, as it is an iconic vehicle for the marines, and it's fortunately not overly-complex on details. If you would like any dimensions, either of the vehicle or any of its details, I would be happy to assist you with them! :-)
-

I agree, 100%
The Land Raider is so iconic that it does need to be there.
The only problem with getting one second hand is the paint may well be a sod to remove, given the size of the thing.
Not like I can just drop it in Dettol like I do with the figures.
I would like to take you up on the dimensions of the tank, the track parts being the main issue, especially as they are key to the image of the thing.
If you (or anyone) know any links to templates etc, so that I can get the thing done right, I am confident that I can make a decent fist of it.
Cheers.

Not like I can just drop it in Dettol like I do with the figures.
You can use a small cheap 1" house-painting brush to work some Biostrip all over it and then drop it into a tupperware box or sandwich bag for 24 hours though. After that, a scrub with an old toothbrush in hot water and dishsoap, and most of the paint is gone. I usually find a second application of Biostrip for a longer period (a few days) gets rid of almost anything remaining. Additionally, the prolonged strip will soften or dissolve any superglue, so depending on how the tank was assembled, it can save you some disassembly/correction work too. Whilst a tub of Biostrip is not very cheap, it does go a long way and is unbelievably effective on nearly anything I've tried it on. Beware though; whilst it's totally safe on plastics and metals, it will eat through most glues, resin, and putty (and most kinds of gloves, including nitrile).
I would like to take you up on the dimensions of the tank, the track parts being the main issue, especially as they are key to the image of the thing.
If you (or anyone) know any links to templates etc, so that I can get the thing done right, I am confident that I can make a decent fist of it.

:)
My LR is in the stripper at the moment, so I'll tell you what: When it comes out, I'll do a before-and-after pic for you to show you how well the Biostrip works, and I'll also get some good side/front/top shots marked up with lots of dimensions for you. You'll need to give me until the weekend, but that should be doable for me in that time (and hopefully helpful for anybody else who reads this too!).
I reckon you'll need some thick 2mm plasticard for the track housings and the main body, and I'd do the projecting side parts in this too. Detail work, hatches, etc., can all be done in regular 0.75mm stuff. Rivets in your preferred method, and things like top hatches could come from either a classic Rhino or the old 2E IG tank accessories.
For the sponsons in the original style, a 25mm plastic base plus some 2mm plasticard will get you mostly there, and brass rod for the actual weapon support. The guns could be either from suitable toys (old Zoids were popular back in the day), or scratch-built. As long as each gun has a body, a barrel, a recognisably "lascannon" muzzle, and some greebles, I don't think the actual gun design matters too much. Of course, other alternatives are a boxy-style sponson like the IG tanks (and the old metal-plastic 2E Predators), or even modern Predator sponsons with an extra lascannon added to each. I've seen various conversions and scratchbuilds over the years with all of these different options, and I honestly think they all look good and "plausible".
As for the tracks, I found these (ebay link here (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263147269255)) a long while back, which seemed to be a really good match for the old RT LR tracks. I have no idea what the shipping/duty costs are like these days, but back when I got them I found them to be well packed and neatly cast. They do other sizes suitable for Rhinos/Leman Russes, and for big vehicles like Bane Blades too, and all three sizes in different styles too - I just happened to like the plain classic ones.
I also have another proposal for you to save you making all the tracks link-by-link or having to buy them from abroad. However, I will need to check that what I have in mind actually works properly first, and will send you a PM with details if it does. :)
-
Cheers. Major_Gilbear, for all the helpful tips and suggestions.
I already have a plan on how to build the thing but all suggestions are most useful, especia;;y anything that saves time, like that track link.
:)
What I really need are the dimensions, especially of the sides as that is the most distinct feature.
As I will not be trying to build an exact copy it will most be for guidance to get the appearance of the thing right.
I look forward to seeing what you do.
:)

