Hello LAF friends :)
Well, after 40+ years wargaming, painting, modelling, criticising from the safety of the sidelines, and vowing never to become a wannabe lead baron, I’ve finally succumbed lol.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to my new (distinctly bijou) line of 28mm figures for the English Civil War - Bloody Miniatures. (How could I call it anything else? ;))
It’s a range conceived to bring a dash of added personality to existing ECW / TYW collections, or provide characterful figures for skirmish games.
Bloody Miniatures are the work of the brilliant Nick Collier, original sculptor of the enduringly popular Bicorne and Renegade ECW ranges. If there’s anyone better than Nick at capturing the character of fighting men of this period, I haven’t come across him. The brief was pretty much to make them ooze with character. I think he's risen to the task.
Those existing excellent ranges contain huge numbers of rank and file models in a variety of drill-type poses - perfect for recreating big battles set in that era, but perhaps slightly less suited to the minor scrimmages, sieges, raids and sallies which typified warfare of the period. Bloody Miniatures complement these existing ranges perfectly, providing a seamless fit in size, style and stature, with extra helpings of charisma and period flavour 8)
They're designed with the ECW in mind, but TYW arms, armour, and dress were broadly the same. The figures are also eminently suitable for New World colonial conflicts like the Powhatan and Pequot Wars of the 1630s - 1640s, and for C17th 'folk horror' settings / rules like 'Witchfinder General'.
The first four packs are available now at bloodyminiatures.co.uk (http://bloodyminiatures.co.uk). The next four packs are already in the pipeline, and more will follow.
I've been known to criticise wargames manufacturers' websites (:D) for a dearth of decent pictures and clear info, so hope I've managed to do a better job myself!
Here are a few pics. I hope you like them :)
(And a size comparison shot against various other manufacturers).

Awesome!
These are definitely on the Wants list!
-
Awesome, indeed! Congratulations and best of luck with your new endeavour 8)
-
They are truly stunning, superbly animated, believable poses, a breath of fresh air to see such dynamic movement in miniatures. :-* ;D
I hope they prove extremely popular and you take your place among the finest of the Lead Barons. :)
-
Awesome, indeed! Congratulations and best of luck with your new endeavour 8)
Seconded! 8)
-
Small order on the way! Just a couple of packs but I can't order more for the moment!
-
They are just what was needed, a great idea to go with skirmising figures! Totally agree about Nick Collier's sculpts for the period. The size comparison with other ranges is extremely useful too. Bicorne and Renegade are my favourite ECW ranges and these will compliment them perfectly.
I can't wait to see the range develop.
-
What a great idea :-*
I hope that you are successful with this.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Small order on the way! Just a couple of packs but I can't order more for the moment!
Thank you Antonio. I’ll get them out to you this week, and hope you won’t get caught up with import duties etc, and the post Brexit mess ::)
-
Great website too, really clear information, easy to navigate and some lovely eye candy and clear images of the figures. It’s the little things that make a difference and it’s obvious you’re fully aware of that.
Very best of luck, you’re off to a great start and I’m sure it’ll grow from strength to strength
-
Good luck with your new venture. Your web site still needs a few things to make it DSR compliant but other than that it looks very professional.
-
Brilliant!
:-* :-*
Best of luck with this, Baron Richard the Bloody, although you probably wont be needing it judging by the first releases.
:)
You also have the added bonus of having a pretty decent painterly type to colour them in for you.
;)
-
Lovely minis
Top PJs
Nice, clear website
And a major 'hats off' for taking the possible risk by putting your own hand in your pocket to get these released rather than going down the ubiquitous Kickstarter route 8)
-
Thanks lads :)
Appreciate the support.
-
Not really into ECW but these are fantastic! Might have to grab a pack or two! Good luck in your new enterprise!
-
Lots of luck with the new venture.
I just placed an order. Bit surpised they are not plastic though. ;) :)
-
Fantastic start to your new venture and I wish it all the best.
-
Another LAFer of the Ancien Régime becomes a lead baron! Nicely done, and good luck!
-
Thanks gents :)
Lots of luck with the new venture.
I just placed an order. Bit surpised they are not plastic though. ;) :)
Haha. Thank you so much, Malcolm. These just had to be metal, to fit in with Mr Collier's wonderful pre-existing ouevre ;)
-
Order for Company of Wolves sent, & signed up for e-mails.
Congrats on your new venture.
I wish they came painted like yours.
Looking forward to future releases, are you taking suggestions?
Or are you going to give us teasers?
-
Great to see this range launched. They're marvellous figures and really fill a gap in the Bicorne / Renegade ranges, so I'm sure they'll sell like hot cakes.
-
Lovely mininiatures, with a great painting work!
-
Thank you gents :)

Congrats on your new venture.

Thank you :)
Hope to get the initial wave of orders out early this week.
I have scoped out the first 16 packs, but I'm not planning on releasing details until they're imminent. I'd rather not get people's hopes up and then have to disappoint them!
The whole design, sculpting, moulding, casting process with all its many to's and fro's takes several months alas. That said, assuming this first release goes well, then I'm hopeful of getting a second release out later this year, but no promises.
As soon as I have a firm likely date, I'll provide full details of what they're going to be. But I can definitely say another 16 characterful ECW/TYW era figures, and not your run-of-the-mill pikemen and musketeers. A much more interesting and varied selection :)
-
Brilliant - somebody else pointed me to the website and I thought - " I know whop painted those" and then wondered if it might be your own range
Best wishes on your venture
I shall [place an order this evening when I get home fro work!
-
Great moi Capitan! No one other is the right man for this! Go on !
-
I’ve managed to avoid collecting ECW ever since I started reenacting it...but these are tempting!
Nicely done!
-
Those are very, very nice. I think the ECW is perfect for skirmish level games.
-
Thanks chaps :)
-
Congratulations on your new range - lovely looking sculpts, I’m sure they will sell well :)
-
Fantastic! Some figures that fill some much needed vacancies in various ranges. I am especially fond of the buck tooth fella. :D
I'm going shopping right now...
-
Ordered the lot Richard, they look bloody brilliant. I would love to see a few more TYW character types, I.e The Last Valley springs to mind.
-
Congrats and best wishes Richard for your range.
-
Bloody lovely Richard.
-
Now THAT'S how you launch a miniatures company; with beautifully painted minis, perfectly photographed.
Congratulations and good luck with the venture.
-
Congratulations Richard.
The miniatures are lovely and its a most welcome to this period.
Not only ECW and TYW but also the War of Independence of Portugal from Spain (1640-1668).
Small order done. ;)

Amazing miniatures, which is no surprise given they're sculpted by Nick Collier. I wish you good luck with your new venture!
-
Thank you very much everybody :)
There’s quite a bow wave of orders. Think I’m going to have to go straight back to Griffin for a restock! All being well, I’ll get everything out over the next two or three days.
It’s certainly alleviating the tedium of lockdown ;)
-
It’s certainly alleviating the tedium of lockdown ;)
It's best to keep busy in these times. ;)

oh dear :(
That's revived my ECW project, I hope you are satisfied with yourself lol

