Nice work on the conversions and biographic articles!

By the way, in bookmarking that page, I noticed that the title is still ... "title"!

Dang! Thanks for the good feedback.
I will change that ASAP. These were older pages and some new so I figured I would create new gaffes.
Sorry it will mess up your bookmarks, but I’m happy you noticed.
I will confirm here when fixed.

All very pretty indeed. It's inspiring stuff and a period I've long related to since high school studies (all those moons ago). Simple but great thinking about how you altered the decals/transfers - particularly like Brasidas.

I particularly love Brasidas, Jeff.

Thank you! I will be updating that with notes from of this new book:

Two Deaths at Amphipolis: Cleon vs Brasidas in the Peloponnesian War
by Mike Roberts

Lovely shield painting Jeff.

I never liked the Oracles in WAB much.  I thought instead philosophers, poets or playwrights would have been a good replacement for standard bearers in a Greek Hoplite army.  I know they probably looked like everyone else but we might have got some fun special figures.  :D

I actually agree with you. I wanted to re-write the system for Greeks entirely, but then others were concurrently writing a Persian Wars book. There was no meeting of the minds due to lack of proximity, and lack of coherent editing at the time. Because I never knew if AoA Greeks were ever going to be replaced, I decided to just follow along. The result was less than satisfactory since few people liked the Rise of Macedon list (because the Oracles could and did suck).

[Edit: And as it turns out the oracles were wrong for the Macedonian phalanx and hypaspists who seem to have had them as part of their organization (called supernumaries (exceeding the usual number) and they stood behind the phalanx) by Philip, so the whole idea kind of Oracles sinks into the wine colored sea in hindsight].

I certainly agree that having a priest, orator, or sacrifice models would be simply a great substitute for banners. Especially with models like these:

and the Socrates model, and so many more since.

My attempted solution, back then, was to have the leader be combined with the standard effects for 10 pts. But that was kind of breaking the core rules- one of the barriers of the core rules we were guided not to mess with. Later Allen Curtis gave out free command figures to solve the small unit problem, which also kind of went against the grain, but this solved the problem "in period", albeit by giving the Republican Romans about 100 extra points advantage per 2000 pts. - but they needed it.

Definitely in WAB the options should always have been geared to playability and cool models over miniutiae.

In later years I always ruminated the L/S/M should always be free in WAB. So every decent quality formed unit gets the LSM equivalent for free. Light troops only get a L/M. Skirmishers only an L. Levies and others get no extra frills on a case by case basis. So everybody has it- except some of the more dreadful units, that th eplayer may have to assign an expensive officer to. One could then get rid of all the anomalies and oracles. But rumination is ruination in some eyes!