I have decided to try and finish getting all ten basic infantry squads finished before being diverted onto vehicles (it helps me stay focused!).
So far I have the equivalent to eight of the Squads painted up. along with a Dread and a few characters, so not far to go with that initial target now.
Here are those that have been finished so far sitting in their cabinet...
And from a slight angle to show that there are actually two rows of troops in those Squads!
Once the last sixteen troops (and two Lascannons) are completed there are still a few more to do: the rest of the officers in the Command Squad (Captain, Champion, Standard etc). an attached Terminator Squad (Red Brethren), the Company Scouts and a Techmarine Section.
So still quite a few more infantry figures to paint before they are done, but these will be alternated with the vehicle for variety.
-
Very impressive! :o
I don't think I remember reading it in your thread, but is there any particular reason why the squads are all 8 models rather than 10?
I already have a plan on how to build the thing but all suggestions are most useful, especially anything that saves time, like that track link.

What I really need are the dimensions, especially of the sides as that is the most distinct feature.
No problem!
I should be able to get all those easily enough for you. :)
-
Very impressive! :o
Cheers!
:)
I don't think I remember reading it in your thread, but is there any particular reason why the squads are all 8 models rather than 10?
I based this Company on the one in the novels, which only had seventy-odd Marines due to attrition, so my Squads were all going to have either seven or eight Marines in them. I settled on eight as it is easier to keep track of what I need to acquire.
(It also makes it a little easier to finish and I can always go back and add a few more Marines later if I fancy it).
I should be able to get all those easily enough for you. :)
Cheers!
:D

Impressive chapter :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Have you got an opponent?
-
Superb :-*
-
Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
:)
Have you got an opponent?
Not yet. mate.
Not that I am bothered as this is mostly just a vanity modelling project that I promised myself I would get around to one day.
If they never get used I won't mind, I will know that I have finally done what I set out to do.
;)
-
What I really need are the dimensions, especially of the sides as that is the most distinct feature.
As I will not be trying to build an exact copy it will most be for guidance to get the appearance of the thing right.
As promised, two images; the first is a before-and-after of the Biostrip after about 6 hours, and the second is one of the sides marked up with a dimensioned grid overlay (to make it easier for you to set out). I also did the internal measurements, as these trace out the hull shape. I didn't do the widths of the tank, nor the wheels/tracks, as if you're not after a perfect copy these can be eyeballed without much difficulty.
The tank is back in Biostrip for a long 48hr session - I got lucky with mine, and the original owner had glued it with Bostik or UHU or similar, and a so the second long soak will therefore remove all the glue too! 8)
Finally, I am still working on your tracks, and should have something for you in the next day or two hopefully. ;)
-
Thank you very much, Major_Gilbear, that will be very useful.
:D

A few more conversions that will filling up some of the last few slots in the final three Tactical Squads.
The first picture shows four figures that were more extensively modified....
...whilst this second set of four simply had additional armour trims or small plates added as I have several of each sculpt...
All of them needed to be converted in some way to make them more individual as I want every figure in the force to be different in some way.
;)
-
Nice work! I love the guy on the top right
-
This is a bloody impressive undertaking. It's the sort of thing a lot of us would like to do, sometimes even start to do, but ulnever do. It's great to see come together.
-
Nice putty pushing ! 8)

Man, this soon escalated.
Tidy work, keep it coming.
-
Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.

Cheers!
He is my favourite too.
I had five of that Heavy Bolter sculpt so there were four that needed altering and I think he is the best of the bunch.
:)

Well, I promised myself years ago, after finishing my old Imperial Guard army that I would never take on such a large project again, but this will very nearly be as big as that one was once finished.
Nearly...but not quite...
;)
Nice putty pushing ! 8)
Cheers, mate.
Incidentally, you may wish to know, that this lot are all Welsh imports.
;)
Man, this soon escalated.
lol lol
Yep, it certainly did.
It was MEANT to be 'just a few Marines' when it began....
I seem to have got a little carried away.
:D
-
Five more done....
...eleven to go.
(And: 'Yes', one of them is chewing a bit of grass through his helmet grille.....

Middle guy looks even cooler now

Nice job on those 8)

Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
:)
Middle guy looks even cooler now
I am happy with how he came out.
That head was far too good to not use on one of the multiples of that particular sculpt.
;)
The next five have now been undercoated and ink washed....here we go again!
;)

Just six (or maybe seven) Void Brothers to go and the ten basic Squads are done!
Nearly there....

