Title: Gestir for Warhammer Ancient Battles- Well blow me! Here's another! 22/05/2021
Post by: Atheling on May 21, 2021, 11:59:49 AM
I found this pic whilst trying to extract some files from an old steam powered laptop!

All from Gripping Beast, very OOP Colin Patten sculpts in Milliput (yep, they're that old). I managed to pester Darren to cast 21 of these suckers for me- 20 years ago and given a paint job at that time too!

Just thought I would share- salad days and all that :)

I’ve always thought the original Colin Patten sculpted ranges for Gripping Beast were a great deal better than most of the second generation offerings. Nice to see these  :)

Thanks guys, it was a pleasant surprise to come across the image. I've spend all evening scouring for more from that time but the cupboard is bare  :-X

I liked the second set of Patten mini's too. I'm not so keen on the Robi Baker sculpts as they are very large when compared to the older ranges. It's very much a salad days thing for me when I pull an image I'd forgotten about as they invoke a load of memories, usually of me getting wiped out to a man  lol

Thy are nice figures. Varied and with painted shields as well which look very effective, Warhammer ancients was a good system.

Nice :-* It’s interesting, your basic painting style hasn’t much changed, which I dare say goes for most of us.

Thanks Ulverston.

Back then I used to paint all my shields and steadfastly refused to go near transfers! I think my ego got in the way and TBH, it really slowed things down. nowadays I so a mix of transfers and hand painted. It depends where my mood takes me.

Hang on, are you saying my painting is basic?  ;) :D

I do know what you mean and it really depends on what I'm painting. From my perspective, at least, there's a big difference between something I hurry through and something that I really take my time with. I suspect that too is something that goes for most of us :)

very nice.

I thought Patten's 'Saxon Miniatures' range was superb, and bought a fair amount of it.

oddly enough, was googling it yesterday, and it seems Warlord took it on?
Went to their site, but couldn't see all the figures I remember...

Me too! I was elated when he started sculpting again and set up Saxon Miniatures. I've got pretty much everything post 900CE.

Yeah, a real shame IMHO. Warlord seem to so fickle, even mercurial when it comes to sticking to one thing and finishing ranges. I guess this is the result of having to answer to board members?

Ah! It's not just me then? There are some packs missing!  :)

Fingers crossed! They have so many fingers in so many different pies I think it unlikely (sadly).

Well blow me! Here's another!

This time straight up Vikings, no messing with two and weapons like the Gestir (see above):

All Gripping Beast except the Perry Casualty
