I've got a fancy to do a little force for Captain Nemo :)
They're not really based on the novel but its more of what I fancied to do.
First two test troops have been quickly done. Perry and Copplestone Naval Brigade bodies with Perry WWII Sikh head swaps. Still looking for a suitable Nemo figure but haven't seen anything that jumps out at me yet.

And yes, there is the intention to make a Nautilus ;)
-
Nice one :o
Possible Nemo?

Ooh,nice!
Look forward to your take on the Nautilus :)

Great start
I do like the Empire of the Dead Nemo

nice start :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I have the ironclad nemo
And a more western version that came as part of a box set for nemo crew will post photos if you are interested?
-
They look the part to me mate, great work.
-
Thanks chaps :)
I think the Pulp Figures one is more fitting for a second in command and I’m not too keen on the WestWind one but thanks for the suggestions :)

Yes please :)
-
Those have come out well, the head swap works perfectly.
-
Nice 8)
-
Nice conversions James, :)
Studio Miniatures have a Sikh War officer,in full dress that may be suitable, sorry I'm hopeless at attachments/ links etc. :?
-
This will be interesting 8)
-
They work a treat youth.
-
Cheers fellas :)

I'll give them a look mate, no worries :)
youth.
lol
Not so much anymore :D
-
I suppose you are going to fob us off with a waterline Nautilus ;D
-
Nice nice.../nope it will probably be a fully operational Nautilus😉
-

I'm afraid it'll be a waterline version. As much as I'd like to do a whole one it wouldn't be very practical at the moment (going to be moving soon).
-
I really wish these had been done in 15mm. :(
Dan
-
I really wish these had been done in 15mm. :(
Dan
I am fairly sure they are just conversions that Oshiro has done for himself and not a range.
-
I really wish these had been done in 15mm. :(
Dan
You realise that these aren’t a range but conversions? He’s crafting his own as they aren’t available in the form he wants them.
-
I am fairly sure they are just conversions that Oshiro has done for himself and not a range.
lol
Great minds 8)
-
The initial crew members have all been converted and Nemo himself is on the way. Cheers to Romark for the suggestion :)
Enough for a few team variations for when we play FFoL VSF (eventually :?).
And here is the Nautilus I’ve been persuaded to make lol
It won’t be exact to this and the blue line is roughly where the waterline will be.

the waterline is too high because since your first post on this I have had a vision of your photo from outside the big round side window showing the interior - just like the Star Wars ones :D ;D :D ;D
-
Looking to seeing what you do with this
-

He’s right you know, as I said earlier. Great minds and all that. lol
-
Pleased to be of help :)
Head swops look just dandy :)
This was an inspired project, looking forward to seeing the Nautilus in due course :)
-
Thanks :)

Blah blah blah lol

Thanks :)
Blah blah blah lol
But they are right :D
-
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Jim. As for me it's one of those side tracking projects that comes to mind every time I do something VSF.
I got to agree with everyone. Your definitely coasting with that waterline . Oh no doubt it'll be pretty. But your not pushing yourself..
(That's little more than a stretched version of your aphid class hull upside down and the superstructures plonked on top plus a couple of funnels and a my little pony plonked on the front. No sweat for your cad skills. Do the windows ;D)
-
Got the man himself painted. The rest of the crew are about half done and the sub is sketched out in Rhino :)

Nicely done 8)
-
Top job on that Nemo James 😎
-
Great sculpt, great brushwork. Perfect choice!
-
Thanks chaps :)
-
That works really well. Lovely job. I reckon that is a better figure than many of the actual Nemo sculpts available.
-

Me too!
An inspired choice ;) :)

It was mate and thank you kindly for the pointer :)

No probs 👍
Looking forward to the completed Nautilus already :)
-
Love how you painted the coat :-*
-
Lovely painting and Conversions. :-* :-* :-*
This is one of those parts of this forum that i rarely visit but it appears that i have to do more often. :)
-
Cheers fellas :)
Almost, almost got the main deck drawn yesterday. With luck I’ll cut something out at the weekend :)
-
Nemo is perfect, especially the turban in white. I've seen a few Nemos done in coloured turbans (green :o etc.) but I think white works best - it's more nautical.

Nah, it should be blue. :D lol
-
Cracking figure and a nice paint job :-* :-* :-*
Looking forward to seeing where you go with this
-
The initial crew have been done. Quite pleased with how they’ve turned out. I think I’ll also use some of my naval crew for generic unarmed crewman.