Nice!!

Outstanding project :-*

Thanks, chaps.

Well done! We could have a game; old versus new, however the distance… ;)

I am impressed :-* :-* :-*
When are they going to see a group shot and a battle report?
-

lol lol
Yeah, that would be quite a task!
;)
I am impressed :-* :-* :-*
When are they going to see a group shot and a battle report?
A group shot?
Once I get the last few painted I will take a shot of the ten Squads together* (somehow...).
As for a Battle Report: I doubt that will happen as I do not even play 40K in any of it's guises, although 2nd Edition has been mentioned to me by a mate recently...
;)
*Before that Company-sized group shot there will be a few 'Squad shots' to come first, though, starting with a couple of new shots of the Assault Squads now that I have sourced the Jump Packs that I want.
Work has begun on the first of those Assault Squads already.
:D
-
We have been playing some second edition you should try and also take a load of pictures :D

You are a bad man, Colin!
I have now picked up four 2nd Edition Codices since reading that comment....

The second set of Jump Packs arrived this morning, so the other Assault Marines will get their new toys soon.
;)
-
Brill 8)
Are they original or 3rd party?
-
Love 'em :-*
-
Awesomeness in its truest form. That company shot will be a sight to behold for sure! 8)
...Are they original or 3rd party?
They look to be 3rd party. The originals still had some vestigial sphere-vents closer to the centerline of the pack, these don't. They're the closest ones I've seen so far though!
But if they are, I'd like to know where you got them as well; I still have an RT squad waiting for theirs... ;)
-
I’ve got some guard that might just need some lol
-
But one word "NIIIIIIICCCCEEEEEE!" ok stretched a bit but :-*
-
Looking good!! Love those jump packs
-
Splendid
-
nice :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks, chaps, much appreciated.
:)
I now have all of the remaining basic Marines assembled and base coated, along with the Terminators. but I really ought to finish the next set of Jump Packs so both Assault Squads are completed.
;)
Are they original or 3rd party?
The Jump Packs are 3rd party offerings that I found on Ebay.
They are the closest I have seen to the originals (which are still the best version as far as i am concerned) but as RT era Jump Packs go for stupid money I am opting for these, which I am very happy with.
:D

For what it's worth, I sympathise with your attempts to buy some, and I think that the ones you have look like splendid alternatives that probably also unbalance the models much less. 8)

The final seven Void Brothers are done!
That is all of the 'basic' Marines for the ten Squads done, I just have to paint up the final three heavy weapons and the Jump Packs for the second Assault Squad and the line infantry Squads for the Ninth Company will be complete.
Then it will be time for the 'Roll Call' group shot...
-
8)
-
Splendid :)

Awesome!!

superb :-*
-
Thanks, chaps!
Much appreciated.
:)
So that is 80 Void Brothers painted up now (I was only going to do about 20 when I started this! ::)).
So, once I have done a few Jump Packs and heavy weapons, I can get on to the fun stuff: Scouts, Terminators, a Techmarine section and the rest of the Command Squad.
And then, and only then....I can play around with some vehicles!
Must... not... get... distracted……
;)

Well, the Jump Packs and heavy weapons are done.
Here are a couple of blurry shots of the heavy weapon troopers....

Your cracking thru these!
-
Your cracking thru these!
Well, with these last few bits done (at last!) I can finally say that the basic Marines are all done.
And, to prove it, here is the last of the additions as the second Assault Squad finally have their Jump Packs....

I have finished tinkering with the Termies and they are now ready for colouring-in...
(With a special mention to armchairgeneral, who provided the bases. Thank you!)

Looking good, and the Terminators suitably brutal! :)
May I ask where the jump packs are from please? And whether they are resin or 3D printed?

