I’m in the process of making a produce garden for one of my many projects.
I thought I’d share a few ideas on making produce here.
I toyed with breaking out the modelling clay then decided...there must be a short cut here...
So, a quick look in the cupboard and on the spice rack and the following useful bits were gleaned.

Cardamom pods, rice, juniper berries, coriander seeds and putkha seeds ( these I got from Hobby craft).
A very quick paint job later.....and I now have marrows, peas or beans, tomatoes, gooseberries (or some other green fruit) and pumpkins!

They will of course look even better when “planted” in their greenery. More on that later.
Next up, how to make cabbages and lettuces.
Buy yourself some of these 10mm paper roses (ebay about Ł4 for 50)

Keep them on their stalks for now....easy to paint that way. However, you need to strip the green pointy leaf and on half of them, the bottom petals, especially for better scale or younger veg.

At this point, I’d advise putting a blob of superglue under each flower to hold it together. Once dry, paint green (or red / purple) and snip the stalk off before planting out.
There are lots of other seeds etc that can be used. Try poppy seeds sprinkled into your hedgerows for instant blackberries. Or paint them red for raspberries etc.
Once I’ve planted these out, I will share more tips ....

Genius!

That's brilliant. I shall shave a top tip from when I 'helped' my daughter with a project last year. If you have a little strip of paper and snip parallel cuts halfway down, all along its length so it look like a comb, you can roll it up in lengths to make leeks. Also, with your cabbages, a spitball (yuk!) made from white paper, chewed up and covered in pva makes a good centre for cauliflowers!
-
Like it! I was going to stick a blob of green stuff over the centre and prod it with an old toothbrush....probably get similar result with your spitball though.
-
Well done David.
If I tried painting peapods etc. they would slip out of my hands
& be lost on the floor. :D :D :D
-
Please don’t think I painted those individually! Lol. I watered a little green paint, plonked it on the little pile of rice then mixed them about until they were all green....just separating them with a scalpel so they didn’t stick whilst drying!
-
Some great ideas :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
looking forward to seeing them in your garden
Just a pity they are for 28 mm I would prefer 20 mm ideas :D
-
Which ones were the pumpkin ones?
-
putka seeds?
I bought a bag from hobby craft for my pumpkin farm used for Burrows and Badgers.
-
Very clever, you...
-
Cheers...but this is pretty simple tbh.
Cabbages or lettuces, cauliflowers ( I stuck small blob of green stuff over the centre of the flower and stipple it with a tooth brush...I think they look good ok)
-
Nice, & I hate cauliflower.
-
great :-* :-*
-
Wonderful!

I shall be stealing these ideas when I go back make some more stuff for my Lemonade Wars project.
:D
-
Yup, they are nice and simple.......here’s a WIP shot of the garden I’m working on....they work quite well.
-
Nice job! Inspirational even.
-
Good enough to eat - literally in some cases given the ingredients lol. Consider these recipes stolen.
-
Properly done gardens has always been somewhere on the To Do list; posts like this keep them there even though I've only ever gotten as far as a couple of fenced enclosures!
Great stuff, looking forward to seeing these finished.
-
That is amazing. I can't believe something can look so good from such simple ingredients.
-
Thank you kindly guys.
I’m sure there are plenty of other kitchen ingredients that could be “converted” from mustard seeds, pepper corns, caraway seeds, ....ooh and you could make great artichokes from cloves....must try that one.
Don’t forget, green stuff is also very useful.....simply roll out small blobs and you can make easy courgettes / cucumbers, melons etc without any really great gs skills.
Please feel free to add any other ideas....
-
Next up, making bean plants......I simply soaked a few pieces of string in a water/pva/paint mix and wrapped them round the poles. Stuck a little foliage to it, then glued in some of the beans...simples!

Nice work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

:o :o Superb! Thanks for all these nice ideas.
I hate cauliflower.
Boiled cauliflower can be boring. Try it fresh, tear small bits of the white part and dip in a spicy sauce while drinking apéro. ;D lol

A friend advises similar

Boil briefly or steam, then dress with olive oil, sea salt, and suitable salad herbs (fennel or tarragon are excellent); it doesn't get much tastier on this planet.
-
Ooops, seems we have been
highjacking cauliflowering the thread, sorry. ;)
Er, one suggestion, perhaps add some stems and leaves above the pumpkins? They can't just sprout out of the ground, they come from stems which crawl everywhere around and above them.
-
I know....but this is just a representation! Lol
Finished my garden.....can you spot the kitten?
-
I can't even see Bill, Ben or WEEEEEEED!
-
Well done!

Um, I should have stayed mute instead of commenting too much (as usual) ::) A friend, who knows more about gardening than I do, just told me that the gardener may have choosen to cut the stems and leaves and let the pumpkins in the sun in the garden (as you have done) for a short time to make sure they are ready. :-X :-X :D

A fantastic garden. No idea where the cat is though...
-
OMG, those look incredible!
I must copy, for my own twisted gaming use. lol

Feel free.
Syrinx, the little ginger cat is rolling on his back in the herb garden next to the greenhouse. 😉

Ah. Now I see it.
