Hallo,
this is my first entry in this forum. I'm playing Wargames for more than 25 years and after a long period with Warhammer and 40K, I started with the LotR-Game in 2005 - actually I always played my Wargames in MiddleEarth, for the lecture of Tolkien`s books was the reason to buy my first blister of miniatures...
After some travels to ancient and dark-age Games (saga), I returned to LotR about two years ago and now I'm optimating my old warbands for the actual rules.
More than playing I like to build some Miniatures, and that's what You will see here: Modified, scratch-built or heavily converted miniatures for a MiddleEarth-setting.
Have fun and enjoy it...
-
Nice!
-
Good intro. Looking forward to the next post.
-
Chapter I: The Origins
Let's start with some history:
I started collecting my armies when I was just a poor student and money was rare. That's why I tryed to build my units in al low-budget way...
This was the state of my warbands, before I came back with the actual rules:

-
Great looking groups as well as settings for the photos.
-
I wanted the miniatures to be as cheap and effectively as possible. So I did some little weapon-swaps and self made standards:

Fantastic, love seeing all these Middle Earth projects being active!
-
These are absolutely superb. I just randomly started getting a Tolkien urge a few weeks back, grabbing a few audiobooks and listening to a few youtube channels, and now I'm seeing all these amazing projects for the period.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of these!
-
Chapter II: Characters
I never really stopped paintig LotR-models, but I collected them just for fun, without using them in any wargames. This is why I have now some well known middle-earth-citizens to show:
-
You have some very nice miniatures that are well painted. The conversions are also very well done, and I really like your background terrain in the photos. Keep them coming.
Out of interest, in the Istari picture, where does the miniature for the wizard on the left come from?
-
Thanks ...

This is "Merlin" from FootsoreMiniatures as I've noticed right now.(https://footsoreminiatures.co.uk/collections/darkages20/products/lancelot-and-merlin).
I got this some years ago as special mini that was for free as part of an order...
-
Wow these are wonderful the freehand is great. I love your backdrops for your photographs did you just print out the photos and use them as a backdrop?
-
Thanks for sharing these, they look really good and looking forward in seeing the next installements already!
-
Beautiful, inspirational paint jobs!
-
Thank You all for the feedback...
I love your backdrops for your photographs did you just print out the photos and use them as a backdrop?
Those are huge high-quality posters that were part of a GEO-calendar (I think GEO is the German variant for National Geographic...)
Of course I have some badcharacters as well:
-
Great work!
-
The OSL is amazing!
-
Outstanding!
-
Chapter III: Moria
In fact I don't really like the goblin models - they look too uniformed and organized.
So I just did some easy conversions for bosses, shamans, a drum, goblin prowlers and warg marauders and gave them a speed-paint-job...
-
Chapter IV: the Rangers
Today I show you some Rangers: selfmade Arathorn with son and some converted Rangers of the North:
-
Now that's a fine collection already.
-
Brilliant ideas on the ranger conversions. Inspiring!
-

Thank You, I'm a real fan of ancient and dark-age plastic-kits, especially the parts of gripping beast and conquest games. Unfortunately the poses often look unnaturaly if You don't use some greenstuff...
-
Beautiful rangers!
-
Chapter V: Angmar
Let's stay in the north:

Painting style and the individualisations :-* :-*
-
Awesome I can only hope my Angmar models get anywhere near how well yours look.
-
The Witch King of Angmar seems really menacing, he surely means business.
-
A fantastic collection of models. That is a very well integrated force that will look great on the battlefield.
-
Okay, I'll ask - what are those dead dudes carrying so carefully?
-
Lovely minis. Are the trolls from GW?
-
Okay, I'll ask - what are those dead dudes carrying so carefully?
They carry "pale lights". Gollum said: "You should not look in when the candles are lit." I interprete the Dead March Spectres as kind of Ghost Lights that lure wanderers into the swamp (that's what their special rule does...).
Lovely minis. Are the trolls from GW?
Thanks, no, they are from www.norbaminiatures.com, but they're no longer available...
-

Huh, interesting. Thanks for that.
-
Will o' the wisps?
-
Will o' the wisps?
Yeah, that's it - learned a new word...
-
Good question, what are they carrying? Their life force, spirit light, something more sinister?
I am amazed at the amount of sculpting and the skill.
-
Fantastic collection of work. I love the atmospheric shots in particular.
-
Great work, love the themed approach and excellent paintjobs!