Nice additions Paul,my favourites are the second and fourth minis 8)

The Packs are 3D prints, purchased on Ebay.
:)
Nice additions Paul,my favourites are the second and fourth minis 8)
Yes, they are very cool, definitely my favourites.
They are both fairly modern 'fan sculpts', the only alteration being a few extra armour plates on one as I do not want any identical figures in the force.
The others are old 80's Termies with modern arms, the centre fella being a converted Grey Knight.
You are very welcome. Excellent painting. Good to see them put to such good use.
Thanks again.
You had great timing with that offer!
:)
-
The Terminators have been coloured-in....

The Power Glove colour is a subtle nod to the Carcharadon 'Red Brethren' fluff in the novels.
;)
And the same figures on a white background, which seems to alter their colouration considerably!
Weird, eh?
Not sure which background that I prefer, as they each have their merits....
-
Lovely job on those :-*
My favourites are still the second and fourth and the black background :)
-
Cheers, mate!
I agree, the black does make them look more vibrant.
:)

Space Shark Scouts conversions completed.
A mix of old, damaged RT Marine Scouts and Orlock Gangers.
The Scouts got loincloths and bandannas to match the Orlocks.....

The addition of resin Shark pads for all of them, hopefully, helps tie them together.
Now to the colouring-in....

Cheers, mate.
They were painted pretty quickly, mostly drybrushing and washes but I am happy with the overall look of them. If I want to finish the Company and paint over a hundred figures before getting fed up with them then a few corners need cutting...
They are also a pain to photograph, being so dark, but here are a couple of closer shots that reveal all the flaws!
;)

Company shot so far....
So, that is all ten 'standard' Squads, the Scouts, Terminators, a few characters and a Dreadnought.
98 Void Brothers and a Dread done!
All but five finished since March, so happy with the progress.
Note: There are two WIP figures, a Librarian and a Techmarine, who seem to have snuck into the shot too. They will, hopefully get finished off this week....
-
8)
-
Holy cow! You've really been plowing through them, haven't you? 8)
This is such a cool project; the coherency of the entire force is just great. I guess it'll be vehicle time soon... :D

Soon! Just a couple of characters to do first.
;) :D

Amazing stuff, very well done.

Cheers, mate, although they aint done yet!
Saying that, I have not touched anything with any intent for over a week now.
Better do something soon before I lose the mojo!

A month later.......
Well, I finally found the time and mojo to get back to it.
The other members of the Command Squad are in progress but I also could not resist making a start on the second Dread too.

Great sculpting work! 8)
The teeth are from some sort of shark jewelry I assume?
The First thing that came to my mind though, was the Netflix series H2O: Mermaids. My little girl used to watch that cartoon end to end and over again, some years ago. And it has this hammerhead shark bad guy character called Burke:
Sorry; just goes to show what my frame of reference has become... lol
Great to see you're soldiering on with these guys. I've just started the first squad of my own Mentor Legion project, but I don't know if that'll ever be as prodigious as your Space Sharks!
-
Great sculpting work! 8)
Cheers, mate.
Not finished yet but nearly there.
:)
The teeth are from some sort of shark jewelry I assume?
Correct!
A ring that I found trawling ebay.
I may have to keep one of those 'gold' teeth, it seems...
;)
Sorry; just goes to show what my frame of reference has become... lol
lol lol
Great to see you're soldiering on with these guys.
Cheers. Nearly there now (although there will still be 22 'spaces' to fill as and when I get hold of the figures to make it a full strength Company!).
Just a few more members of the Command Squad and the Techmarines to do.
Oh, and then there is the subject of the vehicles....
::)
I've just started the first squad of my own Mentor Legion project, but I don't know if that'll ever be as prodigious as your Space Sharks!
I am looking forward to seeing those.
I have a Squad of 3rd Party Terminators to do and they will probably be Mentor Legion, if I ever get time to do them that is!
:)

100 Up!
(If you count the first Dread, and I am...)
A couple of new recruits for the Space Sharks Command Squad in the form of a Senior Librarian and what will either be the Captain or Company Champion, dependant on whether or not I ever get around to sculpting a Captain...
It has been ages since I added anything to the Sharks as my mojo upped and left a few weeks ago, so I forced myself to finish off a couple of figures that had been started but not finished.
I am going to go back and make a better job of the markings on the Captain/Champion's legs as they look awful now I see them in this picture. At least I managed to point a brush at something, anyway...
Not sure about the blue hooded robe either yet. Blue is the Company colour but I think that there may be too much of it on this fella.
Time will tell.
And with the rest of the Command Squad so far...
Making a start with the brush on the second Dread now.
-
Fine additions mate👍
Like the markings on the special weapon guys thighs too!
Oh! That's one helluva bfg he's waving about as well lol

Nice 8)

I'm so envious of this project; I absolutely love it!

