Title: From Burma to Normandy - a few AFV projects finished off
Post by: TacticalPainter on February 26, 2021, 01:52:48 AM
I've had the airbrush out and so tried to clear some of the back log on the shelf of shame - all those projects started but never finished. These are all 1/72 from the Plastic Soldier Company.

An M4A4 Sherman V for my British in Burma, crew figure from AB and stowage from Value Gear.

A Churchill AVRE petard mortar. The PSC kit gives you the option to make on of these.

Next up was time for something a bit more exciting than plain old green. I wanted to try a few different techniques for German camouflage. First was ambush camouflage on a Panther. It needs a hard edged tritonal camouflage which I created using Silly Putty (flexible like Blu Tac but less sticky and easier to use).

Next a PzIVH. I have done the spider web cammo before but done that freehand. This time I wanted to try it with a harder edge. The hatch is open for a figure but for now this is one of the rather horrible PSC crew figures that looks hunched and uncomfortable in that pose. I've run out of AB crew figures so will need to place an order soon.

You've done a cracking job on these.
I really like your choices on all of these but there's something in the finish on that Sherman that really stands out and makes it look particularly authentic.
Inspiring stuff!

Thanks. They are all from the Plastic Soldier Company.

Great work sir! I agree about the PSC crew chaps and tend to replace them with a sculpted upper body and a Peter Pig head in 15mm to make them fit with my infantry’s aesthetic. The looming pile of shame (my entire lead/plastic/resin mountain) is sometimes more daunting than motivating but it’s always good to move some of its residents to the gaming table. What’s next up?

Next up is the 10/12mm project, which is coming along.

While the airbrush is in use I’ve been working in both scales.

I’d be interested in learning what you used for the German cami color wise and brands. Great stuff.

All paints Tamiya, shot through an airbrush. The base is Dark Yellow. Green is Dark Green 2 and Brown is a mix of Red Brown and NATO Brown. All have been colour modulated, then filtered and weathered, so not quite the original colour.

Here’s the Panther with paint before the filter and other effects.

All good, but the Burma Sherman is my favourite.
If you had told me it was 1/35th I would have believed you.

What a great set of vehicles, they look really sharp.

Are the 10/12mm figures and tanks the Victrix ones?

Yes, all from Victrix and very nice they are too.

Thanks, I could be very tempted by the infantry to round out my Germans. I’m in no real need of more of the AFVs.
