Interesting blog and I like the alternative history idea, it's a war that could have happened.

You did well to bring up the colour, deep blues are always difficult to get right under camera light.

I tend to use something lighter than prussian blue, citadel ultramarines with a couple of washes of army painter blue tone seems to do the trick.