Those marking were really tricky... it was an absolute sod getting those transfers to line up properly. ;)
Oh! That's one helluva bfg he's waving about as well lol
lol
Yeah, it is a little large.
It is the standard Marine with Multi-Melta (or Brother Morris, as he sometimes like to be called) but his MM was so miscast that I decided to wrap it in green stuff and tiddly-pom about with it until I was happy with the result.
He will probably end up in the Techmarine Section once I get around to them, though.
;)
-
lol
Tiddly pomming par excellence,if I may say so ;) :)

WIP of the 9th Company Standard bearer.
Another rescue of a damaged Marine with the addition of a new right arm and converted Blood Angel standard and a helmet taken from a previously converted figure, along with a bit of greenstuff to make non-standard armour.

Nice 8)
Can I ask, what is the plastic thing on the standard? :)
Cheers, mate.
It is the top of a staff from one of the GW Age of Sigmar figures.
I thought it would fit it quite well given the 'sea creature' theme of the Space Sharks and I wanted to hide where I had cut off a purity seal from the banner.

Aha!
Blue sky thinking,I love it ! 8)

That latest dread is already terrifying! Now about those vehicles… ;)

Cheers!
The Dread is almost done with just his second 'arm' to finish making before painting it.
After that there is just the above Standard Bearer to do before I start on the vehicles.
There are a fair few to do but I intend doing those before finishing the Company with the Techmarine contingent and finally the Company Captain, which needs sculpting.
;)

Love the standard bearer

As you can see, I opted for a double plasma cannon option for the right arm.
Not 'legal'??
Dunno, really, but who cares if you don't ever intend to use it for gaming?
;D
-
It's done! :D
Awesome work! The sculpting and painting really ties it in with the rest of the force. 8)
And even though many of my own projects will probably also never be used in a game, I do try to keep them 'legal'. You know; just in case... ::)
-
Excellent stuff
Just rember, that one versions legal can (and often does) becomes illegal in the latest uber-new version, so who cares says I lol
Lovely, lovely Space Sharks 🦈
-
Awesome looking. Your imagination is only matched by your skills. Great project, thanks for sharing with us.
-
...Just rember, that one versions legal can (and often does) becomes illegal in the latest uber-new version, so who cares says I...
Very true ::) So a little caveat is in order here then; I tend to make my armies 'legal' under the rules from when the army was current, and also which rules from the period I liked best ;)
-

Cracking work mate.

Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
:)
As for 'legal' thing: I gave up having any interest in actually playing 40K a long time ago (I think I played one game of 4th edition...) and one of the reasons was the rule changing/power creep/need to buy so many books etc.
I have still kept the army fairly close fluff-wise and have used the background in the Robbie MacNiven novels as the basis.
Their rather unusual supply methods allow me to add weird and unusual stuff when it suits me.
:)
-
Brilliant conversion mate! Love it.
-
Loving this project :-*
-
Thanks, chaps!
:)
Just the standard bearer to finish off and then there are just the Techmarines and that is the infantry done.
Of course, there is the small matter of the Captain himself but I still have not decided fully on where to go with him....

There is plenty more room for infantry as that is only half of it but the vehicles (when I get around to them!) will be going into boxes unless I do get something deeper.

Even though some of us old timers have mixed feelings about GW (I've been around since Rogue Trader hit the US) it's cool projects like this that nostalgically remind us of why we were so enamored of it back in the day. Your SM force evokes the best of those feelings for me so real thanks for sharing this project with us it really brings back the best memories of those days.

