Title: Another Spanish Civil War 15mm project
Post by: OB on May 19, 2021, 11:08:21 AM
Greatly assisted by the work of others on this board I've started on my 15mm Spanish Civil War project.  International Brigaders first and then the  ladies and gentlemen of the Anarchist Militia.  Peter Pig  figures.

Gotta say I love the look of your stuff, as always. The round bases are a good choice, and if starting from scratch I might have gone that way too.

Thanks both.  The undiluted ink wash does a lot of the work.  I let it dry overnight and then paint over and highlight.

Great looking models! I especially like the bases.
Are they for FWTDR?

Thanks Misneach.

I don't know which rules I'll be using yet hence the round bases.  I thought they'd fit with most options.

A little more progress.  Spanish regulars who could used for either side.  Figures from Peter Pig and gun from QRF.  I have two of each but singly made for a better photograph.

I've put together my progress in a blog post.  There are Spanish Regulars, Assaltos and Falangists and La Legion.  Below, the Connolly Column part of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion.

You can certainly use them with "For Whom The Dice Rolls". There are some orbats in the scenarios in this pack: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FOqSNdTyf0JNaQhmYgRJklHsREqmU1E2/view

Jon Freitag did a detailed examination of the card activation sequence. If you missed it, it's here:http://palousewargamingjournal.blogspot.com/2021/05/players-note-activation-and-resource.html (http://palousewargamingjournal.blogspot.com/2021/05/players-note-activation-and-resource.html)

I read Jon's blog with interest Trebian.

I have a few more pics on my blog of my Spanish Civil War 15mm project progress.  I’ve made a start on the Armour for both sides and there are some Carabinieros and more regular infantry.

They're nice models. I keep an eye on the YDNKTN blog. I have those QRF PZ1's as well. I liked them, Less keen on the T-26s. I went with the Peter Pig models. For BT-5s use Zvezda.

I don't have any Carabineros, mostly because I couldn't see that they were deployed in great numbers. I like the look of the light grey tho'.

Yes, I know what you mean. I like the Zvezda T26 better, it seems more substantial even though it's plastic.  Peter Pig are reliably good throughout.

That's it for my Carabinieros, one unit only.  I couldn't miss doing the uniform.

Much as I like Martin Goddards stuff, I'd have gone Zvezda on the T26s if they'd been available at the time. Now I have many PP models of them, so I'm sticking with it.

The Zvezda BA10 is nice too, and close enough to a BA6

Some street fighting gal's here. I've another 8 in mono's. That pretty much finishes the rank and file for my Women's Battalion.  I now need to add a standard bearer and a couple of command.

Thanks Scotty.

They are Peter Pig.  In fact, I've come to realize that if you're doing the SCW in 15mm Peter Pig is pretty much all that's out there as far as figures go.

That said I like them and it's a comprehensive range.  I've just finished converting the Women's Battalion command group by giving some figures long hair made of Green Stuff.  It's come out nicely enough  I'll post some pics of the whole group when they're painted.

Lovely work on your SCW collection. Peter Pig miniatures are wonderful to work with.

I'm looking forward to the Spanish Foreign Legion being remade in approx six months time according to Martin, but that will depend on the vagaries of life in covid times.

Thanks Helen, I've enjoyed painting the various factions.

I hadn't realised that Martin was adding to the range.  Good news indeed.

Helen, I recall Martin also mentioned somewhere that he was thinking of adding another pack of Moors.  Did you get any impression of how many new packs we might expect?

Thanks.

Hello OB, not aware of the Moors or how many packs Martin was thinking of for the Spanish Foreign Legion. I would expect just the one pack at this stage.

Cheers.

True and it doesn't often happen.  Mostly mine are open ended.

As projects go this one has been quite self contained.  There are still a few bits to do but the figures are all painted and I already had the scenic stuff.

I gave my Spanish Civil War game Arriba é Non Pasaran it’s first outing.

It’s pretty much a synthesis.  Ideas and systems have been freely adopted and adapted to produce a card driven game. There is an after- action report on my blog if it’s of interest.

The pic’s below are from the game.

The first Zvezda T-26 was the later S model, but I believe they finally released the early model with the correct turret.  Their BT-5 uses that early turret as well.  I expect a BA-6 from Zvezda, since they have the earlier turret to go with the BA-10 body?

I bought my Pz Is, T-26s, and BA-6s pre-Zvezda and pre-Minairons from the Old Glory Command Decision range.  I like the lighter plastic that Zvezda and Minairons use, but the OGs are paid for, painted, and based!

Yes, I know what you mean. I like the Zvezda T26 better, it seems more substantial even though it's plastic.  Peter Pig are reliably good throughout.

That's it for my Carabinieros, one unit only.  I couldn't miss doing the uniform.
