Title: 20mm Plastic Greek adventurers
Post by: swiftnick on January 12, 2021, 09:03:59 PM
So after chatting with Hobgoblin about 20mm plastics in RPGs I decided to try some. Going for a Runequest vibe. Also wanted to try out the contrast paints on figures with very shallow details.
Started off with a small party of adventurers as you can see in the strangely out of focus pictures attached.

I realise that I am just replicating what I already have in other scales. But I do quite like the figures and they are cheap enough.

Looking good! How did you find the paint sticks to those Zvezda figures? I reckon they're pretty much the best ones out there, but also the hardest to undercoat successfully.

I'd forgotten that the Spartan set has that baggage-carrier - very useful for RPGs!

The paint is staying put so far! I use a plastikote undercoat which I think helps. The contrast paints seemed to work reasonably well on the plastics even with my slapdash painting style.
I forgot to trim the flash of the amazon but not really noticeable to my eyes anyway.
Have just received the mummy set all the way from the Ukraine.

Nice! I hope to get started on some Greeks and Persians in 1/72 this year myself...

Have finished a few more Greek style adventurers and some amazons.

Have also done some opposition.

Also starting to put more thought in what to do with the rest of the figures. I already have hoplite armies in 28mm and 15mm, so don't need another one in 20mm.
Obviously looking to do something more fantastic maybe Gloranthan. Maybe Lunars or  Sun dome templars.
I had been thinking of just going with 60mm frontage HOTT bases. But remembered I had a load of these bases from Supreme littleness designs. So now thinking Lion Rampant.

Just before I went away for my latest trip I was chatting to Biscuit D in Edinburgh. Biscuit D is a major lover of all things plastic and 20mm. So anyway he ended up sending me about 20 boxes of various Ancients including masses of persians.
made a small start this week.

I love these guys in the front. Nice and weird Sakbe road, Town or temple guards.

A few more Greeks.
In a bit of a quandrary here. What was meant to be just a wee side project with maybe a few packs of figures had grown arms and legs. Have put them away just now while I have  athink.