Thank you very much!
:)
Very much a nostalgia thing for me too as I have had no interest in actually playing 40K for about 15 years.
I too have been with it since the very beginning.
The release of RT was a revelation for my fertile teenage mind and I always wanted to 'do' that Marine project that I could never seem to focus on back in the day.
Too many lovely new shiny things to distract you every month!
;)

The bannerbearer looks just fantastic! :-*
The conversion is great; just goes to show that even damaged and mangled miniatures still have a future after some TLC... 8)
-
That looks awesome, mate, as does the command squad.
-
Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.

Just wait and see what has to be done to the other one to make it serviceable!

The Techmarines have been completed.
I shall pop the picture of them up soon....

Here they are, the Techmarines of 9th Company.

I do have one more but as he is on a bike he will be done alongside the vehicles.

They're awesome. There'd better be not a single broken lightbulb back in the fortress monestary now! :D

Excellent

Very cool! 'Janitor Force'

A classic Land Raider starts the Space Shark vehicle pool.
Piccies later once they are uploaded.

Well, it has taken a while to get back into the swing of things but the vehicles are finally starting to be worked on, beginning with my personal favourite of the old RT offerings, the Land Raider....

As the Raider was not going to have a base and I still wanted to tie it into the basing scheme of the figures I felt that adding some element of that scheme to the tracks with a mix of dark brown paint, wood glue, sand and static grass mixed into a paste should do the trick.
I think it worked.
-
Fantastic Paul :-* :-* :-*
-
That’s a corker 8)
-
That's a belter mate. Has it just tracked over the Chapterhouse bowling green? I love the detail on the tracks.
-
Awesome. Love the grass on the tracks too.

Top job👍

It seems like the experiment on the tracks may have worked then....

I have not checked the bowling green but I do know that the Captain of the first eleven is none too happy!
;)
-
Awesome work! 8)
And a sobering reminder that I should get my ass in gear and finally finish the RT squad I still have on my desk since January... ::)
I love the freehanded tribal patterns; not too heavy-handed, but still well visible and distinct. the grass on the traks is isnpired too.
Did you file/sand/cut flat the bottom of the lower tracks? I plan do that on mine, but have yet to see any example of such a step.

They are exactly as they come, no modification at all.
I think it is because it is sitting on a black t-shirt, and it has sunk into the material a little, that gives that impression.
Wish I had thought of doing just that now though.
Oh, well....
::)

Superb job Paul love it

Aw yis first comment. These look awesome! I love the blue accent markings and the different armour marks! The Raider is of course excellent - nice results on the tracks and again the markings are spot on.

Thank you, Sir!
I am currently working on a Predator that should be vaguely familiar to you.
;)
-
Just scrolled through the entire thread again and what a difference your paintjob makes on that Landraider! From a white (presumably) White Scars livery to a dark grey with tribals everywhere. And its contents (the termies) are looking great next to it.
I had to look twice to identify the center one though. It took me scrolling all the way back to realize it's actually a Grey Knight with some additional sculpting on the helmet :D
Curious about that predator now!
-
Cheers, mate.
:)

It is modified a fair bit to hide the GK details. As well as the helm, he also has a large reinforced chestplate and a couple of bits on his legs to hide the other symbols. I really should have taken at least one picture before slapping paint on...
::)
Curious about that predator now!
I have come the conclusion that I am not too keen on the Predator. Too many bits to mess around with and swivelling weapons are a bit of a pain too...
I have a plan to disguise some of the areas that I am not satisfied with, fingers crossed it works!
-
Some WIP shots of the Predator now that basic painting has been finished (apart from the rear markings which I may tinker with some more....

Interesting pattern on the chapter logo. Looks like some sort of digital camo?

Mmmm, sharky :)

Not really, just random splodges is all.

The addition of a bit of surgical gauze 'cam-netting helps cover a couple of areas that needed hiding.
I opted against adding any 'mud' to this vehicle as it would not really be noticed.
Pictures in situ with some scenery should follow soon enough....in the meantime work has begun on a Vindicator.
;)
And a special 'Thank You!' to Ragsta for donating the Predator to the cause in the first place.
Cheers, mate!
:)
-
Looking great again, Paul! 8)
Flamers and lascannons; nice and ecclectic, and the designs on the front glacis are very cool indeed.
Also liking the camo netting; a good decision when covering up some damage.
Oh; and stop posting so frequently! You're making me look bad ;D
-
It was my pleasure sending that beast to a good home, mate! Really cool seeing it getting a second chance at hobby fun!
Liking the final results very much - the vehicle park will look awesome with all those markings throughout.
-
Thanks, chaps.