I try :D
-
@Captain Blood - beautifully painted and I have a soft spot for Nick's work via TAG (as Renegade is defunct). Will these sit ok with TAG as the photo shows the TAG on a mound?
-
Thanks :)
The interesting thing is that TAG TYW figures vary a fair bit in size. Some are almost Perry / Foundry ECW levels of diminutive, others are substantially bigger. But overall they are smaller than these new figures, yes.
Stylistically of course, they are a perfect match, being from the same sculptor. Whether you can live with the slight difference in size and stature is very much down to personal taste.
My ECW collection is 90% Bicorne and Renegade, but I’ve happily mixed in a good number of TAG figures, because for me, slight differences in size are very much less important visually, than major differences in style. But yes, I do double mount my TAG foot figures on an extra washer, which pops them up by about 2mm. Accounting for the ‘mound’ no doubt :)
-
Well that was the quickest I have ever moved from seeing to purchase.
They look wonderful (and so well painted). Despite not planning to tackle my ECW pile for 3-4 more years I couldn't say no.
Congratulations on the new venture and I hope for many more.
Richard
-
Ordered last night, received email this morning saying that figures are posted and on their way, what a turnaround.
Richard CAN YOU COME AND MANAGE NEWCASTLE UTD 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
-
Congrats and best wishes Richard for your range.
Agreed! They look fantastic Richard. Gauging from the replies, you're off to a great start! :D
-
Fantastic range range, Richard! These are really great, and I have just the rule set for them!
-J
-
Well done Captain, just placed an order, they might be skulking in my medievel town shortly
Brian
-
A really superbly imagined and designed range :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
There are some excellent poses for skirmish games as well as larger game type stuff 8)
-
What fantastic miniatures !!! :-* :-* :-* Really well done Richard. Hope you are successful with the range. But I suppose by the look of the miniatures you will be!!!!
-
Thanks very much lads :)
I’m working my way through the initial rush of orders and should get them all out this week.
-
My congratulations, too.
I am late to the party but nonetheless wanted my share of those beauties and ordered the lot.
Hope the EU doesn't make too much of a customs case of it!
Greetings from Germany.
GS
-
Got an email to say mine are on the way
I'm so exited I have wondered about whether I should cancel my holiday and stay in and wait for them lol
-
Wow, that's a bit of a bombshell! These looks very good. Lots of good luck to you and your new venture!
-
I have mine now and I can confirm that they are brilliant! They fit in very well with my largely Renegade and Bicorne figures. They work with Redoubt too. They will look great as a Forlorn Hope unit. The only problem is that I now want more like them!
-
Thanks Peder and Steve for the testimonial :)

Yes, posted this morning Kerry. I wouldn’t wait in though - I’m afraid Royal Mail ‘International Economy’ says 2 - 12 weeks. Hopefully the first not the second. Unfortunately, to the Antipodes, for the next service level up (International Standard) is over twice the price... :o

Yes, mine arrived too, so quickly. Great service Richard. :)
Before seeing these I had no interest in the ECW, the minute skirmish game was mentioned and seeing painted examples of the figures I was hooked. They certainly do not disappoint in the flesh. lovely clean, crisp castings oozing with character, each one a real individual. :-*
I can't promise I'll paint them as quickly as you sent them, but will do my best! Can't wait to see what's next. ;D
-
Bloody hell, bloody brilliant!!!
-
Thank you Nick and Pete :)
-
Mine have arrived and a couple are already on my painting desk. Lovely castings. I’m mixing them into units of Bicorne and Renegade for extra flavour. 😎

Cheers Steve.
That is, as you know, very much their raison d'etre :)
-
My order arrived this morning and the figures are superb!
I have bumped up a few in the painting queue and will make them in to a command group. The rest will make a great storming party. The figures have bags of character and are begging to be used in a skirmish or RPG type of game.
Keep up the great work 👍
-
Mine arrived today!
Excellent figures & excellent service.
Bloody Miniatures...Bloody well done!!!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Good luck with the new venture! (Not my period...yet lol... but lovely minis).

No worries I have plenty of stuff in the leadpile but I'm planning on having an ECW push over the next 3 months
-
These will do perfect for some ECW skirmish scenarios I'm putting together. Ordered the company -- now if I could only paint as well as you do!
-
Cheers Zeb. If you're one of the Baltimore Cooks (;)) I just printed your order labels. Should go tomorrow :)
-
silly question... the website link is... lol
found... at... https://www.bloodyminiatures.co.uk/ but I tried to use google search for bloody miniatures.... an nothing came up... until I switched to image and recognized the wooden bridge!
-
Mine arrived today too. Excellent figures. :)

Oh. Weird. I’ve completed all the Google SEO stuff, so it should show up in search results... Maybe it takes a few days to come through.
Mine arrived today too. Excellent figures. :)
Great. Thanks Malcolm :)
-
Lovely figures an order will have to be placed in due course.
If you google bloody miniatures ECW it comes up. Everyone should probably have a google to push it up that algorithm rankings.
-
My order got shipped yesterday...
Amazingly, shipping from Bloody Miniatures in the UK is about the same as getting something shipped within Canada. :?
-
Bloody good! I have a mountain of TAG, Bicorne and Renegade for this period but I will keep a keen eye on the progress and pick up some later in the process. Will we see some poses with cold weather clothing, like cassocks later on?
-
And arrived today :D
(https://i.postimg.cc/mZ7JJg9K/IMG-2515.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/rzFftcQ9)
Very nice in the flesh, so to speak, cleaning up and undercoating about to start!

Indeed.
UK Royal Mail 'International Economy' shipping is very reasonable. The downside is, I suspect, it's also very slow.
It's twice the price for 'International Standard' shipping to countries outside Europe though.
Three or four times the price if you start to include various tracking options.
::)
And arrived today :D
Very nice in the flesh, so to speak, cleaning up and undercoating about to start!
That was quick! Huzzah! :D

The Cid: re your earlier question, as a life-long Newcastle Utd supporter (I was born in Newcastle and brought up in Gosforth) I'm afraid that Newcastle don't need a new manager. Sadly, they need a magician, and I don't think Richard would claim to be one, although I hope he's currently a bit of an alchemist, changing lead into gold.
-
Just arrived, and I've got to say " these are the best ECW figures on the market. The animation brings each one to life and gives them an individual character. Casting is superb and the alloy used is perfect, these should last many a lifetime.
Although I have a load of Bicorne figures, which these size up to perfectly, I'm going to paint mine as stand alone figures for small skirmishes and scenarios.
For the future would love to see some snipers, dandy Cavaliers and some casualties.
Summing up Richard, I don't just like them, I bloody love em.

Mind you I caved in as well. lol

Thanks Craig. That's lovely feedback :)
Snipers and Dandy cavaliers are certainly on the long list, along with stern-faced puritans, in the fullness of time.
Never too sure about casualties. Good for markers etc, I do agree, but given the not insignificant costs involved in sculpting and mould-making (before one even gets onto casting), I'd need to have a good think about how well they'd be likely to actually sell.
(I'm honestly not in this for the money - but I have set myself the bar of covering the costs involved) :)
-
Nice one Richard, great for skirmish games 8) Very Flashing Blade :D
Lovely paint jobs too.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thank you Lance :)
You’ve got to fight for what you want, and all that you believe...
Ah, I can hear it now lol
-
Bloody hell Richard, these are a bloody bit good 8) :-*
Almost wants to make me do ECW almost
-
I think it's the first time I've ever cleaned up and undercoated figures on the day I bought them!
(https://i.postimg.cc/QMvMjbdS/fullsizeoutput-3a4.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/wtczVDJs)
It also occurs to me that those chaps at the front will make some nicely active pikemen in my larger units.
-
I think it's the first time I've ever cleaned up and undercoated figures on the day I bought them!
Excellent! lol
All being well, somewhere down the line, I'll probably do a specific pack of pikemen scrabbling in the midst of a melee...
-
Ah, The Flashing Blade! When I finally visited Chateau Gaillard a few years ago I had a flashback (pun alert!) to my childhood and could hear that stupid music ringing in my head. Odd place to film considering the castle was meant to be in northern Italy. Not sure Savoy looks all that much like Normandy. Oh well... lol
This move of yours certainly seems to be a popular one, Richard.
-
Lovely stuff Richard. So good that I've just placed an order for the lot! These will fit in nicely as doughty fighters to support my witch hunters :D
I've also passed the word on to the wargamers in my English Civil War reenactment group and you've got at least one order from that direction
-

Will get your order out to you ASAP.

