I've been here a while, but I thought I'd write something for this section. So here goes!
I'm Misneach, I'm a wargamer from the South East of Ireland, and I'm a Celtic Civilisation university student. I've been interested in wargaming for almost as long as I can remember!
I started out playing Warhammer 40K, but didn't stick with it. History is a passion of mine, so I prefer historical gaming and other fantasy and SF games. Unfortunately this means less opponents (especially here in Ireland), but I'm so lucky to have some friends who play HOTT/DBA (over Zoom at the moment).
I'm interested in a lot of different genres and periods. Ancients, mythological, VSF, Blood Bowl, Kings of War and a lot of other games. I usually paint models that appeal to me, rather than necessarily building armies.
The next project I hope to do is the Spanish Civil War in 15mm. I think I'll paint both sides and play it solo.
Thanks for reading my ramble,
Misneach 8)

Welcome :)

Welcome!
Spanish Civil War is an interesting period. I'm using it as inspiration for an alternative history Ireland project in 10mm, in a similar vein as the "A Very British Civil War" alt history, mostly focused around my own province of Ulster but with an eye to the whole island in time.

Sounds really interesting! VBCW looks like a great setting, especially in Ireland. I hope I can get to see your project!

Thanks, I've a few background posts on my blog, e.g.

Have had it to the side since the summer but just this past week or so been getting back into it.
What rules are you planning for SCW? I'm looking at using Blitzkrieg Commander IV. They recently released a SCW supplement that I've used for inspiration. Might look at some skirmish rules for smaller actions too.

Take a look at Osprey's 'World Aflame' Written by Paul Eaglestone (Empress
Miniatures) Provides an enjoyable skirmish game. A big chunk of the fun is
making your own set of incident cards. These can add a local feel to your games.
I might have, 'Football result, Pompey win 3:0. Your unit gets +2 on morale this turn'
You could have, 'Shinty result....'.

I'm still not sure. Crossfire looks appealing, it seems very original. I have been looking at A World Aflame too. Does AWA work well solo?

Ah yes I've seen some crossfire videos and does seem interesting. Needs a lot of terrain though!

Not much experience with Solo gaming, so can't comment on its suitability.
I am sure that an intelligent gent like yourself would be able to make it work.

Fáilte Misneach.
Good luck with the Spanish Civil War project. I imagine its a very interesting period to research and wargame, with so many troop types, factions and drama.

Welcome! Have you been in touch with the Munster Wargames Group? I have played some enjoyable 15mm Ancients games with club members in the past. https://vymaps.com/IE/Munster-Wargames-Group-200230900161605/ (https://vymaps.com/IE/Munster-Wargames-Group-200230900161605/)

Last year I had hoped to move to Cork for university, but Covid restrictions have meant I can't for now. I'd really like to as soon as I can! I'd love to play more ancients games
