Title: US Marines Camp/Base in Solomons type scenario?
Post by: Smokeyrone on May 14, 2021, 12:57:59 AM
Our planned campaign/serial games are on Fookyiu Island, a lesser known spot in the Solomons, near Florida Isle.

Made a simple Japanese Base camp, near the pending airfield, and now considering the Marines base.

Various tents and tarp covered, stick framed buildings, like pictures of Quadalcanal and the "Pacific" series????

Quonset huts?  Pre fab corregated builds?

Whats the norm?

I think on Guadalcanal they put up with mouldering canvas for quite some time. Of course once somewhere has been secured and the Seabees move in, Quonsets, plywood and tin latrines, refrigerators, a PX, you name it. Depends whether you want the freshly captured and gritty look or the McHale’s Navy look.

I would go with tents. On Guadalcanal they were under constant bombardment until the end. On the other islands, it was all over too quickly to build up Quonset huts and such. Basically, you don’t start permanent  buildings until the fighting is over.
