After Joe McCullough confirmed on his blog, that the next Oathmark supplement (Bane of Kings) will include chariots for all races, inspiration hit me like ligthning (and pause my resolution, that I dont start anything new, untill most of my old stuff is not completed...). I started to design and make chariots for my sons dwarves (as they have no mounted units at all) and for my other sons goblins (as they have no heavy mounted units). I think, that my humans dont really need chariots (because of their heavy cavalry), and my wives elves neither (they also have armoured cavalry, and im not skilled enough to make beautiful elven things...). So I started crafting, but now Im stuck a bit... I can build the body of the chariot, more or less as I wanted, but there are 2 points, where I want to ask for this communities help:
1. Wheels: I only could make full wheels (so not with spokes), but Im not really convinced, that they fit well. Yes, I could buy wheels from various manufacturers, but they mostly would come from the UK, and posting is now an issue... So, do anybody has any hints, how could I make spoked wheels with approximately 20mm diameter?
2. Carriage animals: I want to use giant wolves for the goblins, but what for the dwarves? Except horses, because I dont want horses, they are not dwarfy enough... I would love rams or boars there, but where to get them? Any other ideas?

I know, its too big, but I wanted to fit 2 miniatures with 25mm round base in it, so it wont need own minis, and characters also can use it.

1) Do NOT attempt to make your own wheels, that way lies madness and a possible lobotomy followed by being smothered with a pillow by your large Native American friend. Just look at cheap kids' toys with wheels - you'll find something eventually. OR go with ... skis! Northern Dwarves with a winter-theme. It's a winner.
2) Obviously animals for Dwarves are bears, but other options might include various oxen (Highland cattle? Musk ox?), shaggy ponies or something interesting from prehistory. Again, kids' toys might yield inexpensive and accessible results for you.

Wot Cubs said, plus look at buttons. Haberdashery depts. & the likes of Craftworld
(or any Craft type outlet) store lots of variety. Some wonderful ornate ones that
could provide a source of wheels.
When I was very young & wanted 'proper; wheels for my Airfix British chariots,
but couldn't afford Bob O'Brien's suggestion of using the ACW artillery ones (I
needed them for ACW !!!) my wonderful mother suggested buttons. She also
was the one to suggest painting the spokes on to some flat buttons she donated.
Paint the top half of the button to match the chariot sides, & the bottom half dark
(Black or very dark brown) to match the shadow under the chariot, then the spokes in
some nice bright colour. Job done.

Using buttons is a good idea, but unfortunately not for spoked wheels.
I could look for cheap toys, but I dont really like shopping, and I cant find very cheap ones online.
But these wheels are so cheap, I couldnt withstand, and ordered them. Lets see how long the shipping will take.

Lego carriage wheels are tough as nails and will do in a pinch if you put something spiky in the middle :D lol

Mantic has a market set that includes a cart with good wheels to repurpose. You’d also get other odds and ends for terrain and objectives, so that’s a plus.
Reaper has a Dire Boar in their Bones line that would probably work well with your cart. I’d get two.

Thanks, very useful size comparison! I would vote for this dire boar (it looks good, and its also available), but my son has to decide :).
I already ordered wheels from Irregular Miniatures, because its pretty cheap: 20 wheels in 3 different sizes for aroun 8€ with shipping.

Look forward to seeing how it looks when you put everything together....are you thinking of a slow-ponderous almost wagon-like “chariot”, or is it going to end hurtling across the battlefield, with the crew holding on for dear life?

For the dwarves, I want a massive, more sophisticated chariot, which was inspired by viking boats (obviously). The goblins will get a more improvised look, with a lot of spikes and skulls, which is just a bit safer for its crew, then for their enemy :). Im also curious about the results :D.

What about Elasmotheriums(prehistoric horned animal). Victorious miniatures do some. Worth a look.

Bears, Rams, Springboks and Rhinos might work too. Bears and shaggy sheep/goats tend to be upland/mountainous animals so this might fit with the Dwarf aesthetic?

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen at least one other laser cut building manufacturer that also makes wagon wheels that might work for chariots. They tend not to be quite as detailed as cast metal wheels, but should be less expensive.
I’m looking forward to seeing the chariots you come up with!

Thanks for the hints! Prehistoric animals certainly could work, but my son seems to be fixed on boars (for now :)).

I already ordered some good looking (hopefully, because there is no product picture, but the other carriages look good) and pretty cheap wheels from Irregular miniatures. Lets see, how long it takes to arrive here... MDF wheels are cheaper, but cast options are also cheap enough.

There are some burrs, but nothing too wild. I think for 4,4£+postage its very well worth its price.

Those wheels look really nice! I have some in a similar style (https://arcanesceneryandmodels.co.uk/shop/trent-miniatures-small-spoked-wheels-wargames-24mm/) by Trent Miniatures, and the castings are lovely.
Any idea where I could find some metal cast wheels that are "solid" timber wheels of similar sizes? Everywhere seems to have spoked, and I can't find solid ones anywhere.

Just a thought about solid wheels. You could use buttons.
Strips of paper glued on, left to dry, then trimmed. Paint
up as wood.
OR
Thin layer of Miliput (or similar) smeared over the button,
then (before it dries) 'draw' on the wood detail with a
sharp pencil. When dry any 'bolts' holding it together
can be created with 3d effect paint.

I can make my own with Plasticard, but as my time is more limited these days, and the models I want the wheels for are themselves metal, I think it would be more robust if the wheels were cast metal too.

I could find only 1 Reaper dire boar, maybe it was the last one in Europe... So the dwarven chariots are on hold (I making a small, with only 1 boar).
But I made great progress with the goblin ones:

I do wish that the wolves from the goblin wolf rider set were available separately to purchase; they are even on separate sprues, so I would have thought it was possible.
