I’m about 2 weeks away from launching my 1066 Kickstarter. These figs have been underway for several years now, starting out as a project just for me and then getting completely away from my initial limited ambitions.
Most of the figs in this project have been worked on extensively in the masters phase to provide maximum character variety within the sets.

Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Launch date will be April 22.

Unfortunately I already have Norman and Saxon armies. But these look lovely figures and I wish you success in your venture.
-
Excellent figures
-
They look lovely.
-
Good luck! Those are some amazing figures (and paint jobs!)... :o

And here I was trying to limit my Kickstarter expenses...
-
I'll be backing this because I don't have enough 11thC figures.... ::) It doesn't look like there will be any unarmoured mounted Normans though- is that correct?

Not this batch but they will be coming, perhaps as later add-ons. There will be two unarmoured Saxon riders though.

Interesting. Might get me a couple of units ( or more ). Need? Mmm. Want? Definitely. lol

The minis look lovely and having slapped paint on enough of your's over the years I know they'll be a joy to paint 8)
However, I worry that you'll be limited to North American backers due to the present climate and worries about duties and handling fees.
Also, bearing in mind that SAGA players are, probably, your core market, the pack sizes don't 'work' for them - multiples of 4 makes more sense; no one is going to 'need' 15 slingers for example.... a 12 figure levy pack works much better. I fully realise that 15/16 figs fill a mould but sometimes less is more.
Despite the negativity I widh you best of luck with the KS.

The two ‘Raiders Pledge’ levels are designed to be suitable for Saga players and so come, for the most part in 8s and 12s. The two that come in 5 are simply because it would be silly to pull one figure out of the command packs.
Otherwise, the 5 figure packs are my standard format and have to do with how many figures I can fit in the mould. I also have a standard, company base pack price.
The 14/15 variant sets are going to be offered as either 5 or 6 figure packs, or as a Formation pack of 16. 16, being the closest I think to the average unit size, or in the case of Saga, multiples of 4.
Loosing backers due to UK import practices is simply a fact of life. However, Nick and North Star will eventually have to range, probably by year end. All of the moulds will have to be set up again before they are remade. A rather big job.
Thanks for your observations!
-
Just to be clear. Sets such as the Saxon Archers will be available two ways:
As a regular 5 figure pack that will guarantee one of each basic pose in the pack, chosen from one of the three possible variants of that pose.
Also, as a 16 figure Formation set. These 16 fig sets will be chosen with as much attention given to variety as possible but a few duplicates will be inevitable as their are only 15 total variants and there will be some mis-casts when running the mould.
-
Looking more closely, I have a few more questions.
1) what is the unit builder thing?
2) will the mule driver and women/children also be available separately?
3) is there anything like a distributor agreement to make shipping and the like easier for those of us who live in Europe?

A Unit-Builder set is a set that has one pose designed to fit in a tight formation. As a regular pack, they come 6 to a pack.
I have such sets in my Pulp Figures range but here, in the 1066 range, they come with assorted head variants.
The Mule Trains pack and the Women & Children pack will be available separately as well as bonus packs for some of the rewards.
Sorry, no EU distributer. Everything will be shipping from Canada.

Working on the stretch goals for the 1066 Kickstarter. One of the sets will be Noble Ladies. If you have any High Born Ladies of the period thoughts please let me know them.
This young woman will be one of the designs:

She looks very interesting!
As for other ladies, things that would be interesting to have would be a proper old lady, and perhaps also a pregnant one. That gives a fair bit of variety and also makes for interesting additions to scenarios.

Superb additions! :o
In this period, I could suggest Havoise of Brittany, but I'm biased... :D and almost nothing is known about her.

I’m preparing the Stretch Goals this coming week before launch. There will be the 5 High Born Ladies which will be previewed through sketches and a 5 fig Clergy set. Here are the first two from that, still being worked on but shpuld be finished before launch.
-
How will these scale up with other ranges? As I have a few of the old citadel normans
-
They are standard 28mm which compare well in size with Gripping Beast, Footsore and Warlord.
-
The mounted and dismounted versions of William and Odo.

Love the mail- very nicely sculpted.

The 1066 Kickstarter preview page is now live for everyone. I’ll be adding more pictures of the sets and doing the stretch goal illustrations over the next week. Take a look and please share if you to help get the word out.
The project goes live on April 22nd.

The models are excellent and I’m really tempted to pledge. However, I’m afraid that postage, customs etc. to my home in the EU (Germany) might be a dealbreaker.

I can only suggest that when it comes to shipping that you will have the option of choosing surface mail. This is about half the cost of airmail, it just takes about two months to reach the EU.
We will be keeping the declared value of the shipments on the low side as well.
-
Surface mail would be excellent. Much appreciated :).
-
Thank you. Surface mail is perfect for me as well. I have no need to have everything arrive very quickly given the already existing pile of shame.

Some ideas for civilian costumes.
BTW, I love your style, Bob. Your sculpting is superb. I have lots in my collection and I hope to keep adding! Perhaps your KS will inspire some Anglo-Norman building projects!

Most of the pledge levels for the 1066 Kickstarter will receive as a bonus, either the Mule Train pack or the Women & Children pack. The larger pledge levels will receive both.

Bob, will Robert de Beaumont be available as a paid add-on for backers who pledge after the 2 days?
Btw: really like the grim facial expressions on the charging Normans.

That would be excellent, thanks.

That would be nice to see some companions for William.
Cheers.

Either way we are happy for you to join the backers. I'm looking to unlock as many of the stretch goals as possible. I'm adding Isabel of Conches to the list of upcoming stretch goals as soon as we break 15000 which is very close now.

All of the High-Born Ladies Stretch Goals have now unlocked. I'm going to add two more, Isabel of Conches in armour and on foot, and Isabel in courtly garb. That way the Isabel figs can be their own pack after the KS.
Also, here is the catalogue image for 10504, Saxon Unarmoured Warriors.
We have about nine days left on this Kickstarter. Please, if you can, help get the word out.

Hi Bob will the ladies and the mule train be available after the Kickstarter?
Hi Helen, yes, they will be part of the range. Actually, you should be able to add the mule-train as an Add-On when the survey arrives which will be a few weeks or a month from now.
