Post by: 10thMountain on March 05, 2021, 08:38:17 AM
Hello,
Are there any 28mm miniatures for the Pacific War of 1879?
Thank you

Miniature Figurines ( owned by Caliver Books) produce a small 28mm range. Outpost Wargame Services produce a bigger range in 15mm and Pendraken produce a 10mm range.  I will confess I have been tempted as it is a "bit different"  and I am intrigued by the rules "Its Getting a Bit Chile"......

You might also look for ACW and Franco-Prussian lines for figures that would be close enough, at least for Chilean and Peruvian figures. Bolivians are harder to do, but they were out of the picture after a couple battles.

Having looked at my Osprey MAA book on the topic  I would agree on the potential use of both ACW and Franco--Prussian War. I also think some of the Perry's "War of the Triple Alliance" figures would suit admirably.  I believe Perry's might be on the verge of bringing out Franco-Prussians as plastic boxed sets so maybe look at their ACW and Triple Alliance figures to ensure scale compatability.

Greve Moller's book on the uniforms of the war is an excellent source, worth getting. As has been said ACW and FPW French should cover a variety of the forces, as well as the Triple Alliance figures in kepi or shako.

You might need a bit of greenstuff for shako covers or the scarf a lot of Peruvian troops used, but the real difficulty will probably be finding figures in sandals I think. Gringo's Maximillian Adventure range has a few in kepi who might work, but it seems like he's abandoned that range so yes looks like you'd need a lot of mix & match.

Try Old West mexicans for some of the ununiformed Bolivian forces and civilians raised to defend e.g. Lima. One or two of the Chilean units wore cristino forage caps so you might find some figures in the perry Carlist War range, although the weaponry etc wouldn't match so depends how closely you want to inspect it all!