So far, so good, Dylan :)
I never realised that the castle in The Flashing Blade wasn’t genuinely in the SE of France. Or wherever it was set. Italy you say? I think I thought it was somewhere between France and Spain. Mind you, I was only about 12 at the time lol
Ripe for a remake that series... I feel a proposal to Netflix coming on ;)
-
Another lead baron in the group.
Very nice looking figures Richard
Not my cup of tea though
A link to you web site would be handy as a banner on your profile?
Good luck with the venture
-
You’ve got to fight for what you want, and all that you believe...
Ah, I can hear it now lol
So can I after you mentioned it - could become a a painful ear-worm :( :D
-
Thanks Colin :)
And thank you, Lance, for the ear-worm lol
Meanwhile, here's a gratuitous close-up of the swordsmen...
-
And recieved, the day after ordering!
Absolutely cracking figures, I just hope that with the bases remived they fit with my other stuff :)
-
These look great.
Not really a period I've gamed much but just ordered a couple of packs to see. :D
Best of luck with the new venture, look forward to seeing what is added next.
Steve
-
Thanks gents :)
-
I've only just found this thread. Very nice selection of figures that will eventually be ordered for my ECW/30YW skirmish project. I've gone in for the newsletter to keep me in the loop until I'm clear to be able to order the figures. :P
-
And thank you, Lance, for the ear-worm lol
Sorry, but I gotta do this,
"Its better to have bought (these figures) & lost (some money)
than not have bought at all"
Looking forward to more in this range.
-
Those are lovely but I feel deflated as I know that I am never going to be able to paint mine so neatly .... sniff :'(
-
Beautiful work there Captain as one has come to expect. :-*
Christopher
-
Thank you gents :)
-
They really are very very nice*. Good luck with the new venture Captain, although with figures of that quality you don't need any luck whatsoever, and your honorofic Lead Baron will be assured.
* even though they are the wrong size - they'll be more than head and shoulders above my true 15mm (Sits back and waits for the 'people are different heights, a bit of height variance adds realism' argument)
-
Mine turned up today, figures are very nice indeed.
Steve
-
Good stuff, thank you Steve. Glad you like them :)
While waiting on my restock of castings to arrive (::)) I’ve amused myself with a simple head swap.
It may seem a tad deviant to launch a lovely new range of figures and immediately start cannibalising them. But with a necessarily modest 16 figures in the initial release, until the next 16 arrive (a few months’ time, all being well), the only way to extend the range for gaming (whilst avoiding duplicates) is to carry out a little minor surgery!
In this case, it’s a very simple procedure: a starter cut around the neck with a Stanley knife; sawn gently through with a regular hacksaw blade; drill a couple of mm into both the head and the torso with a 0.8mm drill; pin with a short piece of wire, and superglue. Finally, clean up and make good around the collar and hair with a tiny amount of Green Stuff (long hair of this period can cover a multitude of sins - although actually there was hardly any covering to do. The cuts were very clean).
I’ve also added a Green Stuff beard and moustache to the soft-hatted figure. Total procedure – under an hour, and gives me a handy unit of six dismounted troopers for 'The Pikeman's Lament' rules.

Nice conversions Captain, simple but effective.
-
Good idea, I may do the same for some more dismounted troopers.
-
:o
Geez, Richard!
What a surprising yet delightful announcement. Wishing you gobs of luck. But I think in this case, there probably isn't anyone better prepared to launch an ECW miniatures company than you.
Just don't take out a second mortgage... okay? ;)
-
Richard, I haven't been on forum for a while due to work commitments. A recent chat with some of the BLAM chaps mentioned your new range. What an outstanding range of figures! They bring this period to life in style. As a huge fan of skirmish gaming these have really caught my eye and now my mind is racing about a new project... Damn yer eyes man!
Wishing you all the success with the new venture.

lol Thanks Ray. No, I won't be doing that...
What an outstanding range of figures! They bring this period to life in style. As a huge fan of skirmish gaming these have really caught my eye and now my mind is racing about a new project... Damn yer eyes man!
Wishing you all the success with the new venture.
Cheers Neil :)

fantastic :-*

You know as a good dealer Richard is only feeding your addiction with the best stuff ;)
-
I tripped over these via Twitter and because I've not been on LAF much the last few weeks didn't realize there was a connection back here... but I thought I recognized some of the scenery on the Bloody Miniatures gallery!
Also got your recent email about being out of stock or very nearly so, but have ordered the Company of Wolves 16 pack anyway as a bit of a delay in getting new toys won't hurt.
-
A new period beckons. Excellent looking figures and best of luck.
Cheers

:o
Geez, Richard!
What a surprising yet delightful announcement. Wishing you gobs of luck. But I think in this case, there probably isn't anyone better prepared to launch an ECW miniatures company than you.
Just don't take out a second mortgage... okay? ;)
Don't listen to him Richard lol
Nike..........
Just do it :D

Haha! Thanks gents :)

Thanks Brian. Luckily, you have bagged the very last set I had in stock! I'll get them off to you today.
And hopefully fresh stock will arrive from the casters in the next few days so that I can get going again :)

O lucky me, new toys sooner rather than later!
I shall look forward to flinging paint upon them and saying nice things about them on my blog.

I completely missed those conversions you did, the head swaps have worked really well.
Steve
-
Nice conversions Captain, simple but effective.
I agree, they're the best sort of conversions :D
-
I agree, they're the best sort of conversions :D
In my early days of wargaming a friend used to do all sorts of conversions.
Not just heads, but arms, legs & torsos were regularly swapped.
Then one day he proudly produced his latest 'creation' only to be shown
the exact same in one of my units. He had reassembled it exactly the same
as it had originally been. 'Thought it fitted well & didn't need much Miliput'
he said.

