Title: Rules for Terminator needed
Post by: mictator on May 05, 2021, 07:52:59 PM
Hello,

Need rules for a Terminator Tabletop. Skirmish or small to medium Army's.

Try a fistful of Lead-Basicrules from Wiley Games.

You could probably find the warlord terminator rules online for free with a little looking - but I think any sci fi system would probably do the job.

I think you would do well with the Infinity ruleset, it can handle games with 6-40 figures aside.

The rules are by far the best sci-fi skirmish I've ever played and with all the troop types available you should be able to find a stat line that is a good proxy for what you want to put in your game without having to make changes.

There are a ton of different weapon options as well and most troop types are able to access many of the weapon options for their army.

the Terminator Genysis rules by River Horse weren't bad, although the game got dropped before too much was developed for it. You can probably find the rulebook fairly cheaply on ebay- it had rules for more troop rules (Hunter Killers, different models of Terminator etc)

The official Terminator miniatures game by Alessio Cavatore is really great.

Unfortunately, the movie that the licensing deal was based on (Genisys) was a financial failure. This led to the premature end of the miniatures game. The game itself is truly a masterwork.

Despite the premature demise of the product line, the game already had rules for all kinds of stuff, including quite a bit of future wars content, such as Resistance technicals and HK Aerials, etc, etc.

I would highly, highly recommend getting a copy of the rulebook.

No generic or homebrew ruleset or attempt to cobble something together from other genres is going to measure up to the fantastic game Alessio already created specifically for this IP.

Ditto on the Terminator Genesis rules.

There is some real gold in those rules, I have a copy that I brought some time ago for less than £5. The Terminator minis are pretty good, but the human resistance minis were quite bad IHMO. But there are many better alternatives out there.

Check them out here:

But probably cheaper 2nd hand ;)

Aye, I got the boxed set too when it was on sale for like a fiver. Haven't played the rules yet, but I might if people say they're that good.

My usual go-to rules for sci-fi would be 5150:Star Army, which may fit your requirements well since they're very much written with solo/coop play in mind, featuring - if you want - heroic figures. For squad-level stuff or smaller you can give the sci-fi variant of Song of Blades and Heroes (or Flying Lead for that matter).

Totally agree. Simple and elegant rules with enough tactical depth. And also a great rules set if you're looking for a game to play with kids.

Is the Rules from Alessio are in the Boxed Set or must I buy the Rules from Warlord Games?

I believe they are one and the same?

I have the warlord rules, look really interesting (Like so many other sets they remain unplayed)
They did cover a whole raft of stuff I didn't expect human tanks, helicopters etc and larger terminator vehicles.
Quite comprehensive and a real shame they didn't take off.

There were two box sets and two sets of rules. The deluxe box set had the complete rules. The regular box set had an abridged set. The rules are quite good and had some really interesting things in them to tie it to TERMINATOR. I tend to like bigger games though and will use Wiley Games Bigger Battles set for my large Terminator games.

Thanks.

A friend of mine was running a pretty interesting Terminator force for Rogue Stars that had the right feel.

I'm hoping he's still around since I last saw him a couple weeks before lockdowns and he was the one managing several house rules we were using for things like vehicles.

Could you use Fubar?

I have used Fubar to run a MASSIVE game. I did it at Cincycon about 3 or 4 years ago. I had M1 tanks, LAVs plus some other vehicles and lots of resistance troops vs 3 tracked Hunter killers and 24-30 terminators including some bike terminators. Game was ending when a shapeshifting terminator revealed himself near John Connor. It was a large game. I helped develop Fubar for BIG games. I like them. I still think Wiley games Bigger Battles would be a solid choice. Here are pics of my TERMINATOR game at Cincycon.

Hi mictator,

I have the Terminator Genisys rules as a PDF. I also have the QRS, errata and cards PDFs.

If you PM me with your e-mail address, I will send them to you.

With luck, I'll be able to see him in about 2 1/2 weeks or shortly after it...game store is reopening general things then when Ohio opens up and he tended to live in the other direction. He was distributing printed versions of them due to working in a print shop, which I don't know if it's still open.

If you fancy using the figures for smaller, more detailed skirmishes the "Exterminator" rpg rules from Cartridge Games are very good.

Exterminator uses the Cepheus System (free to download) which is basically a cleaned up version of Traveller and is great for scifi skirmish gaming. There are several other themed settings available for it, "Hostile" being particularly good.
