With the New Year in, 2021's ProjectTroy is under way; in a very small way at least. I have ordered 60-odd 28mm figures (more than all the other 28mm miniatures I currently own combined) from Foundry, Newline, Eureka and Lucid Eye to field a 750 point army of Trojans for Fantastic Battles. Basing them on 60mm wide bases, the same figures will provide options for 100 or 120 point games of l'Art de la Guerre, or one large (or two understrength) division/s for Hail Caesar. Presuming I pull the original plan together, there is them loads of scope to expand!

The first miniature to get some paint is a Trojan prince to serve as the army's warlord. He is - rather ironically - one of the warrior figures from a Foundry 'Achilles' chariot pack. He has fancier armour than any of the other figures in the collection so far, so it was only right that he got to don some royal purple.
-
Wow, he really pops! :o
-
Oh that looks nice and sounds interesting! Will follow gladly.
-
:-* wow ! that’s some lovely brushwork there...good luck with your project...shall enjoy following your progress
-
There is never enough Trojan war threads, so thanks. Nice start and I'll be following your progress.
-
Thats a nice paint job look forward to watching the project development, its a personal favourite period of mine.
I am also working on a Trojan War project, revitalising a demo game (Salute and Partizan) from 20 years ago. (the terrain also went to GW games day in 2002)
It will have around 1000 infantry and 70 plus chariots, plus civilian vignettes - the table is 10' x 6' and includes the walls of Troy, 4 ships and buildings inside the walls so it is a monster game!
Last time out a group of us put all the armies together but I am now working through the entire lot myself because I collected everything I needed back at the time, I just never painted it! Somewhere around halfway through the infantry, and 50 chariots to go, so it won't be back on the show circuit just yet :D
I am also writing a full campaign booklet for War & Conquest and other game systems
Its all 28mm, and there's a few pics on the War & Conquest Facebook page as I can't work out how to post images off Facebook to here
Heres a link just drop it in your browser https://www.facebook.com/War-Conquest-104021388266236 and scroll down to the pictures and information (if you also go to my own Facebook page there's even more background chat there )
I will be adding more pics and once I have located the pictures, more from back in 2000 and the 2002 games day which used the Perries collection off Egyptians and Hittites
-
Wow @Scarabminiatures, that's an big project. Much more ambitious than mine!
I have been stalled by the new border down the Irish Sea has been delaying all my orders from GB to NI for weeks at a time. So far, all I have managed is the prince and a few chariot horses! Soon though... soon.
-
Slow progress, much hampered by the delays at the new border as I've noted before. However, I have at least now got a few chariots up and running!

A new captain of Troy, and some lads armed only with javelins and a bad attitude. These are all from Eureka Minaitures.

Chief
Nice Paint job on these , those Irregular figures are quite nice as well.
Cheers

Nic
thats some nice brush work there and nice to see an Euruka model painted up, I don't have any of those.
I do seem to have multiple heroes in the collection though, I seem to have more Nestors than I know what to do with!
Heres one of the Trojan War Spear units - these will be Greeks plus an unbiased vignette for within the walls of troy
Over on the Facebook page I will be chatting about the planned scenarios soon, so if you have joined up and want to chip in with comments that would be great
-
Greeks didn't post so lets have another go
-
@scarab, that is an impressive unit of spearman!
I am working on my first spear and bow unit at the moment. In the meantime, here are some posh blokes with axes. Also from Eureka.

-
40 man unit, its one of the largest, others are 32 and variations thereof!
Liking the axemen, will have to have another look at the eureka website
currently painting up another archer unit for the trojans and some trojan women for a change of pace - will post pics once finished
-
Great looking project. They'll look great when you have the whole army done.
-
Thanks. Working (slowly) on a unit of longspears now.

Nice thread with great pictures :)
Just aquestion about the wine makers and their wine grapes, are these scratch built ?
Thanks
-
A nice start to your project especially the chariots. I have just acquired some myself and wonder if you have any tips on assembling them as there are no instructions with mine.

Looks like this foundry pack.

I'm afraid mine were second hand, so I sort of fudged them together. The side panels have an internal frame with skins/leather stretched over the outside. Beyond tht, I'm not sure I can be much help. Oh, there is an internal support which is supposed to run between the driver and warrior, but I ditched it to allow the crew to fit in easier.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I am sure I will work it out - or buy some second hand chariots ??? ??? ???
Sorry to hijack your thread.