Thanks gents :)
Well, still waiting on a restock of figures from the casters… So here’s a quick game report featuring Bloody Miniatures (plus one or two Bicorne figures, and a troop of horse - mainly TAG figures… ) played using ‘The Pikeman’s Lament’ (TPL).
The pastoral scene… 1645, the village of Hambledon-cum-Knightley, occupied by Parliamentarian picquets, but about to be liberated (they hope) by the dashing Lady Lucinda Knightley and her men…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421140214.jpeg)
For Parliament:
- Thomas Sheffield’s dismounted harquebusiers, who are holding a prayer meeting in the orchard (a ‘veteran commanded shot’ unit in TPL terms)
- Nathaniel Crowe’s Forlorn Hope, sojourning outside the alehouse (a TPL ‘forlorn hope’ - albeit with a reduced shooting range of 12”, since they’re sword and pistol armed only)
For the King:
- Lady Lucinda Knightley’s troop of horse, entering the north end of the lane near the Manor (‘aggressive elite gallopers’)
- Knightley’s Foot, also entering nearby ( an ‘aggressive forlorn hope’)
- Sir Christopher Quarton’s greencoats (also an ‘aggressive forlorn hope’) entering the south end of the lane by the pool.
The Royalists have a more men, but all hand-to-hand specialists – no firearms.
They need to get up close and personal to drive the perfidious Roundheads from the village.
The Parliamentarians merely need to try to keep the Royalists at arm’s length and shoot them to pieces. Easy right? ;)
Crowe’s company loiter at the alehouse. In the background, Sheffield’s dismounted harquebusiers can be seen at their devotions in the orchard...
Quarton’s forlorn hope enters at the south end of the lane…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421140117-509731578.jpeg)
Knightley’s purple-coated horse and foot approach the Manor from the north and west…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421140117-50972177.jpeg)
Thomas Sheffield’s harquebusiers move up to line the western hedge to the orchard, as they espy Knightley’s forlorn hope approaching the pond…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421140117-509711763.jpeg)
Having spotted Quarton’s greencoats hopping over the hedge from the lane, and skirting round the pool behind the church, Crowe’s Pistoleers depart the alehouse and move to the end of Church Close, ready to mount an ambuscade.
Aggressive gallopers should test to make a wild charge against an enemy within attack range, but the hedge means that they couldn’t reach the harquebusiers (they’d have to move up to the hedge and stop, so aren’t in attack range as such. At least that's my reading of the rules... )
Lady Lucinda instead leads her cavaliers south down the lane, leaving her company of foot (temporarily taking cover behind a nearby cottage) to deal with the Roundhead harquebusiers …
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135923-509692177.jpeg)
But the harquebusiers, being commanded shot, are now able to make a skirmish action (a half move and fire). Also - as commanded shot - they suffer no movement penalty for crossing rough ground (it’s a bramble patch)… Nor, as veterans, do they suffer the usual -1 for skirmish shooting… So all-in-all, pretty versatile. They give fire with their carbines…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135923-509681788.jpeg)
…and successfully take down one of Lady Lucinda’s cavaliers.
With sky-high morale however, the troop of horse sail through the resultant morale check.
Quarton’s forlorn hope are also under fire - from Crowe’s pistoleers, who have crossed into the field in front of the barn.
As an aggressive forlorn hope, the greencoats’ already high stamina is further raised by the shelter of the fence, meaning they only take one casualty, despite some crack shooting (8 hits on 12 D6!) from the pistoleers. The greencoats easily pass their morale check.
As Lady Lucinda leads her cavaliers south down the lane, her foot rush towards the hedge, intending to assault the harquebusiers lurking in the bramble patch – should the Royalists gain the initiative on the following turn, that is…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135923-509651757.jpeg)
Unfortunately for them, Parliament wins the initiative, and Sheffield’s harquebusiers make another successful skirmish move – backwards this time, shooting and killing one of Knightley’s forlorn hope. Once again though, Royalist morale holds firm.
Crowe’s pistoleers clamber over the hedge into Church Close… Quarton’s forlorn hope having sneaked around the back of the church…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135735-509632330.jpeg)
Now it’s the Royalists’ turn, and Knightley’s forlorn hope jump into the bramble patch – a risky move since they are now moving at half speed (only 3”) in the rough, and cannot reach the harquebusiers. They must hope they win the initiative again on the next move! Who dares wins, Rodney!
Quarton’s forlorn hope charge into Crowe’s pistoleers, just as Lady Lucinda and her cavaliers come cantering into Church Close from the lane…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135735-5096269.jpeg)
In the bloody melee that ensues, the two parties lose two men each, but morale holds up all round. On a drawn combat, Quarton’s greencoats are obliged to retire half a move however, having failed to win their attack. They’ll be in trouble now, as at half strength they’ll only be rolling half the amount of dice in their attacks.
Next turn. Parliament win the initiative, and Sheffield’s harquebusiers successfully activate and shoot, killing another of Knightley’s forlorn hope – their morale still holds however.
Crowe’s pistoleers give fire, and kill another of Quarton’s greencoats. They're down to just two. Still their morale does not crack!
Lady Lucinda now urges her gallopers at a lick down Church Close, bearing down on Crowe’s Pistoleers…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135533-50957689.jpeg)
In the bramble patch, her forlorn hope charge into Sheffield’s harquebusiers, who fail their activation role to evade… the dice Gods have deserted them in their hour of need!
This has a predictably dire result, because whilst very tricky to pin down, ‘commanded shot’ are ultra-fragile. Despite the equalising effect of fighting in rough terrain, the dice continue to go against Parliament. They immediately lose four casualties against just one for Knightley’s aggressive forlorn hope. The remaining harquebusiers fail their morale test, and promptly break in rout.
Ironically, despite having trounced and routed the harquebusiers, the Royalist forlorn hope also fail their morale test (having taken a casualty) and start to waver…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/50/577-040421135327-50954531.jpeg)
Parliament wins the initiative on the next turn, and Crowe’s pistoleers rashly (and fatefully) decide to stand their ground and shoot, managing to take down another of Lady Lucinda’s cavaliers. Still not enough to dent their sky-high elite aggressive morale though.
Initiative passes back to the Royalists, Lady Lucinda has to immediately test for a wild charge, and duly smashes into Crowe’s pistoleers. In the ensuing one-sided encounter, the pistoleers lose two men, although managing to kill another horseman. They lose the combat however, their morale promptly cracks, and they too break and run.
Knightley’s forlorn hope immediately pass their wavering morale test and set off through the orchard after the fleeing harquesbusiers (actually, having passed their test, they’re supposed to stand still, rally, and do nothing. But once a unit routs in TPL, there’s no coming back - they just keep running until they’re off the table, so it’s somewhat academic as to whether the Royalists pursue or not. But it makes for a better picture 😊)
Similarly, since the remnants of Crowe’s pistoleers are now routing and effectively off. So there’s little point in Lady Lucinda’s troop following up to deliver the coup de grace (as aggressive gallopers are technically obliged to). Nor in the residue of Quarton’s greencoats getting stuck in - much as they’d like to…
And that’s game over.
The Parliamentarians should really have hung back behind cover a lot more and used their firepower. (But that would have made for a rather longer game of cat and mouse… )
The casualty clearing station. This is why I like The Pikeman’s Lament – fast, flavoursome and downright brutal.
The buildings, I should point out, are all by Oshiro Model Terrain, except the church, which was made by Steve 'Silent Invader' Marshall.
The wonderfully bucolic hedgerows are by Debris of War - highly recommended :)
-
Most splendid, as are the figures :-*
-
A very engaging account of a wonderful skirmish. Of course the terrain and figures (both castings and painting) all go together beautifully. The very best of our hobby. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Absolutely fab 8)

Always a pleasure to see your scenery and figures on a table!

I did receive my package yesterday and wow! The models are stunning! Beautifully sculpted, great detail and top notch casting. Real happy with them. A great range you have here, Richard!
-
Thanks everybody :)
New stock should be arriving today, so Bloody Miniatures should shortly be back in business after that brief, unfortunate hiatus ::)

Gracias Antonio. I’m glad they arrived safely, and am happy you like them :)

as good as it gets. Velux windows (I think were mentioned in another thread) ftw !

stunning stuff sir

My wife was heading out the door for work this morning, stopped at the mailbox, and came back into the house gleefully announcing, "Your bloody miniatures are here, love..."
Admit it, you named your company that on purpose to amuse our partners, didn't you? lol
I opened them up and the cat and I had a quick admiring glance at them before I started working from home. They're lovely, super clean castings, and great poses.
I took a few photos and will do an unboxing and quick review on my blog sometime in the next few days!
-
Thanks Brian. As long as the cat is happy with them, that’s the main thing. Your wife will come round ;)
I’ve now had a restock of castings so roll onwards :)
-
Just ordered the company of wolves deal.
They look great, very characterful

I guess a little over three weeks to NZ isn't too bad considering Royal Mail 'International Economy' says 2 - 12 weeks for delivery!
I've now worked out how to adjust the shipping options within the basket/cart on the website, so that orders from outside Europe can now opt to pay a couple of pounds extra and upgrade to Royal Mail 'International Standard' instead, which promises worldwide delivery with 6 - 7 business days :)
Richard

Following in your illustrious footsteps!

Oh, I think you are younger and faster than Naughty Nick. His last release was made, when in cinemas they had no sound, only a guy with a piano, I think... ;)

:o :o :o I've just noticed all this!
Truly excellent!

