Here my first Star Wars miniature (I will paint many more and include in this topic). A vintage West End Games Imperial Navy Trooper with a minor conversion (head/mask and rank insignia). Then I created a new character that I will use in my Solo games: Moff Damon Gul Reda. Soon I will paint his body guard of two Stormtroopers in red armor.

Moff Damon Gul Reda also known as "Commander Red".
The origins of Damon Gul Reda are surrounded in secrets. He always wears a sinister battle helmet that conceals his features. It is supposed he was born to a very influential family on Coruscant. However, as far as anyone knew, Gul Reda has no family of which to speak.
Force-Sensitives find the presence of Gul Reda extremely disturbing. Gul Reda can nullify force powers, and if he is in close quarters to his targets his very existence drains the strength from force users and even normal beings. The uniquely designed battle-helm of Gul Reda, can either muffle or focus the Gul Reda powers as required. Guld Reda therefore specialised in jedi-hunting during the Great Jedi Purge.
With Palpatine's backing, Gul Reda became Moff of the Oplovis Sector in 3 ABY. After the fall of the Galactic Empire, Gul Reda remained part of the Imperial Remnant and retained control of a semi-independent sector. However, despite having both the firepower and the confidence, he did not mount a major attack on the New Republic, rather he concentrated on consolidating imperial power in his sector waiting the return of the Emperor.
Gul Reda proved to be a meticulous and efficient Moff and expect the very best of his subordinates. His sector became exceptionally well administered. Some speculated that Gul Reda served as an Emperor's Hand before his appointment as Moff.
Although at times ruthless, Gul Reda isn't uncaring, he helped to consolidate the Empire's control of the Oplovis Sector providing peace, order and prosperity to the loyal imperial citizens, but severely punishing the rebels and outlaws who still oppose to his government. His philosophy can be summed up in the motto "strict but fair". From 12 ABY, Gul Reda joined the Council of Moffs in the Pellaeon's Imperial Remnant.
While looking for ispiration for a intriguing imperial character, I was ispired by an image of the "Sith Eternal Fleet Technician".

I painted two WEG stormtroopers with a red paint scheme, they will be the elite bodyguards of Moff Gul Reda. I'm planning to paint three more crimson guards: a commander, a simple guard and a guard with heavy weapon.

The paint schem does look pretty impressive. I really liked those old WEG Star Wars minis. The scale was definitely better suited for including vehicles than that of Legion.

The WEG Star Wars miniatures are true 25mm, then too small to play with other 28mm miniatures. In fact I'm looking to buy some other true 25mm miniatures (Denizen, Ground Zero Games, Ral Partha) for my games with SW miniatures.
-
Great paint jobs and backstory.
I have 4 unpainted boxes of those lovely WEG figures staring at me mournfully ...they really deserve to be in action sooner rather than later!
p.s. Oplovis ... now that's a name I've not heard in a long time ...not since I last read my WEG Rebel Alliance Sourcebook from cover to cover! :)
-
Very cool!
As ever, love your work.
-
Thanks :)
Looking for alternative miniatures I could use alongside my true 25mm West End Games Star Wars miniatures, I've found this Ral Partha Europe (Dark Eye) miniature. The scale is fine. I painted it as a semi-human female Devaronian wild hunter.

Thanks, yes I know. In fact I yet ordered some Denizen Miniatures and I'm planning to buy some GZG miniatures too. ;)
-
Nice work :-* These miniatures always remind me of the old Citadel Spacefarers :)
-
Fantastic project, I love the WEG Star Wars range

Thanks :)
I repainted one of my reaper miniatures, it will be fine as a female alien bounty hunter, her name could be "Ranna".
Maybe an hybrid between a dubravan and an aeosian parents.

Loving these.
-
Are these WEG miniatures closer to "true 25mm" like GZG, or more to 20mm and 1/72 scale (like Elhiem)?
-
They fit perfectly with the GZG 25mm, I bought some to use as different rebel forces and imperial local non stormtrooper pdf type forces.
-
Thanks :)
Yes these West End Games/Grenadier Star Wars miniatures are true 25mm. Fine miniatures to fit alongside WEG SW are: Ground Zero Games (I'm planning to order some), Denizen miniatures (yet received some), some of the old Grenadier and Ral Partha ranges too.
I painted the classic West End Games Darth Vader for my Star Wars games.

I was an active member of the 501st Legion Italica Garrison between 2001-2009. And one of my costumes was the Stormtrooper. Here a pictures of myself, more than 10 years ago, with my Stormtrooper armor (now sold).
-
Great work and awesome photo.
The 501st looks like a lot of fun. There is a local chapter here I used to see at the local annual Lego show. They were really great at interacting with the kids and helping people enjoy themselves. Amazing work on the costumes too.
-
Thanks :)
I painted 5 more stormtroopers, then here Darth Vader with a squad from the 501st legion "Vader's Fist".

