Title: Help with fanatic Gauls.
Post by: Tim Haslam on March 31, 2021, 07:01:08 PM
I’m putting a force together of mainly fanatic Celts/Gauls
Most of my figures will be the Victrix naked Gallic warriors set.
I’ve mixed in the usual metal types from, Warlord, Crusader etc.
But I’m after a couple of heroic fantasy types, just to add a bit of difference to the look.
I’ve tried Hassle Free and Heresy, with a couple of hopefuls from those guys.

Any other suggestions?
Basically I’m after naked blokes I can pass off as nutty Celts!
But perhaps larger than life (pun intended!!! lol)

Cheers

The axes aren't really Gallic, but the Wargames Foundry norse berserkers might fit the bill otherwise:

This Foundry chap fits the bill:

The weird sorcerer and evil priestess from Northstar might be handy too:

My naked Gallic fanatics are all from Old Glory and are a bit dated.  I don't know how small they are compared to newer Victrix and other lines.   https://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CWG-07

For a hero, though, you can look at Eureka's Cu Chulainn:
https://www.eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=11691 (I didn't post his piccie here as he is nudders).

Some good suggestions guys, thanks.
I’ve already press ganged those naked Germans into the force.

That figure from Eureka is awesome!
I wonder if it’s worth posting the single model to the UK?

Keep up the good work.

I’ve also ordered a giant from the Copplestone 15mm barbarian range.
He’s 40mm high, so just a big bloke at 28mm scale.
He’s almost naked! Lol

I’ll check out those other thanks.
This army should start looking good now.
I just want it to remain historical but with a hint of myth about it.
After all any Romans they fight will be telling very tall tales about them!

I’ve ordered the Eureka model too.

On the same subject, except maybe not naked, I’m also after druids?
I figure religion would have played a major role in these early fanatic forces.
I’ve got the cool Druid type that comes in the Victrix chariot set.
But any other suggestions?
Remember a little hint of fantasy is ok, just not multiple skulls like GW make!

I've got the druid mini from Gorgon Miniatures. He's wearing pants, but he's definitely nutty  lol

I've got another unpainted druid figure who actually is naked but I can't remember the manufacturer... I'll have a think and report back!
Edit: found him! https://www.relicminiatures.com/product/druid-1/

Hello Tim,

There is two set of Druids in the Westwind arthurian range.
they are pretty cool included a sacrifial vignette (no picture on the website)

and that one, i convert it into Druids :

the WH flagellants from GW are a good set too for conversion.

i have in mind to use the Westwind's Russian priest too. With some change they can be turn easily into cet priests.

have e lot of fun

cheers

Lots of Druid types around, ditto recommend the Westwind sacrifice.
Picture on this site: http://theleutnantsdiary.blogspot.com/2011/06/druids-at-work.html

I assume you've seen these guys from Warlord?

They're smaller figures though, the Westwind ones are slightly larger.

There are also various nude Greeks like these light infantry from Foundry:

I recall the guy with two sickles is a smaller 28mm, might look small compared to Victrix but excellent figure on a command stand.
If you don't mind taller 28mm figures then these females would make good druidesses, perhaps in black clothing.

Look at the new Ragnorok miniatures Kickstarter ending soon. There are some great naked berserkers, they look like great models to make into Celts.
