And so it begins, the first recruits of what will end up a 1000 plus figure Turkish army. Building it to cover SYW and Napoleonic periods. 400 infantry (100 were not sent by supplier, chasing them now), 18 Cavalry (to start. Over 500 in the plan), Commanders and artillery. 15mm Figures by Old Glory. Janissaries for example. Will be based for Shako II rules.

Here are the first Battalion of six Nazim units. I know most paint them with black webbing, but as most of their equipment appeared to be French supplied (much to the disgust of Britain), I thought white (and it looks nicer in the figs). 15mm Old Glory based for Shako II. Also some more artillery.

Today I completed the commanders, the Ottomans now have some command😂. General, Corps CO, Divisional CO and ADCs. Figures are 15mm Old Glory, Horses are a mix of AB & Fantassin. All based for Shako II.

More Ottomans. third unit of Nazim-i-Cedit. 15mm Old Glory, all based for Shako II. Getting bored with red now, so painting first unit of militia. European Sekhans, which will be various blues and some odds. Also some Spahis on the bench, waiting for horses to bake (painted in oils).

More Ottoman May!. Did these over three days. Started on the 3rd, even the horses, done in oil paints dried much quicker on the radiator). One unit of Sekhans (2nd Rate), three units of Sipahi Cavalry and an army general Base. All 15mm Old Glory, based for Shako II. The Sekhan should be Light Infantry and only operate in Skirmish, but I have figures for skirmishers to be done later.

Today's 15mm Ottomans. All picked up from B&B over the years. The Bombard/ Mortar and a few other guns came with about 30 of this type of crew. Will probably never use it but had to join the army. The Turkish Militia unit are actually 18th C. Scots. I have based them like this as they are an Unreliable rabble, like the Bazi Bazouks. All based for Shako II

Knocked these out today. Done as Albanian Light Infantry, 15mm Battle Honours Zouves in disguise. Based for Shako II. Also found in the lead stash, some Cavalry that will work for Armoured Sipahi lancers, also some Arab & turkish light Cavalry.

The Ottoman Ortas roll off the line. This time the first unit of Bazi Bazouks for the 18th C. 15mm Old Glory, I used block painting with brown wash on these. not too much time on them as I expect they will never be on the table for very long! based as Unreliable troops for Shako II.

All based for Shako II. And the next units, Another Bazouk unit, another Lancer unit and two light Cavalry bow armed units.

Some years (decades ?) ago I started a 15th century Ottoman army for DBR.
Using Essex 15mm.
Never quite finished it.  Time passed.
Started up again... And my painting style had completely changed.

Thanks Major, it has all kinds of figs form the lead pile, there are some ACW Zouves, Colonial and Medieval cavalry in there.

Still not even half way through, but commitment is my middle name with projects!

15mm Ottoman Army update. Progressing well atm. Here are two weeks worth. various makes Old Glory, Fighting 15s, By Fire and Sword and some Mikes Models (these were already painted, from Ebay, just gave them a black wash and rebased them). Also found 3 undercoated French Generals and finished those off.

The Sultan will be pleased. Last weeks 15mm Turkish additions. The Cavalry are an ebay purchase (thanks Don McHugh), and were rebased and matt varnished. I may repaint them at some point, but I like the "old school" look about them. Another unit of Nazim. The Ottoman Cavalry so far on the green baize mat.  All Based for Shako II.

Museum Miniatures have some useful pieces, the cavalry are one-piece castings. Not much variety in their spahis, but they have lots of light cavalry (not listed as Turks - you need to rummage through Huns, Mongols, Persians, Arabs etc, but if you pick just one pack from each you get a good variety of figures)

I usually rummage through the codes of horse-archers each January (the sale has a really good discount) to add to my 17th century Tartar horde, (you can get away with a lot for an irregular mob of light cavalry) but their actual Ottoman cavalry look to be much earlier. I'm hoping they will get some revised/updated sculpts soon (since a few of the other ranges are getting refreshed)
