Title: Medieval Axum and Nubia - Research Help Needed
Post by: warwell on April 13, 2021, 04:02:36 AM
Doing some research on medieval Axum and Nubia. Found a couple of good pictures online. They appear to be from Ospreys, but I cannot determine which books.

Can anyone identify the sources?

Here are links to the pictures:

I think you have accidently posted the same link twice as your two links are the same; that image is from Rome's Enemies (5): The Desert Frontier, Men-at-Arms series #243.

Is the second link supposed to be this fellow?

If so, that image is from The Armies of Islam 7th-11th Centuries, men-at-Arms series #125.

As Codsticker has said both from Osprey MAA books. Whilst both have beautiful Angus McBride plates the text is a tad thin, as the subject matter being covered is very broad. That said I'm not aware of anything else readily available specifically on the army. I do have in my collection "The Medieval Kingdoms of Nubia" by Derek Welsby published by The British Museum Press but it is a book covering art, architecture as well as history.