Merci Patrice :)

Just picked them up at the local post office this morning.
The miniatures are simply brilliant, exactly what is needed for my often adjourned TYW skirmish project.
I am very much looking forward to the next release.
-
Thank you :)
I’m glad you like them.
-
Revived a couple of pack as a try out for these last week and all I can say is congratulations and thanks to all involved. Ordering was simple, delivery super fast and the quality in the sculpting and casting is absolutely top drawer. I have two very large ECW armies that I am happy with and didn’t plan on buying much if any more for this period but these are a must have and as intended add a lovely dash of colour and character.
-
Thanks Mikeland. Glad you like them :)
Whilst eagerly awaiting the next batch of dolls and components for Release 2 to arrive from Mr. Collier, I've done a few more head swaps - just for a bit of variety in the collection :)
So it's head A onto body B, B onto C, and C onto A! A fairly simple task with a fine blade hacksaw, made good with a little Green Stuff around the collar and hair. (All those lustrous mid-C17th locks are a boon for the head-swapper ;))
The swordsman is a Thirty Years War character. As soon as I popped the head on the body, I could hear the theme from 'The Flashing Blade'...
I'm sure he's Spanish.
He looks Spanish.
I'm calling him Don Alonso anyway :D

Nice, I particularly like the midnight blue coat 8)

Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-*
And that swordsman does look very Spanish
-
Very nice, Baroni Blood!
Loving all those lovely colours.
:-* :-*
Is that fella in blue based on a certain 'galloping major' we know?
;)
All those lustrous mid-C17th locks are a boon for the head-swapper ;))
You stay away from me with that hacksaw, you fiend!
;)

Nice work once again! But aren’t headswaps a bit contrary to creating your own miniatures range? ;)

It’s just another stage in the creative process... ;)
-
Wow. Just love that 'Don Alonso' fellow.
-
With such dashing poses, you'll be asked to produce a D'Artagnan some day... :D
And I shall have a closer look at these chaps to see if a simple conversion (a longer nose) could change one of them into Cyrano de Bergerac. lol

Ah, very good. :)
I've barely reached the priming stage with my batch. ::)

Thanks chaps.

Oh come on Malcolm lol
(I am itching to see what you do with them :))
With such dashing poses, you'll be asked to produce a D'Artagnan some day... :D
I reckon I’ve already had 15 - 20 enquiries about extending the range to encompass the Three Musketeers ::)
Is that fella in blue based on a certain 'galloping major' we know?

There is a passing resemblance isn’t there? (Entirely coincidental) ;)
Your barnet needs hedge trimmers not a hacksaw, Pablo :D

-
Very nice conversion work.
-
Thank you Helen.
Are your instructions to the sculptor including "Keep in mind I like to swap heads."? :)
I haven't shared my butchery with him yet lol
I can see a pack of separate heads proving a useful extension to the range though, for the would-be converter...
-
I can see a pack of separate heads proving a useful extension to the range though, for the would-be converter...
You might be onto something. One of the things I always liked about the Westwind Arthurian range was the packs of heads (even though some of the sculpting was a little coarse).
-
Yeah. I remember the Lamming figures of yore. All separate heads. Innovative in their day, and allowed a degree of variation :)
The only slight difficulty is that just about all of my Bloody Miniatures figures so far tend to have longish hair coming down onto and over the collar at the back - because that was very much the mid-C17th style. So it's going to be tricky to pull off - but not impossible.
Anyway, first things first - plenty of other fish to fry before getting onto such nice extras... :)
-
You know what you have to do, don’t you :D
Listen to Porthos, Riccardo, as you know what the big fella is like when he gets angry (or hungry!)....
-
lol
-
Listen to Porthos, Riccardo, as you know what the big fella is like when he gets angry (or hungry!)....
Pablo, the big one is Godzilla, not Porthos. ;)

And he’ll come stomp on your little town if you’re not careful >:D
-
lol lol
-
And finally... Release 2 of Bloody Miniatures is almost upon us.
Apologies if you've seen these already, but for the record...
Nick Collier has now finalised the next 16 figures, and once again pulled out all the stops to create a set of extraordinary mid-C17th characters.
These are now with Griffin for moulding, mastering, checking and - after all that - production casting. I’m hoping, all being well, these will be available around the start of October, as single packs of four figures, or as an all-in, 16-figure deal entitled ‘A Murder of Crows’.
Pack BM006 - The Squire’s Men
A skirmishing party of loyal woodsmen, gamekeepers and sharpshooters, drawn from his oldest tenant families to form the Squire’s personal lifeguard of foot. He’s raised his own company from across his estates, but these chosen men, old and young, with their well-used fowling pieces and muskets, are the cream of his crop. (If rumour is to be believed, one or two might even be the crop of his cream... ) In their homespun short coats or old-fashioned doublets, they're aiming, priming, lurking, or advancing stealthily. Ready to bring down the Squire’s enemies as gladly as any deer or partridge.

BM007 - The Storming Party
A veteran assault crew of hard-bitten desperadoes, hand-picked for their courage and ferocity. First to the breach in any siege or escalade, they are helmeted, well-armoured and equipped, and armed to the teeth with pistols, swords, axes, grapples, and the fearsome new grenados – in attacking and advancing poses.

BM008 - The Night Watch
A detachment of musket-armed picquets, guards and watchful sentries. In camp; the market square; guarding the baggage, the prisoners, or the gates to the manor. They wear broad-brimmed hats and helmets, one or two in foul weather capes or casaques, and are in standing or walking poses, with muskets cradled, grounded or at the ready.

BM009 - The Moss Troopers
A rapacious gang of brigands, freebooters, broken men, or discharged and destitute soldiers turned to banditry and ambuscades. Hard-bitten irreconcilables for whom the war never ended - like the notorious Doones of Badgworthy Vale. This disreputable crew are attired in Dutch coats and boots, their hair worn long under broad brimmed hats. They’re well armed with pistols, swords and carbines.

You have to say, Mr Collier's pretty good at faces...
By popular request (well at least three people) the next Bloody release will also include a separate weapons pack. Nick had already made all the components, so figured I might as well make them available for those that want them. Useful for vignettes and so on, or for conversions. You can also use them to equip pack BM002, The Forlorn Hope, with something other than the polearms they come with.
The 14-piece weapons pack will include: Musket; carbine; fowling piece; pistol; two different powder flasks; four different mortuary swords (two unsheathed and two in their scabbards); halberd; partisan; bill; spontoon.
That's it. Will confirm here once they're available :)
-
Just brilliant. Love that ‘bulletproof’ chap in particular. (Coincidentally just published an article on the impact of the TYW on my current hometown - which included sixteen sieges.) If only ordering from the UK wouldn’t be such a hassle.
-
Wicked cool :D
You still need to do some musketeers you know. There’s a list floating around ;)
-
You still need to do some musketeers you know.
Would that be:-
Aramis (Inventor of the After-Shave)
Portly (The Overweight One)
Dartinbull (He's on the Ochre!)
Pathos (The Sad one)
& others ??? ??? ???

All are lovely additions Richard.
I can’t decide if my absolute favourites are the Night’s Watch or the Squire’s Men, as alongside their specialist roles you have devised, both would certainly add a lot of character to my musket units.

That's interesting as I really like the Moss Troopers. :)

My favourite pack is the Night Watch, but all the figures are great. Well done.

Thanks :)

Indeed, although I’ve grouped them and designed them in these little themed vignette style groups, I fully expect most wargamers to simply sprinkle them through their existing collections in order to add some more character to rank and file units. That was always the main intent of the range to be honest :)

Just when you thought you were safe from dipping your toes.

