Title: Stargrave Crews
Post by: Thargor on March 11, 2021, 09:02:15 PM
Using the "leaked" crew generator table I made up a crew for Amhucdhubh, an independent freighter.

Most of the crew are Mantic's Deadzone Rebs.  The Captain (6th from left) is Another World Miniatures' Anjelika Steampunk Female Commissar.  The Sniper (3rd from left) is Manufaktura Miniatures' Post Apocalyptic Sniper.

The integral bases will be snipped off and replaced with round, clear acrylic, 25mm bases for gaming.

That's a salty-looking bunch.

Hmmm... should one call space crews "salty"?  What would the space-y equivalent be?

Anyway, they look tough.

 8) way cool crew!!!

Excellent!

I admit I'm looking forward to Stargrave and my Mantic Star Saga and Deadzone figures will most likely make up the bulk of the crew''s "alien" elements.

I have Battle Systems terrain and mats too so I should be all set for it when it arrives.

As a solo player (and aren't we all now), I will have to wait until September for the official Billy No Mates rules unless I carry over the solo stuff from Frostgrave, which should be possible.

Thanks. It looks like I can build a Stargrave crew from the crew of the Lazy Susan, that I've just finished :)

The Lazy Susan was a free trader (aka smuggler) prior to the war. As well as their pre-war role of transporting valuable goods and passengers, the crew have more recently developed a specialisation in 'pre-emptive salvaging'. The captain is a Rogue, with a Veteran as first mate.

Most of the crew are Blue Moon spacemen, supplemented by figures from the Bombshell Counterblast range (available from West Wind in the UK - not cheap, but they fit in perfectly with the Blue Moon sculpts). I may modify the weapons on a couple of figures, but I'll worry about that once I've read the rules and worked out what skills and gear I want to assign to my captain and first mate.

Are Blue Moon spacemen Cobalt-1 or Cobalt 1 adjacent? Who carries the Cobalt -1 mercs these days? Bob Olley looks like he dropped the ones he had and Black Hat isn't selling minis online anymore.

Where they go?

Great looking crew Bullshott.

@mweaver - thanks.  I almost called their ship The Salty Dog, but changed it to Scottish Gaelic for The Black Pig.

@LiamFrostfang- thanks.

@pauld - thanks.  I think the Mantic terrain will work well for Stargrave (it's been sitting in the box unbuilt since the KS)  and I've just bought into a KS by Tinker Turf as well.

@Battle Brush Sigur - thanks.  I loved these Rebs from first seeing them on KS.

@Black Burt - thanks for that, I had seen the Crew pages, but not the rest ... time to flesh out the backstory for this crew I think.

Bridge Miniatures has the Cobalt stuff these days, along with the Shattered Isles fantasy stuff Black Hat used to sell too:

Does anyone know of if Bridge Miniatures are still trading? Their webstore appears ok, but they haven't responded to emails. I have some of the old Cobalt figures and would like sone more, as are compatible with my crew.

Good question, I emailed them about a week ago asking when they might re-stock on the Kev Adams gobbos. Haven't heard anything back yet, but honestly 1 week's radio silence isn't that unusual with hobby suppliers so I've not chased it up yet

About 6 years ago I bought into Mantic's Deadzone through a KS.  The crew on page 1 were just a few of the figures received...here are some more; The Enforcers.  In Deadzone these guys are the Corporation's military arm, enforcing quarantine on planets where plague has broken out...eradicating all trace of the contagion.  In Stargrave, these could be a more "professional" crew or "wandering encounters" for when crews draw too much attention, by not getting in and out fast enough...

Loads of Stargrave compatible figures and scenery pieces.

I'm at work, so can't provide a link, sorry

The only company I had a bad experience with unfortunately & I've ordered miniatures from companies and sellers all over the world for the past 20 years! Ordered from them on 16-03-2019 and despite numerous emails and phone calls I never got my order  :(
It wasn't a large order so I just chalked it down to experience. Those Cobalt figs looked so good too!

Certainly should, I dug mine out.  Those salvage tool figs are perfect for crew with "picks" - ie tools for recovering physical loot.  McCullough might have been envisioning actual lockpicks and bolt cutters, but I prefer something more visually obvious.

That whole range was also sculpted by Bob Naismith, so no surprise they look similar.  They're also insanely inexpensive (40% off!) if you're an Old Glory Army member, and you can even ask for a free set of them as your bonus for joining up.  I've done quite  afew of them over the years, they're really a pleasure to work with.

You can also find some more of his work under the Superfigs tab, with the Alien Host and Henchmen subcategoroes being particularly handy for troopers.

Well, agreed, but other than Bridge I don't think any of the former producers actually folded, they just sold the range on to others.  IIRC they started life at Westwind/Old Glory, then went to Black Hat who sold them to Bridge when they decided to get out the casting end things and focus on supplies.  Even Bridge isn't officially OOB, just gone dark.

Certainly a shame they aren't available right now, Stargrave would have been a sales booster for them, no doubt.