I don't generally hang around the VSF boards much, but I am so glad I caught this. Absolutely wonderful idea and implementation. My favourite thing to come out of the VSF board in a long time. Can't stop looking at these pics. Did you say what the Nemo figure was? If you did I missed it somehow. Is it Studio Miniatures, perhaps?
-
Absolutely superb!
-
Top notch, sir.
-
I think they are absolutely brilliant, spot on perfect for Nemo and his crew.
-
Great head swaps :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Cheers gents :)
Is it Studio Miniatures, perhaps?
It is, the first command pack.
-
Crew looks great, inspired use of those head swops to create a truly unique looking unit 8)
-
bravo :-* :-* :-*
-
Great choices and painting - most excellent. 8)
-
Nah, it should be blue. :D lol
A Powder Blue Turban would make him an Akali Sikh and I don't think Nemo would have allowed himself to be political in that way....Nemo is actually a really complex and contradictory character...a sort of reluctant and well intentioned terrorist.
-
Thanks again fellas :)
-
Finished off four unarmed crew which will be useful in some form or another lol
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/2619-170221113207-5037823.jpeg)

Yes boss ;D :D
-
Oh damn, now I have some Perry Naval command and line in my shopping cart. lol
-
Good man lol
Finished one of the smaller subs from Flagship Games that I got in the bazaar recently. It was missing the hatch and I added the railings as well.

What does the "N" stand for?
-
What does the "N" stand for?
lol Erm,Nemo :)
“It’s a trap”.
-
That’s very smart 8)
-
Thanks chaps :)
What does the "N" stand for?
Really?
;D
-
Could be N for ‘Nautilus’ if this is a kind of tender to the main sub ;)
Very smart.
-
Lush colour scheme, looks the part! 8)
-
That's turned out very well.
-
Cheers fellas :)
Could be N for ‘Nautilus’ if this is a kind of tender to the main sub ;)
Shit, never thought of that lol
-
Splendid work all round, Jim. 8)
What did you make the railings out of on the wee sub? I was thinking of doing something similar on my Ironclad aeronef, but couldn't think of a way to do it...
-
Thanks :)
Stanchions are from here.

Plenty of other stuff available for gamers as well :D
-
Oooh, that's an hour of my day gone, then.. Thanks Jim! :)
-
lol
-
Very simple, very clean, very nice.... lovely PJ 8)
-
What does the "N" stand for?
NHS, it's the full-size prototype for a "Fantastic Voyage" project, but they can't get Raquel Welch for the crew, and it's too big to go in through a vein....
-
That scout sub is great. :-* :-* :-*
-
Should’ve said the ‘N’ stands for naughty, not quick enough ::)
And forgot to say; nice work James!
-
Awesome work, can’t wait to get a game in with them. Can they defeat the Napoleon of Crime in Limehouse?
-
Thanks again chaps :)
Can they defeat the Napoleon of Crime in Limehouse?
Another 'N'? This is going to get confusing lol
-
Ah yes, one needs a massive board with a River Thames and the East End, perhaps stretching up past St Katherine’s Dock to Tower Bridge and a jolly fine castle?
-
Got the Thames, got some docks but I am not, repeat not, making The Tower of London ;D
Maybe just a corner though :D
-
Got the Thames, got some docks but I am not, repeat not, making The Tower of London ;D

I hope you do ;) :D

Painted ten Coldstream Guards for when Nemo sails up the Thames for what ever mysterious reason he might have :D

-
I like where you are going with this project :-* :-* :-*
What's next?
-
Thanks :)
Primed another vehicle that will get some paint on it soon and have plans to do something a bit big for both this and Limehouse :D
I'll probably do another fighting unit and some more unarmed crew as I quite enjoyed doing them.
-
Nice paintjob on those guardsmen. As Colin says, I like the direction your Victorian setting is going in.
-
When will we see the next vehicle?
-
I actually quite like those figures (considering you have previously mentioned they are not the best in your view). I've seen a lot worse ;D
Black cuffs though?
-
Thanks chaps :)
When will we see the next vehicle?
Now ;D
Black cuffs though?
Hush now...
Painted up a steam engine from here https://oshiromodels.wixsite.com/oshiromodelswebshop/product-page/vsfv01-armoured-traction-engine (https://oshiromodels.wixsite.com/oshiromodelswebshop/product-page/vsfv01-armoured-traction-engine) for when Nemo has to have expeditions on terra firma.

Jolly fine work. :-*

Thanking you :)

Cracking job :-* :-* :-*
-
Fabulous and prolific work!
Thanks for the eye candy - I only wish I weren't quite so jealous.
-
Nice project indeed.
-
Thanks again :)
-
I'm loving this thread!
But now I am cursing a missed opportunity. It just came to me that when I was enquiring about your leader figure, what I should have said was,
"How did you go about finding Nemo?"
(Sorry! Also sorry because I didn't recheck the thread to see if somebody else already made that joke.)
-
I have a different question - I was in such a state of awe that I hesitated posting it - but how do you make your blue so blue? It's so beautiful it hurts. How many layers have you used?
-
Cheers :)
"How did you go about finding Nemo?"
Get your coat lol
but how do you make your blue so blue? It's so beautiful it hurts. How many layers have you used?
All GW paints. Abaddon Black, Night Lords Blue, Kantor Blue, Thousand Sons Blue. All slightly thinned down (my spellchecker hates GW paints lol ).
-
Thanks ! Will give it a try, I still have my old Flagship games submersibles (the very early version)
-
Nice work, but can it outrun Nemo’s steam conveyance in LXG?
-
No chance. It can barely outrun a walking figure lol
-
Well, Nemo needs something to fight against and what better than a giant octopus :D
Went for a gloss finish which always looks slightly worse in photos. The water is a decent match for my sea mat though :)