Superb new figures,a definite must have.
Any chances of going "North of the Border";with the rlthird release?
Cheers,
Andy

You won’t regret it Phil. (Any more than I regret those 15mm Copplestones you encouraged me to get - you evil seducer you ;))

Not in the third release (already on the drawing board), but further down the line, certainly :)

Lovely looking figures and definitely on my ‘to buy’ list.
And the separate weapons pack is an excellent idea, I was just wishing for one yesterday as I contemplated my painting of the first release - with luck I might get them finished before these come out!

Indeed. As Nick had already made all the components, I figured I might as well make them available for those that say they want them. Useful for vignettes and so on, or for conversions.
As you can see from the pics below, if nothing else, you can use them to equip The Forlorn Hope pack with something other than the polearms they come with.
The musket and fowling piece are a straight fit into the open hands of the figures, and with powder flasks attached to their belts.
The fellow brandishing his new sword and pistol did require a tiny bit of surgery – slicing off his left hand and rotating it through 90 degrees, before reattaching it to accept the pistol. And cutting off the hilt of his sheathed sword (made good with a tiny bit of Green Stuff). That’s it. Nothing too challenging :)
The 14-piece assorted weapons pack will include: Musket; carbine; fowling piece; pistol; two different powder flasks; four different mortuary swords (two unsheathed and two in their scabbards); halberd; partisan; bill; spontoon.

Lovely conversion and paint work there - those weapon packs will be brilliant 👍
-
Superb figures with lovely painting. They look perfect for skirmishing, as each has definite period flavor and character.
-
Placed my first order for these wolves! I would like to know if there will be civilians planned in this range.

Gracias Juan. Posted today :)
Yes, I plan to include a pack of ladies defending a siege and also a band of peasants / clubmen. These will be in release 4 all being well - so a little way down the line I’m afraid.
I’m probably not going to do any completely unarmed civilians / bystanders. I do appreciate they are nice for adding decorative character, but I am really focused on producing figures that wargamers can use as combatants within a game.
-
I am waiting for your second release to place my order for all the 8 packs and now you are talking about a third release! :o :o :o
I really like the idea of armed civilians. Can´t wait to see those. I would also like more figures in "Dutch" 3/4 length coats. They work great for Swedes and Danes in the Wars of Karl X.
Any chance that you, as accessories, can add weapons with hands attached? I find that easier than fitting loose weapons.
-
A must have for sure. :-* :-*
Lovely miniatures.
My portuguese force will grow beyond what i had planned. ;D

Enough for me! My plan is to play skirmish games with FoL "Horse and Musket" so armed ladies and peasants are going to be very useful!
-
Just received the email and I promptly doubled down. :D
-
Ordered!
-
Thanks gents. I will do my best to get these out to you in the next couple of days, although I've been somewhat inundated. Nice problem to have :)
-
Great to see them released. :D
Ordered 👍.
-
Great Figures. Placed order today. Looking forward to the armed peasants.
-
Great release Richard. I'm hoping you may consider to have a number of separate head packs that can be purchase in the future to fit in with your range, Bicorne and Redoubt miniatures. As you know both ranges have separate head packs, but a large number are on the smaller size to fit in with the larger bodies. I like your storming party and separate weapons which I will purchase.
-
Thanks all. I'll get them out to you in the next day or two.
Great to see them released. :D
Ordered 👍.
Cheers Andy - I haven't started promoting them widely, 'cos I'm already struggling under a tidal wave of orders lol
(nice problem to have, obvs).
I actually mailed out to the 600 people who have kindly subscribed for Bloody Miniatures updates. But for some reason (‘invalid SMTPAPI header’ - whatever the flying f**k that is) half of them bounced. My website provider (Wix) is endeavouring to fix the issue. Slowly ::)
So I do need to go back out to let those 300 or so people know that they're available. Then I'll start in on Facebook etc. But they're certainly in ridiculously high demand already, so I'm taking it steady :)
-
I think I must have been one of the 300 (sort of sounds exciting! lol).
Fortunately I heard the release mentioned by Dom in the news section of the Plastic Crack Podcast.
I can imagine the demand is a bit overwhelming. You’ve created a monster ;) , but a good one.
-
So I do need to go back out to let those 300 or so people know that they're available.
They weren't the ones at Thermopylae were they? :D

This is a great looking release, just placed my order.

Just sharing this nifty vignette converted by Brian Rigelsford from a few figures in the latest Bloody release.
I painted this group for Brian in exchange for some bespoke conversions that he kindly sent me for my own collection. The vignette is based on one of Brian’s excellent concept sketches, ‘Now tell the captain’.
The three standing figures are Bloody Miniatures with some minor conversion work and / or head swaps. The kneeling figure is concocted from various parts - not entirely sure where, although the face looks familiar lol
Brian also sent me a camp follower with a baby, which I'm pretty sure is a Perry medieval figure (from one of the WOTR farm cart sets) heavily disguised underneath Brian’s skilful putty-work. She's a really delightful ECW character.
Adding her to the vignette gives the scene a slightly different complexion...
No longer ‘Now tell the captain’ - instead, ‘What have you done to my sister?’ ;)

Apologies if you've already seen the pics below via one of my Bloody annoying TM social media missives :D
Having set the table up for a game tomorrow (now cancelled, thanks Major Omicron) I decided I'd shoot a few pics of some of my Bloody Miniatures alongside some of the rest of my ECW collection.
It occurred to me that I haven't shown the Bloody figures mixed in with Nick Collier's earlier work for Bicorne, Renegade and TAG.
This was, after all, the intent behind the new range - to add to Nick's body of work for those other wargames businesses (one of which, Renegade, now appears to be sadly defunct) with some more character type figures.
So here you go :)
All the Bloody Miniatures in these pictures, and quite a few of the other figures were painted by me. Several, however, were painted by those excellent painters, Shaun 'Redzed' Watson or by Michael 'Baner' Siwak.

Lovely looking figures and set-up. Your figures are really transforming the utility of the Bicorne infantry in my opinion. Before you brought out your figures, I think the Bicorne infantry were best suited for big battles. With the addition of your figures they're now good for skirmishes as well.
-
Awesomeness,thanks for sharing 👍

Agreed
-
Exceptional, and if the projections listed in your BM email come to fruition, I see another new period landing up on my painting table.
-
Looking at the last eat mail shot , waves 3 and 4 are going to be even more tempting than the first 2.
Also love the sketches by Brian Rigelsford. Just superb, and so evocative. Can’t help thinking there must be another avenue to bring his work to a wider audience.
-
I too love the sketches. Most are impractical for me as minis but as said they are evocative of the period. The Bloody minis are great too :)
-
I love the sketches too. I seem to remember hearing that, when John Ray was building his amazing eighteenth century collection, he commissioned Brian to sketch figures for particular scenarios. John would take the sketches, decide which figures he wanted and then sculpt them himself. I wish I had the skill to do that. It must be amazing and you'd end up with something completely unique.
-
Meant to add these here... ::)
These are the first two packs from Release 3, which (all being well) will be ready for sale by the end of March.
‘The Looters’ - a band of disreputable soldiery laden with forage and the spoils of war. But still very much with their swords, pistols and muskets to hand.
And ‘The Militant Tendency’ - Ranters, Levellers, Diggers, Anabaptists, Fifth Monarchists, and more besides. This well-armed mob of assorted rabble-rousers are exhorting and imploring with their prayer books, polemics and political tracts.
I hope you’ll agree Nick has some conjured some amazing period character and detail into these new figures :)

And, hot off the press, the first figure from the third pack, 'Parliamentarian Characters'.
This fellow is a veteran New Model Army sergeant - well-thumbed pamphlet of psalms tucked into his hat band, a broad sash encircling his back-and-breast corselet, and clutching his trusty halberd close...

Marvelous characters.