Absolute class, such an original use of a old classic figure.
-
I know I've already commented on this thread but I absolutely love what you've done so thought it was worth another post.
-
Great work! Love seeing those old minis being brought back to life.
-
Great stuff, puts my efforts to shame
-
Thanks :)
Some rebel scum join Ahsoka Tano. Most are West End Games miniatures, with the addition of a Metal Magic female adventurer (converted as a female dubravan) and a Denizen miniature painted as Commander Mirith Sinn (Star Wars Crimson Empire I-II-III comics), while the other rebels' paint scheme is ispired by the rebels from the Star Wars Crimson Empire I comic book.

I normally avoid pre-painted plastic miniatures, but I made an exception for the WotC Star Wars Miniatures Phase Zero Dark Trooper. I repainted the miniature and the final result is quite good. Surely, the size is much bigger of my 25mm West End Games Star Wars miniatures (but curiously the blaster has the same size of the stormtroopers), but I want to justify it as the "normal" size of a enhanced human, with an average height of about 230cm. Actually it could be considered the Galactic Empire/Imperial Remnant equivalent of a Space Marine from the Imperium of Warhammer 40.000 background. Maybe a new Dark Project (Phase 0.1?) done by my Moff Damon Gul Reda.

I always liked the concept and background of the Imperial Remnant (12-44 ABY, After Battle of Yavin). It sued peace with the New Republic in 19 ABY and in 28 ABY joined the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances (the New Republic successor state) to fight the Yuuzhan-Vong. Here some informations for who don't know its background:
The Imperial Remnant, known as the Remnant, the Galactic Empire, Pellaeon's Empire or just as the Empire, was the continuation of the Galactic Empire in the outer reaches of the galaxy. It survived the fragmentation and fall of the First Galactic Empire as it slipped into decades of interregnum following the death of Emperor Palpatine as none of his alleged descendants or relatives succeeded him to the throne, remaining vacant until the ascension of Emperor Jagged Fel who established a new dynasty.
As the galaxy's largest Imperial power, the Remnant was known mostly in its own borders as the Galactic Empire, and adhered to the tenets of the former Emperor Palpatine's New Order; although slavery and anti-alien sentiment were abolished, the Remnant maintained a strong military and limited public expression.

I painted a Denizen and a Ral Partha miniature as Star Wars Pirates. These true 25mm miniatures have eyes really small (about 0,5mm or even less), in fact some of the eyes I painted are unsatisfactory (maybe I will try to correct them soon or later). Now I understand because some guys don't paint the eyes but leaves them black or in the shade. ;)

I was ispired by the Star Wars Pirate Captain Leonia Tavira and her bodyguard from a background character from Crimson Empire II comic book.

I painted five pirates as thugs of Leonia. It include two classic West End Games Star Wars aliens, a Grenadier Future Warriors Scavenger a Denizen miniature Bodyguard with ACR and a West Wind Production Montgnard (painted as a green skin alien with mask). I repainted the eyes of Leonia, now they are a little better.

Leonia, probably, shouldn't be a pirate considering that she comes back later one and earlier in legends...her last role, if I remember right, was as one of the warlords, an the main antagonist for "I, Jedi"

Great thread! You really got a lot of detail into such small miniatures. They look wonderful, so much character! Thanks for posting them, I look forward to more.

Thanks :) I painted two more rebels. A "yeti" alien (fine for a star wars Akurian) and "teddy bear" alien (maybe a subspecies of ewok?). Here a picture of these aliens with the other rebel scum:

I painted two more pirates: a female near-human alien with violet skin and a small gamorrean.
Here the new miniatures (bottom left and right) with the yet painted pirates:

After a long pause (I was playing various RPGs), I finally finished to paint 5 more Imperial Troopers. Here with other yet painted troopers and officer.

I did a picture of the troopers with my painted stormtroopers in a nice background too:

PS: I bought the original West End Games (paid 10 euro) Star Wars Miniatures Battles too, maybe I will have the opportunity to use it soon or later (meanwhile I play with SOLO Pulp Alley)

Long live the Empire!

oh my, had missed this thread- just whizzed through it.
what a beautiful job you're doing on these lovely old miniatures.
I really like the Legion range - mostly because of their larger size.
But this range has got that old school character you can't beat.
-
Nice work on the AT-PT. A great centerpiece for that platoon.

Exactly!
-
Pretty much want to echo what Bloggard has said - awesome stuff.
-
I should just add re: the FFG legion range:
I was somewhat damning it with faint praise: They're superb figures; actually I would say, now that I've tried just about everything out there, one of the best ranges available imo. Plenty of character too, as far as it goes.
But this older stuff from the 80s and 90s (I think mostly?) has a look and charm all it's own. Brilliant stuff - particularly when receiving such flatteringly excellent paint-jobs as yours.
Such a shame it's not available off the shelf.
-
The Legion stuff is great looking for sure and the WEG figures are charming. What keeps me out of Legion is ironically the same thing that keeps me from WEG figures. A scale that is too notably different from the test of my 28mm collection. An issue that doesn't arise with WOTC or Imperial Assault miniatures.
