I'm really liking my read of the Dragon Rampant ruleset. How similar is this? What's the model count per side? How easy to play? What eras/games have you played with it?
Any other pros, cons or general thoughts?

However, I might like The Men Who Would Be King better for the simple fact that the activation method always allows you to do something in these rules. However, they are colonial, not specific to warfare in North America.

I play with ACW and AWI in 28mm, infantry are usually 12 figure units but can be 6 for light infantry or skirmish units and 18 figures for a large unit, cavalry units are 6 or 12 figures strong.
The rules give a fun, fast game that will not break the bank.

Yes. The previous books had all been played by the time it was released and so the games mechanics were well understood by the players. The games are enjoyable and there's enough in the rules to allow
Whilst the most recent games were for a Napoleonic Peninsular Campaign, there have been a number of American Revolutioary War games. The games don't require huge units and the advent of plastic figures has reduced the cost of gaming considerably.

I've played AWI games during lockdown over Table Top Simulator and prior to that used on the real table top for AWI and SYW in the Caribbean and for other periods including 1848 and 1860 Italy, Crimean War, 2nd Schleswig Holstein War and Franco-Prussian War.
I really like the rules and the games have always been enjoyable with them. The officers characteristics and background usually make for an interesting extra dimension and the double 1/double 6 events often throw something unusual into the mix.
Best of all, no chits, counters or other bits on the table. Flexible set of rules, well worth a look.

My pal has.been and I love Rebels and Patriots. We have played AWI but most of our games have been ACW. We intend in the future to stretch it to 1745 Jacobites and War of 1812.
In my opinion it is a great little toolbox ruleset.
The rules were very easy to learn as we had already played Pikeman's Lament and The Men Who Would Be Kings, but I consider it an improvement on the latter set.
There is no figure ratio mentioned, but I like to imagine a 1:8 ratio so that a unit of 12 represents a company of about 96 men. That makes it really suitable for the War of 1812 or FIW where detached companies of British had to hold isolated forts and outposts.

We have used them, since they were published, for AWI and French Revolution games. A very adaptable and enjoyable set of rules.
