Yeah, I'm pretty happy with those as well, i have to admit. :D Nothing too fancy or clever, but it works. I painted them right before a solo game two years ago, when I decided that I need some more terrain on the table.

Right, last night I got the next three Marvel Crisis Protocol figures: Ultron, Loki and Hela. Ultron and Loki I've even seen in films! So yeah, I'll see that I can get working on those three soon.

Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on May 02, 2021, 08:10:06 PM: Thank you! :) I don't use GW paints much due to my dislike of their absurd pots. Not entirely sure, but I used Schmincke, Vallejo, Scalecolor, Coat d'Arms and some Golden on these. Oh, and Army Painter washes.

I sure hope that this one's a good guy, because he's really tall and looks super strong. Hope you like him and his chair!

I think the size is generally 35mm, but of course we're talking superhumans, aliens and whatnot, so most will be taller. Ultron (conveniently standing very upright) measures about 60mm from foot to eye. Captain America was about the 35mm mark (foot to eye), Ironman was taller, Thor of course is well taller. If I was to guess I'd say Spiderman (weirdly) is taller too, but he's standing weirdly. So basically nobody's collection of terrain and whatnot will fit that newly made size (to my knowledge).

Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight (incidently, the two names I chose for myself if I was a male or female stripper)

All pretty big people I have to say. Black Dwarf is huge, that's a given (about Hulk-sized). But so are all the others! It's crazy. Pretty sexy to paint though.

:D Thanks very much! To be fair, I didn't do much colour choosing, as the order is "Paint them like the pictures in the webstore (but nicer)". In this case I think the colours worked well in my favour since shiny black always looks sexy, and the combination of nice textur-y skin and hard, edgy NMM metal is just a winner. ;) But thanks very much, I appreciate the compliments!

@commanderkaiser: Cheers! A friend of mine just got into the game and within record time is building a board specifically for the game. Interesting stuff. Just be aware that these are big, big figures compared to regular 28s!

The direct sunlight eats away at the effect, but I hope you get a general impression.

Right now I'm preparing Carnage, Venom (I'm so lame, I couldn't remember the name and I had to search "spiderman baddie topher grace". Don't tell anybody! :D ), Gamora and Nebula for painting, so stay tuned for updates soon!

I'm willing to admit that there are superfans who are more well versed in the multiverse of the Marvels than I am, but if there's one superhero I can always identify AND name correctly it's Silver Surfer. Not so much Jeremy Renner, Scarlet Romanova, Dr. Teleport and Night Cat, all of whom I also got here and will get to as soon as I can. :)

It's an 28mm kit, but will fit even the oversized MCP figures quite well. And it blocks line of sight, so that's good, right?

@Daeothar: Thanks very much! It's all metallics with minimal shading and highlighting. It was mostly an exercise in doing as little as possible, because meddling too much would have dulled the look I think. He's supposed to be an all shiny silvery dude (almost like liquid metal or mercury), which meant that I didn't want to see any brush strokes (if possible) or anything looking too "worked" on the surface. So overall: Yeah, metallics (not just my choice, but also the customer's. In general I use lots of NMM on these Marvel figures, because I think it fits the style, with just very few exceptions like Ultron and Thanos so far), with very careful little things done, like the blue reflections, some subtle shading and some highlights using very bright metal over white dots and slashes. All very delicate stuff, because the guy's supposed to have no texture to him at all. I think I said the same thing three times over now with different words. :D Oh well. But I hope I got the idea acros. Bascially: it's tricky.

@syrinx0: Cheers! Yeah, I like it too. And it's just cheap as chips for this pretty large piece of terrain. Means of course loads of work, but when it's done it's done. :)

@Daeothar: Thanks, Sir! I think I mentioned it on this thread before - I'm not hugely into the Marvel Cinematic Universe films or into superhero comics. :D It would be wrong to pretend I was. I enjoy painting these figures for the figure game, but it's all commission workl. However, there are two Marvel films I love: Blade (obviously) and Punisher:Warzone. Great hero, effective, classic story, baddies who are evil, but endless fun (the actors seem to have loads of fun too, given how they work those accents and the). It's got a very classic 80s/early90s action film vibe. It's not subtle, but it rocks. I can watch Punisher:Warzone over and over, which makes the Punisher and Blade probably my favourite Marvel characters. I also kinda like the concept of Captain America, because I like daft good guys.

@syrinx0: That suit very much is the result of a "less is more" approach. Looking at the guy, he's basically ...well, a round shape. So lighter/brighter on top, right down to the equator, less bright below that, and then some slight shades/highlights on the folds. That would be the general approach. I wouldn't even mess around with washes or anything, that only leads to splodges. (in fact, I clumsily managed to produce a splodge on his sleeve or something, which was rahter laboursome to neaten up again). And as always when dealing with large surfaces: If you feel desperation kicking in, paint some details like the buttons, block out the skin parts and the black shirt (even highlight the black shirt if you want) and so on to get a better perspective of what the big (in this case white) surface looks like. All of a sudden little imperfections will mostly disappear because the eye is drawn to the contrast point/other colours.