Great figures! I don't game ECW and have never painted figures for that period (I would love to one day but have too many ongoing projects at the moment!) but I am going to get the Looters as the guy with the sack over his shoulder will make a great Thief for my next Frostgrave warband.
I don't know if you play that game Captain, but it strikes me your range of miniatures could provide all the figures one might need for an English Civil War themed warband; the guys with breastplates and helmets could count as "Knights", musketeers as "Crossbowmen", there is a nice variety of levels of armour and double and single-handed weapons in the range to provide "Thugs", "Infantrymen" etc and of course your Militant Tendency could provide "Wizards" and "Apprentices" clutching their Prayer books ("grimoires") and pamphlets ("scrolls"). I just need a "Barbarian".
Any chance your next releases will include a particularly strapping lad wielding a two-handed weapon? He should be unarmoured so a floppy hat is fine and although stripped to the waist is traditional this is England after all so perhaps a flouncy shirt would be acceptable ;)
-
Excellent sculpts.
-
Finally painting my sixteen Release 1 figures and they're gorgeous. Doing them up as a county militia sort of regiment with a small mounted/dragoon contingent, as that suits the figure mix well and gives some variety for skirmish gaming.
Did I see something go past that you're considering doing some female figures both armed and unarmed? There's so few ECW ladies out there in 28mm...

Yes, Release 4 will include a pack of 'ladies defending a siege' :)
Glad to hear you're enjoying painting the figures Brian.

Hmmm. Hadn't thought about that, but could try to weave an unarmoured melee character into a future release.
Interesting thought on the Frostgrave front. Maybe Joe will write a C17th expansion :)
It's still early days, but the figures seem quite a popular choice for 'folk horror' type settings - I've seen several people using them for that genre. So maybe a Frostgrave type game leaning in that direction would be a reasonable seller... ;)
-
Three Musketeers would sell better >:D

Great idea for a warband. I’d have thought a Scottish Highlander would fit well as the Barbarian character (based on prevailing opinion at the time; comes from a far away place, speaks a strange language, carries a big chopper!) and plenty of those in the various ECW Scots ranges.
-
Congrats on the new venture! The Platonic ideal of gaming right here. Many of these would make good witch hunters too.

... or Italians (old insider joke, Sir Riccardo ;) )...

Great looking new additions. Will definitely be adding these.
I like some of the suggestions as well, and if I may
What would be good as a set of scrapping pike men, with swords, axes etc…..the Bicorne sword wielding pike are for some reason very small compared to your minis and all pretty much in the same poses.
Also, these are not that many choices available in scale for good looking civilians and townsfolk.

Yes, a set of pikemen ‘en melee’ with swords and broken pikestaffs etc are on the list. As are armed peasants.
Not 100% convinced on the townsfolk, alas.
I’d like them. You’d like them. But I’d need at least 200 other people to like them enough to buy a pack of them, just in order to break even and cover the sculpting, moulding and ancillary costs. It’s a fairly brutal calculation I’m afraid :(
It’s still very early days in the lifetime of Bloody Miniatures, coming up for 1 year of operations, and it’s been quite successful overall. The best selling pack so far (the dismounted troopers), has sold around 330 packs to date. But some of the others (in release 2) haven’t attained the magic 200 yet, to edge into profitability. And they’re all pretty mainstream subjects thus far.
So it will be interesting to see how one or two of the more, er, esoteric offerings in the upcoming third release fare :)
It’s a long game of course… I’m expecting a tail of sales to keep trickling in for years to come ;)
-
Fully understand….😢
None the less, keep ‘em coming!

All these figures are really SPLENDID !!!

Apologies in the first instance for not frequent the LAF recently, work and family issues, as always beautiful, stunning figures Cap. Blood. Just reading your reply there, would it help having some of the release 2 in and amongst other figure manufacturers? As us gamers are an eclectic lot, not everyone will have Bicorne minis so maybe some pics of your figures with others may help?

You are loosing a lot of customers in Europe, I‘m afraid. Over here in Germany in the last year all parcel were caught by the custom and I paid around 20-25% for every parcel. Depends a bit on the value, because DHL always puts 6 Euro to a parcel for „custom support“. So a small company like Bloody Miniatures are the big looser of it, because of missing distribution over here. Sad, but true…
-
just received my latest batch of Bloody Miniatures...boy they are really all encompassing, beautiful miniatures..always a good sign when even my jaded eyes stop and stare at each casting for ages...lightning fast service, and i looked for the red tissue..it was there. im happy!!
keep up the fine work Richard!! :D 8) :D 8) :o

Thanks Dirk. Yes, I'm aware of the problem, and it's definitely had an impact. In the first few months of this little venture, I was shipping fully one third of orders received to EU countries, especially France and Germany. Then the post-Brexit rules changed and the European trade dropped off a cliff. Perfectly understandable of course - it was bad enough to have to pay customs and handling charges, but VAT on top, means that a 30.00 GBP box of toy soldiers can end up costing at least half as much again - which is just ridiculous. Good old Brexit eh? Just who is it good for? Absolutely nobody. Anyway, sorry... straying into politics there, I'll have to moderate myself >:D
What's interesting is that international sales to (for instance) the USA, Canada, NZ and Oz are holding up absolutely fine. It's ironic that I can send a small package to the other side of the world with minimal extra cost and hassle for the recipient, and yet sending it 20 miles across the English Channel can involve ludicrous amounts of additional cost and red tape. Ah well, we are where we are. Politics, eh?
Some brave souls are still ordering from the EU (thank you!) and I hear different stories back from them.
Some people seem to get clobbered with huge surcharges and their order takes 6-8 weeks to arrive. In other cases, they get away with it, and the package turns up within a few days.
I think it all depends, not just on the different jurisdictions in different countries, but also on which individual customs official happens to pick it up on any particular day, and how vindictive he or she is feeling ::)
-
These are beautiful. Nick Collier is one of my favourite sculptors. One day I’ll get into ECW. Maybe we Brough Pikeman’s Lament. Nothing too big.
-
Not 100% convinced on the townsfolk, alas.
I'm gonna do my part and buy 2 packs of everything you have. :D
Eventually, I imagine the mess caused by Brexit will sort itself out to some degree and, at the least, will become more consistent if not considerably cheaper. When I order from manufacturers outside Canada as long as the total is low- say, under $150 CDN- I can usually avoid custom charges and a long delay. Still inconsistent in processing times though: I could order a package from Bloody Miniatures one day and have it here in a week and half; the next one might take a month. ::)
-
Apologies in the first instance for not frequent the LAF recently, work and family issues, as always beautiful, stunning figures Cap. Blood. Just reading your reply there, would it help having some of the release 2 in and amongst other figure manufacturers? As us gamers are an eclectic lot, not everyone will have Bicorne minis so maybe some pics of your figures with others may help?
Sorry, missed that earlier! Thank you :) Yes, I did that (See p. 17 of this thread - great minds! lol)
Right then...
Here are the next 16 figures incoming from Bloody Miniatures. Yippeee!
These have now gone off to Griffin for moulding, mastering, checking and - after all that - production casting. All being well, these will be in stock in around three to four weeks. Not quite in time for our first Bloody birthday next week alas, but close enough. The best laid plans... ::)
As with previous releases, they'll be available as single packs of four figures, or together as a 16-figure deal - ‘A Parcel of Rogues’. Perfect for mid-C17th skirmish wargames, or to add period character and vignette detail to your ECW / TYW era armies.
Pack BM0013 – ‘The Looters’. A band of disreputable soldiery laden with forage and the spoils of war - swag, sacks, bundles, caskets of valuables, bottles, altar goods, flasks, wine casks, and so on. But still very much with their swords, pistols and muskets at the ready.