It’s delughtful James. 8)
Slightly off topic but will you be doing a more lo-fi Victorian submarine?

Please tell me that you're decalling or some other kind of 'cheat' for those Ns..... cos if they're freehand I may have to kneecap you ;)
-
Thanks chaps :)

Yes and it'll be in the catalogue over the summer :)

Nemo is doing some island hopping :D
The three smaller ones I’ve had for a while but I tarted them up this evening to match the big one that was done recently. I’ve got a couple of corner ones as well and they were all originally going to be used for Scarif but this way they get double usage :)
Need some tribal types and dinos sorting out now lol

Proper VSF. Love it.

Cracking work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Or should that be Kraken lol
-
If you want the generic tribals, the Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago ones are rather good for that and at a good price for what you get
-
I don't know how I missed this James! WOW! :o The whole thing looks great, but those subs...... wowsah.
-
Great work mate, very Sharp looking!

Really superb! Great looking VSF (and not a cog in sight!).

Those islands would work great as some SW Skariff terrain too. Great work buddy!
-
Cheers mate :)
I got some 'Lemurians' from Antedeluvian Miniatures a short while ago (and will be getting more in the new year) as I thought they would be good opponents for Nemo in his adventures.
I've also got an anklyosaurus that I'm going to kit out with a howdah :D

Yeah, muskets, spears and dinos ain't no good against a 32 pounder lol

Any particular reason for the unpainted feet, Jim? Are they supposed to be trudging through dust?

Nice :-* :-* :-*

Stunning!
Dan

Thanks :)

Nice work James. I do like the Lemurian figures
-
lovely work.

Cracking stuff 8) 8) 8)

Cheers again :)
Got some more in the post but it’ll be a week or two before I get round to them. I will be converting one into a standard bearer which should make a nice addition.

James, a technical question: How did you make the railings? Beautiful looking sub, by the way.

Hi, Dan.
That's the Shark submersible formally from Flagship games. You were asking Mark from Scale Creep about it on TMP in 2011. I was searching for images to refresh my memory. :D
I don't think Scale Creep supply them anymore; I was going to point out the 'superstructure' as being way off scale for 15's, but you already asked, and had confirmed, they were separate from the hull.
TLDR, occasionally but seldom seen used: Breath holding contraindicated. Keep an eye pealed for a Minnow, the Shark's baby, one piece brother; might appeal even more, scale-wise.
Don't blames you for wanting one; James always makes things look so DAMN tasty.
Doug
Edit: Late breaking news! I was looking around Scale Creep, and, under Martian Empires' vehicles, I found a Minnow. No image, can't say if it is the same Minnow, or perhaps 'Eel', Dan, but you might check it out. https://scalecreep.com/product_info.php?products_id=9901 (https://scalecreep.com/product_info.php?products_id=9901)

Doug
Thanks so much! I’ll place the order now.

Just stumbled into this thread and find the Captain and crewmen quite lovely and very nautical. Also really dig the sea monster.
Are you going to do some crew kitted out for underwater work? Seems a proper addition.
And, though I know you said you weren't necessarily following the story entirely - or even closely perhaps - it does seem you need Cyrus Harding, Top the dog, Neb, Gideon Spitt, Pencroft (truly!), and Herbert. Adding in that lot really expands your gaming 'story' and scenario options. Of course, then you may want to add a crashed hot air balloon, too.
(Oh, if not readily recognized, those are the principle characters in Jules Verne's Mysterious Island - who encounter and ride around with Captain Nemo in the Nautilus as his "guests".)
And for Cacquie Caribe (hope I spelled that right): if you are not already aware, check out Rebel Minis Nemo Heavy Infantry for underwater work in 15 mm, link: https://www.rebelminis.com/nehein.html (https://www.rebelminis.com/nehein.html). I have some to form a unit of Nemonauts - awaiting paint. (Something similar would be great for OSHIRO if he goes that route and they are available in his figure size, too.)
Again, lovely work on the miniatures.
-
Doug
Thanks so much! I’ll place the order now.
Dan
Crickies! I meant drop Mark a line to get more info!
*sigh* If it disappoints, let me know, and I'll take it off your hands. Now I feel responsible, though I'm sure I'd find a use.
Now, back to the adoration of James' work, already in progress...
Doug