One of my favourite "northern kingdoms" ist the shire:

Great looking collection of halflings.
Could you tell us the recipe for the Tookish hunters please - they look grand. I recognise a few bits but not all.
-
Brilliant work on those Hobbits mate.

Thank You for that...
Could you tell us the recipe for the Tookish hunters please - they look grand. I recognise a few bits but not all.
The hunters are made from the Fellowship-Hobbits. They are cheap at Ebay and You find them in a dozen poses. I made hoods from GS and changed the weapons... Thats ist.

I forgot one of my favourite hobbits:

Three is company
Anywhere halfway to Bucklebury Ferry three surprised hobbits meet some very well informed Elves. Gildor Inglorion give some good advice to the wanderers, for example to stay away from the roads...

That's how they looked unpainted - the metall one should bei Gildor himself:

Great work!
-
Wonderful conversions and paint jobs - great looking bunch of elves.
-
Excellent elves and those lamps are very clever, I might steal that idea :)
-
... those lamps are very clever, I might steal that idea :)
You're welcome - I stole the pearls myself from my little daughter ...
I was torn back and forth either to paint them yellow (better looking) or blue (like the origin in Tuor's tales...) - but blue light looks too "ghostly" in my oppinion...
And Thank You all for the feedback.

A Short Cut to Mushrooms
Following Gildor's Short Cut, three Hobbits reached the yard of farmer Maggot:

A Conspiracy unmasked
Just a little time after four conspiring Hobbits rode away, Fredegar Bolger is visited in Crickhollow by some dark guys. Luckily he could clear out and alarm some angry Bucklanders...

Love Tom Bombadil. One of my favorite characters, and such a bummer to see him cut from the Peter Jackson movies.

Yeah, I love this guy, too. At the first time, when I watched the movies I was dissapointed about cutting him out, but over the times the scenes, that didn't make it into the movies became my favourite ones, like a special treasure for the reading community...

Brilliant. Really enjoying these pics. I just watched the three films again in the last week (the extended 4 hour versions), so this is a timely reminder of how much I enjoyed them. ;D
-
Ah, the Ring goes south. Thankfully the franchise doesn't go south until the second trilogy. ;D
Nice one. Nothing against Liv Tyler, but it's nice to see Glorfindel. Possibly the greatest bad-ass in the book, and they didn't give him hardly anything to do! Always felt that the whole 'it's better to rely on stealth, his might will only attract the eye of the enemy' idea, while sound from a storytelling point of view, was just plain dumb as a tactic. You've already got a Demi-god in your party, for Pete's sake. Bet they regretted not bringing him when they got to Moria...
Gandalf: This foe is beyond any of you. RUN!
Glorfindel: Guys, I got this. Hold my Beer.
-
Absolutely fabulous yet again :-*

Brilliant work!
-
Wow, very impressive, great work!
-
Some lovely green-stuff work there. The dwarf force is a great collection of minis, and look good up against those dragons.
-
Excellent!
-
Fantastic, so well done!
-
Super job!
-
I don’t like the dwarves’ odds against those dragons, but the miniatures and photography are beautiful! Thanks for sharing the work-in-progress photos, too, it is always good to see how the magic is done.

10 from 13 survived the reconquest of the lonely mountain and some of them tried to "redwarf" Moria again...
I wanted my "Balins Reconquista" to look in some way dark age inspired to seperate them from the glory past of the dwarven kingdoms. I based all models on the dwarven rangers (as well as Thorin&Co.) to get the look of some wandering dwarves on the march. I mixed them up with GrippigBeast-Viking-Bits for the northern flair:

I love it!
I used a lot of the dwarf rangers in my own dwarf army, but never thought of swapping in dark ages heads and sculpting mail on to convert them into armoured warriors. Your conversions turned out great!
-
Wonderful conversions - hardly recognised them for what they originally were.
A great looking warband too. Plenty of different troop types to make it more versatile and fun to play. Lovely work.
-
Great work yet again!
