Title: Gordon Institute Loch Ness Adventure... in 28mm
Post by: War In 15MM on May 26, 2021, 05:13:16 AM
These pictures reflect my Gordon Institute Loch Ness collection which is the third installment of the adventures/research/exploration of the Gordon Institute for Archeology and Paranormal Study.  The Loch Ness project takes place in the mid-1930s when reports of “monster” sightings in and around Loch Ness began to attract the attention of the world and the researchers of the Gordon Institute.  Following an Institute review related to the events at Loch Ness and of documents associated with the mystery going back in history to the 6th Century (the Life of St. Columba by Adomnan), the Institute decided to establish two research stations on the banks of the loch… a headquarters station in a manor near the ruins of Urquhart Castle and a second station in an abandoned hunting lodge near Abriachan.  Both stations are situated near fishing lodges set along the loch.  You can see more of this collection in my Gordon Institute Loch Ness Gallery (113 pictures) on my vanity website at www.warin15mm.com(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204728145_18662416b7_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBJr)IMG_102a (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBJr) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204435514_94dd56355b_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7K5)IMG_106 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7K5) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51203865198_fb36e53893_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1Hcd3)IMG_110 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1Hcd3) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204435419_2c4f6562dc_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7Hr)IMG_124 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7Hr) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51203661976_8b56de5c10_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1G9Nd)IMG_128 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1G9Nd) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204728050_93783991ab_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBGN)IMG_201a (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBGN) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51202943372_fd43d81d74_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1Ctbu)IMG_207 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1Ctbu) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204728140_eb8fe4c074_h.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBJm)IMG_214 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBJm) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51203662046_4b6a81b1cd_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1G9Pq)IMG_218 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1G9Pq) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51202943437_00092d623f_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1CtcB)IMG_225 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1CtcB) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204435399_685271fbd9_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7H6)IMG_311 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1L7H6) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204728065_e8793a4490_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBH4)IMG_314 (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBH4) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51204728045_ce3148bb7b_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBGH)IMG_315+bw (https://flic.kr/p/2m1MBGH) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr

Wow!  Great figs, terrain, and vehicles.  Great idea/storyline, too.

I must say, that is a beautiful part of Scotland.  But Nessie doesn't look any too pleased... :)

Thank you for all the generous comments... much appreciated.  This was a fun project and I'm glad you enjoyed it.  I hope you can take the opportunity to see the complete gallery (113 photos) on my vanity website... link presented above.
Sgt_T, the sloop is a plastic pond sailboat I found at the swap meet.  It was broken... needed a new mast and other smaller repairs.  I cut it to waterline and set it in a base of Milliput and gave it a new paint job.  The seaplane is by Texaco.  It is die cast.  It is the Keystone-Leoning Commuter aka The Duck.

Thanks. Great job on the sloop.
I googled the seaplane but an affordable one on this side of the Atlantic would be difficult to find I guess.

Great stuff, as always! I have had a soft spot for Nessie since childhood. I made it a point to visit Loch Ness on my first trip to Scotland way back in 1986.

These are great minis and terrain. You've got amazing colors going on as well, especially that yellow against the blue, and all the neutrals playing off them. There's a lot to look at and it's all gorgeous.

Are the GW Laketown buildings MDF? Or plastic? I'd assume plastic.

I believe that is from an OOP Games Workshop set (link (https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/warhammer-village-building-set-oop-1812798718)).

Just read a cool article on one of the early people to make a concerted effort to search for the Loch Ness Monster:

Good story... thanks for sending it my way.  I've never read the entire piece before, but I think I ran into elements of it when I was researching the project.

Grumpy Gnome, thank you very much.  I had a wonderful time doing this project.  The Gordon Institute has became a great way for me to deal with a variety of projects that are both unique and a little crazy.  It is normal for me to photograph my collections in diorama layout form and post them on my vanity website as galleries.  With the Gordon Institute I am doing multiple postings on that website.  I am posting them as normal galleries, but I am also posting them as a separate menu item in episode form.  Thus far I have posted the background information for the Gordon Institute for Archeology and Paranormal Study... pictures of the Institutes campus and a write up that explains what it is and what it does.  I have also posted two of the Institutes adventure/expeditions in episodic form... their Egyptian archeological dig and the Loch Ness research programs.  They are both presented in 7 episodes (each) with pictures as well as story.  As it happens, today I just finished writing the first episode of the next Gordon Institute adventure... the search for the origins of the King Kong legend.  That will not be posted for several months, but it is coming.  You can see those that are complete plus the galleries at my vanity website at www.warin15mm.com

Grumpy Gnome, thank you very much... really glad you enjoyed website.  The Pulp Egypt is a favorite of mine.  In fact, I have turned it into a seven episode Gordon Institute adventure.  The Gordon Institute adventures are posted in the menu at the post of my website page.

Rather late to the party I'm afraid but cool to see this in fruition after following much of it in Richard's weekly workbench articles.  Alas, my tottering computer will no longer show me photos on his site so I don't know current status.  Last I was able to check, he was hard at work on his World War II north Africa collection.  Hope is on the horizon as I plan to get a new computer, probably the MacBook Pro 14" version - but it's going to be expensive!  Looking forward to getting full and visual access to his site again.  Sure, my phone can visit but it just isn't the same as seeing the larger photos - and it doesn't seem to link to the weekly workbench articles.

Love the paint jobs on those buildings, Richard!