Pack BM014 – ‘The Militant Tendency’. The Civil Wars provoked a dangerous ferment of religious, social and political upheaval. Agitators and ‘sectaries’ abounded – Ranters, Levellers, Diggers, Fifth Monarchists, Anabaptists and more besides. This well-armed crew of assorted rabble-rousers wield prayer books, polemics, political tracts, and fire and brimstone exhortations.

Pack BM015 – ‘All the King's Men’. Raffish Royalists in flamboyant attire, including a well-fed landowner enjoying a cup of sack; a dandified cavalier gentleman sporting 1642’s latest, most fashionable togs; a hard-bitten TYW veteran in the Royalist cause, with scarred visage and fluted Continental zischagge. And finally, a notorious duellist / killing gentleman with rapier.

Pack BM016 – ‘The Parliament Men’. Plain-speaking Parliamentarians in austere, godly attire. Including a bluff and honest East Anglian farmer-turned-soldier; a stout Member of Parliament in his iron puritan hat; a dour puritan intelligencer in his tall hat, long coat and riding cape; and a veteran New Model Army sergeant, pamphlet of psalms thrust through his hatband (He has open hands and a separate halberd by the way, so you could press him into service an ensign).

As promised, this release will also include a pack of 12 separate heads for conversions (not pictured).
I hope you like them (And damn your eyes if you don't! >:D lol)

Excellent as always Richard, especially like the looters
Cheers
-
Yes please :)
-
Super additions to the range Richard :-*
Becoming increasingly difficult to resist :P :)
-
Excellent news….. quite excited :D
-
Wonderful sculpts! Can't decide which are my favourites: the Royalist Duellist, the Puritan Intelligencer, the farmer smoking his pipe or the Militant with hat in hand and eyes turned Heavenwards. They are all lovely though :-*

Agreed. :-*
-
Stonking figures. Can't wait for these to be available!
-
Another cracking set of figures. As much as I like my Renegade and Bicorne figures, I think Bloody Miniatures are my favourite ECW range.
-
Thanks all :)

Freebies?!
Brill! Will look forward to receiving them :D

Lovely,I do like the chap smoking a pipe. He’d make a good gamekeeper :)
-
Yes, he's one of my favourites :) Thanks Guy.
-
Hi Richard,
My figures came in today.
From the UK to Portland Oregon in 12 days.
Very lovely figures.
Will have to get started on them.
Seeing these figures has rekindle my love for ECW.
I had large armies in the 1980s and sold them all off about 1990 or so.
So now I start again, at a much smaller scale.
-
Thanks Randy :)
I’m glad they made it safely and fairly quickly. Pleased that you like the figures too. And yes, I’ve been through three different ECW armies down the last 40 or so years, so I know how you feel lol

Only THREE !?!
Newbie. lol lol lol

I’m a lot younger than you ;)

Thank you Florian. Yes, I think Nick has captured the spirit of the age ;) Good for the Thirty Years War in Germany too, yes? :D
-
Excellent figures, can’t wait to get a brush on them.
-
I’m a lot younger than you ;)
Everyone's a lot younger than me.
There was a great line in the film Lion in Winter,
where Henry II 'Good God I'm the oldest man I know!
I've got ten years on the Pope!!!'
lol lol lol
-

Indeed, Richard!
In the town where we are currently living, we even have a bit of local folkore. A group of looters called „Dat wählige Rott“ (roughly translated „the jolly pack“) is said to have stolen a Catholic banner when Tilly besieged the city. That would be a nice project.
Just now I’m fully working on a special exhibition in my real job, but after April 1st I’ll have time again!
-
That sounds very interesting :)
-
That does sound interesting - more details please!
In other news, my order from Bloody Miniatures arrived today, cracking service, cracking figures.
Now I have them, a theory I had has been confirmed….the guys with two pistols and the carbine from the Moss Troopers, they really do look like a 17th Butch & Sundance bursting out the stables….

Glad you’re pleased with the figures :)
Now you come to mention it, I can see a passing resemblance lol
(Although I don’t think either of those Bloody Miniatures have quite the looks of Redford and Newman ;)

:D can just imagine O'Toole delivering that line (haven't seen the film).

Oh you MUST! A very enjoyable, well acted & very
well written film.
Henry II (O'Toole)
Eleanor of Aquitaine (Katrine Hepburn)
& Antony Hopkins in his first major role.
Lots of political infighting between
Henry, Eleanor, Arthur, Richard (Lionheart), John &
the young French King. Great fun. :D
-
Yes, the film is packed with witty and very quotable lines (though it is perhaps a tad too witty and dialogue-heavy for its own good sometimes : you can definitely tell it was a stage play before it was adapted for the big screen).
Here are a couple of my favourites :
* "You know I know. I know you know I know. We know Henry knows, and Henry knows we know it. We're a very knowledgeable family"
* Henry II: "I marvel at you after all these years. Still like a democratic drawbridge: going down for everybody".
Eleanor of Aquitaine: "At my age there's not much traffic anymore."
* Geoffrey: [to Prince John] : "If you are a prince, there is hope for every ape in Africa."
-
I really must watch it again. :)
-
Just a quick message to thank Richard for this fantastic range and service. Ordered the ship of fools deal and some extra moss troopers and weapons on Wednesday night. Order arrived here in Scotland on Friday morning.
Minimal flash and beautiful sculpting. All now prepared and ready for painting. My plan is to use most of them for the 1650s Deluge. As Nick Collier has sculpted Poles and such for TAG, they should blend well enough.
Thanks again Richard. I will be back and encourage all to have a look at this amazing range!
Scott

Thanks Scott. Glad you like them and thanks for the feedback :)
Slight delay on release 3, but I now have the metal masters for painting, and here they are, primed:

Also the separate head sprues, for the bold converters amongst us...
And some sample headswaps... No Green Stuff, just chop off the old head, clean up the neck, drill a 2mm hole, snip a new head off the sprue leaving a couple of mm of the 'neck' spigot, and pop it into place with a spot of superglue. Simples :)

In other news...
I note this morning that Royal Mail have arbitrarily jacked their postage prices up across the board by a very punchy 15% - 20% ::)
Unfortunately, it means that my flat rate £2.50 UK shipping cost is going to have to increase accordingly, and international shipping costs as well. Just so you know... :(
-
Huzzah!
-
Very nicely done 8)
-
Excellent! The head sprues should prove popular! :)
-
Those separate heads will be extremely useful. A figure can look completely different just with a different head in a different position.
-
....the guys with two pistols and the carbine from the Moss Troopers, they really do look like a 17th Butch & Sundance bursting out the stables….
Someone made a similar comment about my BM Moss Troopers; 17thC gunslingers. :D
-
great sculpts.
-
Thanks :)
-
These are just the figures to reinvigorate my ECW zombie survival game. So characterful. :)

Indeed. Thanks Paul. I've now painted the sample headswaps shown on the previous page. As you say, when you compare the adapted versions with the originals, the change of heads mkae quite a difference.

Splendid stuff. The heads are perfect and transform the figures completely. :)

Wicked cool :D

Slightly odd question, but do you know how the Bloody Miniatures figures scale with Frontrank late 17th C figures?

Slightly odd question, but do you know how the Bloody Miniatures figures scale with Frontrank late 17th C figures?
Not odd at all :) I'm also using the chaps in the long Dutch coats alongside Front Rank Sedgemoor figures for my long cherished Lorna Doone project :) They fit very well. If anything the FR figures are a whisker larger, but there's not much in it.
Meanwhile, release 3 is now available in the Bloody web shop 8)

Yes, it’s on the list if the first set of separate heads sells okay. Early days, but they’re going reasonably well so far.
Got mine Friday, very happy with them. I am still a huge fan of Bloody miniatures.
Thank you Dirk 8)