I was very happy when I managed to pick up this vehicle on ebay as it had the metal 'extra armour' pieces which add a nice bit of character (not to mention weight!) to the beast.
-
A fine addition to the collection 8)
-
Oh come on! :P
But it is a nice tank...
I like the continued addition of the camo netting, and as always: the tribal markings as well. Is that a Rhino hatch on top of the cupola?
Oh; and did yours suffer from wonky barrel syndrome too? And that sounds very wrong all of a sudden... lol
-
Thanks!
:)
I like the continued addition of the camo netting, and as always: the tribal markings as well. Is that a Rhino hatch on top of the cupola?
Yep, that is an original Rhino hatch.
The Cupola was missing when I picked it up so I added a plastic 'safety' cover from a rattle can as that fit perfectly with a little trimming and green stuff. The hatch cover just seemed to fit just right on top.
Oh; and did yours suffer from wonky barrel syndrome too? And that sounds very wrong all of a sudden... lol
lol lol
I think most of the bits are wonky in some way, but that seems apt considering the vibration that cannon must cause!
;)
-
Camouflage netting on 40K just always seems so wrong.
Your lovely men and vehicles actually are low-visibility and it makes sense.
But camouflage and 40K just always seems so wrong.

Oh, I don't know; 35 years of Rogue Trader vehicles actually can't be wrong... :D

I can see your point bearing in mind 'modern' 40K but these are a homage to the Rogue Trader era where camo etc was a thing.
AND I want my Marines to look darker and more 'realistic' (if that is even possible).
;)
My Eldar, on the other hand are slightly different...

Fourth in the Space Shark vehicle pool is the Apothecarium Rhino.
As I originally picked this up with a very tidy ivory coloured Deathwing paint schem, which I was loath to completely cover, the Apothecarium Rhino idea was born.
The almost white paint scheme also makes it a nightmare to try and take picture of....
The front viewport needs a few more coats of gloss medium to try and smooth it a little!
The markings on the rear need tidying a little too!
I have converted it somewhat from it's original state as I removed an 'extension' from the front, which revealed a rather nice shape which became the frontal view port, and removed the upper hatch doors which were in an open position in order to close them.
Other than that it has basically been given a half-repaint to enable me to add the Space Shark livery, the aforementioned viewport and the tribal markings seen on the other vehicles in the force.
Four down, two to go....
-
Looking good. A Deathwing Rhino eh? That also was a thoroughly RT job then :)
Good call incorporating its paintjob though! What wad the protrusion on the front glacis, that it left such a perfectly teardrop shape behind? It sort of, very distantly, reminds me of deep sea exploration craft. Which is apt.
And open doors on a mk1 Rhino; does that mean there was an interior too? I made one Rhino like that for my IF, but it was a lot of work and ultimately not worth doing for all of them... ::)
-
Loving the Ivory finish on that, looks good👍
-
Thanks, chaps.
:)

Yes, the original colour had to be kept as it was a very tidy job....and I am lazy!
There were also some nice Deathwing markings on the doors, clouds and suchlike, which it was a shame to have to cover.

It was some kind of gun extension.
I will try to remember to take a picture of it blu-tacked in place before it is packed away.
;)

Not a full interior, just a visible door to the front and a slope leading down to it.
It did not really work for me so I just closed the doors.
Next up should be the Company Captain, which I am currently converting from a Terminator Captain from the original boxed set.
:)

Very nice Paul! Nice to see a specialist vehicle

Excellent! Looking forward to an army photo :)

Cool project! That last vehicle is really interesting, totally Rogue Trader!

