Title: Los Vesparados; Los rojos van más rápido
Post by: Dags on April 14, 2021, 03:09:55 PM
A while back I came across the following cartoon and thought, as you do, they would make aces minis....

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49332991147_235d8f58a8_o.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2iaotwT)

Thanks to LAF's own tin shed gamer my dream has come true....

This is the first one - still warm from the master mould - of 3 that Mark's done - to say I'm chuffed would be an understatement!

The other 2 to follow as I get time  o_o

That's awesome - I would probably be in for a set of just the riders so I could make the Raptor Bandits from the Dr McNinja webcomic.

Thanks all (though most of the praise should go to Mark for the putty pushing)

I'm now looking at a 106mm recoiless in the bits box and thinking of  scratching something completely daft for Gaslands!

Is it bad that I want these for my post-apoc world?

No - I'll be using them for Gaslands and they'll also be making an appearance in a PA game at Salute (if it happens  o_o)

In response to the PMs regarding these; they won't be 'commercially' available - I haven't got the time or the inclination to start a miniatures business (no matter how small) and I've seen what happens to those that do  ;)  However, at some point I will make a production mould (at the moment there's only a master mould and it takes 3 spins to get a complete set of 3 scooters, handlebars, bodies, legs & hats - hardly sensible) so there might be a few spares once I have my 'fleet'! So if you are still interested and don't want them NOW drop me a message

Oh come on, you have to let a commercial company put those out.

It ain't going to happen, sorry.

They are an incredibly niche vanity project produced simply because I wanted them and no company in their right minds would ever commission them.

That being said, it's not a case of 'they're my toys and nobody else can play with them'; if fellow LAFfers absolutely need a Mexican bandit on a scooter on their gaming tables I'm happy to help once I've got what I need.

Cancun, Mexico’s answer to Brighton?

I suppose this answers the age old question: ‘What would a Mexican Phil Daniels look like?’ :D

By the by I think you might be wrong about commercial manufacturers unwillingness to cast and sell these. Lovely stuff.

I keep looking at them and trying to work out how to make a lights and mirrors rig.... don't think it could be castable so very labour intensive for more than one

Perhaps - but it isn't going to happen. The economics of moulding and casting (they're not 'light' in terms of metal weight) means that a 'retail' price would be silly in order for someone to make a reasonable profit. As long as I'm able to cover my costs I'm not bothered by that so when I've got spares I'm happy to see them go to loving homes. Making a few bob wasn't the WHY I had them done.

It has.... and I've just managed to break it trying to straighten it  >:(  ::) Hey ho, easy fix with some CA.

It was the 1st one I built and didn't quite get the position right to start off with. Learning experience.

The skull from that new plastic cowboy set would look perfect on the front of the buggy.

Because this is such a wonderful thread, I feel bound to share some inspiration with you.

Two of my favourite Mexican bands:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAS9mtDlV-c

Maybe you can include a tuba in there. It is the most subversive instrument in the orchestra.

Enjoy!

Ah Peru.... The true spiritual home of the surf guitar. Which is odd as I've stood on the clifftops in Lima and peered through the eternal mist at a beach that makes Scarborough look like Ipanema.

It ain't pretty. Fortunately there's almost perpetual fog that shrouds it. Not that you would swim there anyway, the Humboldt Current means the water is freezing.* The wife and I took a day trip many years ago to the beach at Viña del Mar in Chile. Same deal. It was summer and about 35C. the water was arctic. Brrrrr. Still Lima is an interesting city, albeit not the most attractive place on Earth.

* Hence the fog

Apologies

The castings have taken much longer to get than I hoped - but they've arrived this afternoon.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51268274228_ace6243bc9_o.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m7piLy)

They'll be off to those that have been patiently waiting first thing in the morning and there'll be an extra in there for you by way of apology for the wait.

Good news, though, been messing around with the spare torsos I had and the new placcy cowboys set from GEG...

Those look awesome!

Most of Peru's attractions, IMO, are outside of Lima. The Inca Trail is one of the best hikes ever, flying over the Nazca Lines is spectacular, and the attractions around Cuzco are equally great.
