I've finally started on my 15mm Spanish Civil War project. I've been looking forward to it for ages, and I've really enjoyed painting the Peter Pig models so far. This is the first company I've painted, the British from the 15th International Brigade.

Superb. What rules do you plan to use. I recently bought “For Whom the Dice Rolls” but need to buy and paint more figures before I can use them.
-
Thank you :)
I bought A World Aflame, and will probably use the scenario from it. I like the rules, but I have a few issues with them that I might alter. Being a 28mm skirmish game originally, I'm going to change how casualties are tracked. I'd love it if it had a points system too. I don't mind writing scenarios but it's a lot more work without points.
I'm also considering Crossfire, it looks really fun. I'll probably be playing mostly solo, because I don't know if my group had much interest in this period. I really don't know if Crossfire would work solo, as a lot of its appeal comes from the swapping back and forth between players. Maybe I'll change them around to suit solo play.
I've heard great things about For Whom the Dice Rolls. Am I correct in thinking it is a larger game than company level? Because I'm painting both sides, I don't want to have to buy too many. Does it have a points system? I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Great looking figures
-
Nicely done. I'm painting the same figures. Peter Pig seem to be the go to outfit in 15mm.
-
Misneach, yes "For Whom the Dice Roll" are bigger than Company level . If you Google "Wargaming for Grown Ups" you will find the website with more detail and I think some sample lists, albeit I can't put my finger on them!
-
Thanks everyone 8)
SJWi, it looks like a fun ruleset. Not as many figures needed as I thought. The card system looks particularly interesting!
I posted another SCW unit I finished a while back today. They are a group of Dinamiteros, sling-armed militia. https://airtscorner.blogspot.com/2021/04/big-spanish-civil-war-project-part-2.html?m=1 I'm looking for more information on these guys, and I'd really appreciate if someone could point me in the direction of some more sources.
-
Superb additions. Always found the Peter Pig figures characterful.

Some foreign aid for both sides of the war
-
Superb, love the T-26
-
Thanks 😊 your Moroccan unit looks fantastic!
-
Finished off 3 squads of Nationalist Infantry. I'm not used to painting military colours, so the uniforms had to be done 3 times before I got them right ::) I'm fairly happy with them though. Looking forward to the Moroccans and POUM Militia, as they're very colourful :)

Sorry I'm a bit late on this one. Been working on something else recently. FWTDR is for Brigade/Divisional level battles, and uses figures based like Peter Pig does for his rules on 30mm x 30mm bases (my initial armies were bought as BAIT army packs). A battalion normally consists of 8 bases, with 2-3 figures depending on weapons, with 3 for small arms and 2 for LMGs/HMGs. The rules have army lists in them, and a good game can be had with a brigade aside. If you want to see what a typical game might be then there's a few scenarios in a free pack you can download here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FOqSNdTyf0JNaQhmYgRJklHsREqmU1E2/view (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FOqSNdTyf0JNaQhmYgRJklHsREqmU1E2/view). As someone said, there's a description of how it works on the Wargaming For Grown Ups blog: https://wargaming4grownups.blogspot.com/p/for-whom-dice-rolls-description.html (https://wargaming4grownups.blogspot.com/p/for-whom-dice-rolls-description.html)
It is sad to hear your local group probably won't be interested, as the period has everything just not in large numbers. I'd think that once you've played a game with someone they'll get hooked in. No one in my group was interested until I started setting up games.
-
Looks great
SCW is on my must do one day list although I will probably go with 10mm
-
Dave, agreed. If I was starting today I would go 10mm. Shame I have half a Peter Pig 15mm army!
-
I would probably look at 10mm now, but I do like my little Piggies. Fortunately For Whom The dice Rolls work with any size figures, if you can get them on a 30 x 30 base and even then it's not essential.
-
Thanks

Sounds great - all my SCW stuff is on the Peter Pig basing standards. It works for a lot of other WW2 games like Crossfire. Once I have tried out A World Aflame I'm going to try some other sets too, I'll have to try FWTDR!
I agree, there is so much of interest in this period. I suspect that my group might be interested after all, I can't wait to set up a game!
We have a connection to the SCW in that the Irish members of the International Brigades sailed to Bilbao. from a port about 2 miles away from where I live. The same ferry service is in operation today, and as soon as international travel is allowed again, I'm definitely going to tour the Basque Country :)

Misneach, I have my copy of “For Whom the Dice Rolls”. I just need to buy more figures for a decent-size game.

The one thing I wanted to do with FWTDR was NOT to re-work a set of WW2 rules, but think about the conflict in its own right. Visiting the Basque region is on my to do list.

Just finished some milicianas. Great fun to paint, and a nice break from painting uniforms.

-
Very nice indeed.
-
A few extra bits for the project. A Nationalist T26, some barricades, and two ammo-donkeys!

Nice work on the T26
-
Thank you :)

I finished some stuff for both sides this week. I was dreading painting the Foreign Legion, but I'm happy they're done now. For the Republicans I did another squad of POUM and a Schneider CA1.
-
Lovely work
-
The Spanish foreign Legion and the trucks are absolutely superb, im using the Peter Pig. SCW. range to add variety to my 15mm AVBCW armies great little figures and your painting has given me loads of ideas thank you
-
Likewise, lovely stuff.
-
Really nice stuff. Eclectic and really well painted.

Thanks everyone :)
Wellington Bonaparte, that sounds like a great idea! I would really like to see your AVBCW stuff, do you have a link to a post? It's a fantastic setting and I'd love to paint something for it in future 8)

Just finished up a company of Moroccan Regulares. I'm in the home stretch on this project now, I only have a squad of militia and a Nationalist plane left to do!
I got started on the terrain for the Battle with the Casa Blanca that was defended by the British Battalion.

Those Moroccans are superb

They are good.

Thank you 8)

Very nearly done with the whole project. I'm really looking forward to playing the game at last. This week I finished the POUM and some other bits and pieces. Only a Nationalist plane and some terrain left to do.
-
It's an excellent collection and will look great on the table top.
-
Thanks 8)
-
Part 10 of the project sees the completion of the last unit needed, a Nationalist aeroplane, and the beginning of some trees!

That plane is superb

Finished up some "Spain terrain". Fairly basic stuff, just roads, forests and cardboard hills
-
Great terrain
-
A job well done there. Very effective.