Just coming back to this thread and looking at the mini-subs and there is something that bothers me - as a former US Navy man - those lines in the stanchions are WAY too white and clean. Even the best boatswains mate on the planet couldn't keep them that clean! Especially with all the time they spend underwater. ;)
Now, where is that long promised larger waterline version of the Nautilus? (Wrong size for me but I still want to see it painted up.)
-
Introducing the Brotherhood of Thoth!
Took me a while to think of another antagonist for Nemo and I came across the VSF Egyptian faction from NorthStar and the Professor figure struck me as a good leader type. I wasn’t keen on the cloaked figures so went for something a bit more mundane and VSF with the Perry Egyptians from their Sudan range.
And what’s a bit of VSF without some tech :D
This is the pulp robot from Crooked dice but I thought it would fit and added a small boiler on the back to enhance the VSFness of it. I also magnetised the hands and weapons. I’ve decided to call him ‘Tutt’ lol
In game terms it won’t be that powerful and will have a tendency to break down but that will be a result of the arcane powers used to control and manipulate it :D

It’s nice to do smaller factions instead of aiming for large armies for a change lol
-
Loving the new faction mate! 👍
-
They look great and Tutt is rather cute despite not being reliable.
-
Great idea to use those Perry Egyptians for your brotherhood of Tutt ! lol
-
Very cool job on the robot. The boiler on the back is a great addition for VSF.
-
Thanks again fellas :)

Good work all round 8)

Nice ones. :-* :-*

Thoth faction is fantastic (in both senses of the word)!

Thanks chaps :)

No flying things for this faction?
-
Yes, I think there will be but I want to sort the design out properly first as I might add it to the webshop.

I'll be doing a little Sinbad project in the near future and part of that will be a series of modular caves but I thought it would be good to combine the two and do some as a lair for Nemo. They are 200mm square 2mm mdf. There is a 'doorway' cut in each wall but these can be sealed up to allow for different options (T-junction, 90 degree turns etc). It's easier just to cut every wall with an opening and fill it in after rather than think about what goes where.
I'll be doing some sort of simple cliff frontage that I can use for Star Wars (Nevarro) and Sinbad. I've also got a decent sea matt (see earlier posts) but these photos only have blue card. Bigger 'rooms' will be done, mostly generic but some specific. I reckon I can also do some of these for Star Wars with the right doorways/tech details etc.

I like that a lot. I also very much like how you’re building it to suit a multitude of projects

Many thanks chaps, greatly appreciated :)

Even with what I said to Frank in his Rome thread I have to think about space now lol

Fantastic lair, sub and crew! Thank you for sharing!

Only if you swap it for all those medieval figures you’ve just posted :D

That's actually rather tempting..... it is lovely :-*

Lovely job on Nemo´s lair. :-* :-* :-*

Hmm, inspiration for my own Nemo-esque situation. Have the figures. Need to build the sub. Already planning a secret base but a 'lair' might be fun.
Nice work as always.
Man, do I get the storage issue. For reasons unknown, wife won't dispose of half of her belongings to grant me more room for my toys.
-
Brilliant Jim. :-*
And don't u dare talk about a storage issue - I told my wife YOU said it was normal to stack terrain in the fridge!
-
Oh, beautifully done!
-
Thanks :)

It is though isn’t it o_o lol

Lovely work on the lair. I thoroughly approve of multi-use terrain, so using the final cave system for VSF, Star Wars and Sinbad certainly ticks that box :-*

Fantastic 8) 8) 8)

The whole project is fantastic.

excellent stuff, for the lair I look forward to the pipe organ... :D

Cheers :)

Ah, now that is good idea 8)

I will say perspective played me foul.
In the vertical triptych, I focused on the center image, where the crane almost appears on the wall, reaching over the pool.
"Oh, damn, he's included a carrying handle..." ::)

Now that the big work for Gradara is over I can get going on a bot of my own stuff again :)
Quick terrain test, a beastie and a diver for some underwater fun. I've used the same uniform colours on the diver as on the land based troops and I think it works.
I've kept 'stuff' off the base of the diver as there's a chance they will be on land on in Nemos lair.

Lovely :-* :-* :-*
Where is the shark from?
-
Looking good so far, I particularly like the Tiger shark markings. :)
-
Thanks chaps :)
Colin, he's from HLBSC and they've got a few suitable beasties now.
-
Nice job on those 👍
-
The diver looks great, but the shark is :-*
-
You may need a second diver for action ashore. That one would need a coat of gloss varnish obviously. Thus you can add underwater dressing on this one‘s base at will. :D
Great miniatures and paintjobs!

Cheers fellas :)

That's a great idea, although I doubt I'll do it I' afraid lol

Lovely work and wonderful thread.
Thanks for sharing your work.