The next unit for ProjectTroy consists of two bases of Trojan archers. These are from Newline and they are rather nice sculpts. I am part way through painting a unit of Newline spearmen who are... adequate, but these chaps jumped the queue because I quite like them and needed to break up the routine.
Next up, finish those spearmen and. then, on to the Amazons!

A unit of Newline spearmen (wth a Foundry chap to lead them). They still need a matt varnish, but until such time as the humitidy drops...

Nice, what rules do you plan to use. Do you intend to build a historical opponent.
-
They are based on 60mm wide bases and the army composition is being built specifically to allow me to play three different rule sets, Fantastic Battles, ADLG, and Hail Caesar.
I've friends working on Hittites and Egyptians as foes.
-
And the final pieces of this stage of the project... Amazons and a priest.

Next up, a couple of army shots!
-
This is coming along nicely. Very cool to see it develop.
-
These are fantastic! I'm doing a similar project in 10mm building both sides, probably to use with To the Strongest but I'm sure I'll experiment with others too. I've a long term aim of doing a Troy battleboard to play on....but I've still a long ways to go before I get to that!
These are absolutely beautiful though, very inspiring.
How do you plan to use the heroes? Will they be part of a unit or characters on their own?
-
The new additions are fab.
-
This is developing into a cracking collection matey
-
great figures and paint-jobs.
-
Lovely painting especially on the Priest/Priam figure.
-
Thanks for all the kind comments folks! I'm still much happier paining 10mm and 6mm stuff, but these guys do have a certain charm.
How do you plan to use the heroes? Will they be part of a unit or characters on their own?
It rather depends on the rule set. For l'Art de la Guerre and Hail Caesar they would be implictly within units (except for the divisional commanders). For Fantastic Battles there is more scope to have characters running around on the table with a little more nuance; acting as individuals, joining units, and duelling as the mood takes them.

I took some pretty pictures of the army together!
There are also individual unit shots and the army lists for using the same force in different games up on the blog.

-
Excellent work!
Yeah for my 10mm I'm going with a mix of using them for commanders (the major heroes), using them as hero tokens (as To The Strongest uses heroes) and embedded into units (for minor named heroes) so on my lists each unit has a named unit leader as well as associated hero where applicable.
Should be reasonably adaptable to other rules too.
-
Awesome looking army!
-
Thanks gents.
-
Excellent looking army.
-
look fantastic en masse.
-
Really lovely. Would be interested in a size comparison between the various manufacturers if you get a moment.

Does this help?

From left to right: Newline, Foundry, Redoubt, Eureka and a Lucid Eye Amazon. Lucid Eye are just a smidge too tall for my liking, but the others will all work in an army together. In my Trojan army, they have no choice!
-
Thanks. Wow. They all basically work. Though agree Lucid eye too big.
-

Continuing the momentum (all that it is!) I have now completed a third unit of heavy spearmen with integrated missile weapons for my 28mm Trojan army. This time it consists of two bases Redoubt spearmen and slingers, Foundry leader (behind a Redoubt shield). and a Newline standard bearer carrying a CP Models standard with the Egyptian top cup off replaced by a 6mm horse!

Lovely painting on both the spearmen and the priestess. :-* :-*
-
Very nice! The mouth on the sculpt is a little weird, but that's not the painter's fault! :D I love how you matched the colors to those Minoan frescoes!

Fantastic!

Hoping to provide some covering fire (and allow their comrades to fight in the shade), the completion of this latest batch of Trojan archers from Newline (and their naturist mates below) brings Phase 2 of ProjectTROY very close to a natural completion.
Don't forget the slingers. Never forget! I always love slingers and I think it'd be a sad day when I field an ancient army without them! These NSFW lads are from Eureka. The are a little bit larger than Newline and Foundry, about the same size as Redoubt, and smaller than Lucid Eye.

A super little vignette. :-* :-* Who makes the Mules?
The lead driver is a Foundry charioteer with his left arm bent. The mules themselves are from Castaway Arts (in Australia). The squatting figure is a Castaway Arts Sumerian (I think...?) with the head from a Newline commander, a Newline figure-of-eight shield slung over his back, and a Foundry sword in his hand.
-
Beautifully done sir, you have a lovely bright paintings style 👍
-
Thanks! Raglan. I find it has become more abstract the older I get! :D

Fantastic project mate!!! :-*