Excellent! Looking forward to an army photo :)
Once the last two vehicles and Captain are done, I will.
Getting closer to that point now, so I had better figure out how I am going to do that.
o_o
Cool project! That last vehicle is really interesting, totally Rogue Trader!
Thanks, Doc!
Hopefully the next vehicle will be even more 'RT'!

The final infantry figure!
WIP shot of the Space Shark Company Captain conversion.

(That huge mace seems to be causing problems getting the camera to focus....ho, hum)..

Based on the original Terminator Captain figure from '88 (always loved that figure!), he has had most of his Termie armour parts removed to enable him to be wearing Artificier Armour and don an '80's Captain's cloak/backpack combo.
Nearly there!
:)
-
Ooh! He's a big lad ! , great conversion. 8)

Noice 8)

Very cool! 8)
That mace is from the 2nd range of Chaos Tetminators, right?

Thanks, Gents.

That mace is from the 2nd range of Chaos Tetminators, right?
Not sure, to be honest, but quite possibly.
I picked it up on Ebay as it was just begging to be used on this chap.
:)

With the Captain coloured-in, the Space Shark Command Squad is now complete!
The Captain is done, but is an absolutely nightmare to photograph due to that mace!

Just one more figure to assemble (it is already painted) and the Sharks are done!
Woo-Hoo!
:D
-
8)

Extremely cool! o_o

The final figure has been assembled, which just leaves pictures and they are done.

The final figure to be added to the force, Head Techmarine on Jet Cycle....
That makes 107 Void Brothers, a full (understrength, as is the usual case for the Space Sharks/Carcharadons) Company, with four vehicles.
That includes all ten standard Squads, a Scout contingent, a Techmarine section, a Terminator Squad and a Command Squad.
I am calling that a day and moving on to another project.
A full 'army shot' photo will have to be taken at some point when I get the time, I guess......
:)
-
Congrats on quite an achievement, Paul! 8)
That's a lot of RT goodness; probably more than I'll ever be able to muster lol
Can't wait to see them all grouped together. The entire setup will undoubtedly take some effort too!
-
Nice one mate 8)
-
Fantastic achievement, something you should be deservedly proud of.
-
Great looking job on him Paul 8)
-
I had forgotten about that pointy jetbike thing! Nice job on it and great work on this impressive army, it has been fun to watch it grow.
-
Cracking effort all the way through 8)
-
It was MEANT to be 'just a few Marines' when it began....
I seem to have got a little carried away.
:D
Awesome, which company are you doing next lol
Well done, congrats on seeing it through.
-
Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
:)
Can't wait to see them all grouped together. The entire setup will undoubtedly take some effort too!
I am going to try and sort that out over the next few days at some point.
It may prove quite difficult to get them all in one shot....
Awesome, which company are you doing next lol
lol
Well, a company of sorts... Eldar Pirates is next on the agenda.
;)
-
Can't wait to see them all grouped together. The entire setup will undoubtedly take some effort too!
Here ya go, the whole Company on parade, ready for inspection....

Another angle...
And 'Yes', it did take a while to sort out.
;)
-
So cool 8)
-
They look super all laid out like that ! 8)
-
That is impressive.
-
Fabulous, and it must be jolly satisfying :)
-
That is really impressive; the force looks so coherent! :-* 8)
And like Blackwolf said; the whole lot together must be really satisfying to look at.
Also, I love how you set up the shot; it's very reminiscent of old White Dwarf Army shots, with that background and all. Very inspirational to look at; I've got a long way to go yet... :D
-
Grand
-
Thanks, chaps!
:)
And like Blackwolf said; the whole lot together must be really satisfying to look at.
There is a sense of satisfaction, knowing that they are 'finished'* at last, yes.
:D
*Although, saying that, there are a couple of figures that I will be adding in due course just because I now have them....but not too many!
::)
-
Sweet, until now I didn't have a good sense of the scale of this force. :-*
-
Sweet, until now I didn't have a good sense of the scale of this force. :-*
Thanks, Matt!
Yep, it has been a bit difficult to stay focussed on this project and not be distracted into something else.
:)
My next project will not be quite as large or require so much disipline to stay on target.
In fact, I may just flit between things and make life easier.
;)
