Coming very soon: a Kickstarter campaign from Galloping Major for The Western Range Apache Campaigns U.S. Cavalry
(https://youraccount.28.ekm.net/ekmps/shops/216c6f/resources/Design/boots-and-saddles-600.jpg)
If this Kickstarter is successful, we'll be able to launch the mounted versions of our dismounted 1880s U.S. Cavalry. As well as the mounted versions on their own (especially for those who already have the dismounted versions) choices of rewards will include mounted and dismounted versions of the 12 characters together and sets of the dismounted characters (for those who want to help, but don't "do" mounted actions.
It will launch on Monday 14th June and will run for just 15 days.

Ouch. I guess I have been mostly ordering plastic and resin figures from overseas and hadn't realized how high shipping has crept. I was looking at Mounted and Dismounted 1 which is £80... with a s&h of £35. All Dismounted 1 (£20) has a shipping cost of £15 to the U.S..
But they are really nice figures. Sigh.

Hi Michael,
I was amazed earlier this year when the US became the most expensive destination in the world to ship to due to increased charges at the delivery end. However, I've averaged out the costs outside the UK as "Rest of World"; I hope you can still be tempted as I've held down the cost of the figures for the Kickstarter - all those pewter horses will weigh quite a lot ;)
Cheers,
Lance

A closer view of the contents of the characters from dismounted pack TWR USC1, the two in the middle have the trapdoor breech of their carbines flipped open for loading; I had my own 1873 Springfield alongside me while sculpting :)

I'll finally get to say "Forward column of twos, Yoooo!" :D

I was thinking of replying with, 'To the ria huh!' but that was US Dragoons.
Hang on a minute, Lance how about (after you finish the 1880s) some
US Dragoons, oh and some early Apache, Commanche etc etc.
:P :P :P

lol lol lol
I'm trying to remember the name of that film Pete, if I remember correctly, wasn't Peter Graves the dragoon officer? :D
-
I think it was from The Hallelujah Trail, with Brian Keith. Been a long time so I may be misremembering. Which also had the memorable line "Protect both rears, simultaneously!"
-Michael
-
No, I think it was 'Texas Across the River'.
"I'll meet you in Texas"
"Where in Texas?"
"How big can it be? It's not even a State"
-

That was a really good comedy Western - and I remember that brilliant line, but as soon as I read has.been's Texas Across The River, I was fairly sure that was the one; but I looked it up on IMDb anyway: it turns out I was right about Peter Graves (from the original Mission Impossible TV series) playing the dragoon officer Capt. Rodney Stimpson, whose every order, whatever it was, came out to me anyway as "Hroo- Hrooor" lol despite which, the troopers always seemed to know which order to follow. I haven't seen that for years, must see if I can find it :D
Cheers,
Lance
-
Both were fun films, but I have seen neither in ages. I do remember the line about "the curse of Texas", still. But I had forgotten "How big can it be?" We live near the border with Mexico. It is a two day drive to visit my Mom and siblings in Tennessee. One whole day of driving is getting out of Texas!
-Michael

I have bitten the bullet with Mounted and Dismounted 1.

Pledged for the dismounted figures.
Lance, are you planning any 'Empty Horses'
(David Niven's autobiography, well one of them).
I await the Apache... & (maybe at some future date)
early 1800s Indians, Mexicans & Texican frontier folks.

Many thanks Pete :D I spotted that earlier ;)
I also picked up on the David Niven reference 8)
Yes, I do plan to do "empty horses" lol
First dismounted Apache pack is out now, I have lots more planned. I'm going to put the pack of Apaches in as an "add on" to the Kickstarter at a reduced price and no extra postage - you might want to watch out for that ::)
Cheers,
Lance
-
I’m in, hope it’s successful and encourages you to release more Apache and maybe mounted Buffalo soldiers (or maybe just some suitable heads for swaps??)

Goody goody!!
When do we get to see pictures?

That's great :D
If it goes through, I'll certainly be moving on to more Apaches and some Buffalo Soldiers :)
Thanks,
Lance

Hows about now :D I just created an add-on for them: "You can add one or more packs of TWR APA1 to your pledge at £6.50 per pack (usual price £7.50) and no extra shipping charge, there'll be a facility in your survey to add them in."
(https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/033/917/564/972386e8a757695d1ea953697926e174_original.jpg?ixlib=rb-4.0.2&w=680&fit=max&v=1623914154&auto=format&frame=1&q=92&s=4a28f2b049d4bb7c5dbd9e1ca1c9d1d1)
The Apache on the left brandishes a Richards conversion (to brass cased ammunition) 1860 Army Colt and a lethal stone headed club. These Apache clubs were a clever bit of stone-age technology which had the stone head 'free-floating' from the wooden shaft, the whole being wrapped in rawhide shrunk to fit to give extra impetus to the blow. The other 3 are armed with 1873 army Springfield carbines, 2 carry revolvers in holsters, all have knives. Three of these wear waistcoats (vests) and shirts and pants - which were usually white long under-draws beneath their breech clouts. The other (3rd from left, is bare-legged and wears shirt and breech-clout only. To use any of these as army scouts, paint their head-cloth red, although dedicated army scouts will be added later. There were occasions when more Apache scouts were in the field in pursuit of 'renegades' than regular soldiers.
I have only painted one of these Apaches so far, here is a picture of different angles:

Thanks Michael, that first pack should be ideal to give added variety to the members of different cavalry troops. 8)

Just 5 days to go and we're 98% of the way to the goal :) but, I know better than to be counting any chickens before they hatch :-X

This is the prototype figure I designed for the range: "The Tall Stranger", every backer will receive one with their rewards.

We went past the goal overnight, a big thank-you to our backers, now we all need to "hold the line" with 4 days to go before the project closes; any new backers coming in and any more add-ons applied to pledges will make the project all the more secure. If you're in and have any of the add-ons you've been thinking about adding to your rewards but haven't got round to, please take another look :D

Lance, I've filled in my 'Survey' which you said to do 'to manage
my pledge choices' HOWEVER
I want two packs of Apache (I am correct that you only do one
pack of dismounted Apache at the moment?) BUT the system
will not let me change the 'tick' option to a number, or choose
that option a second time.
Congrats on achieving the Kick-starter goal.
I look forward to further add-ons, like the Empty Horses. 8)

I had a feeling that might happen, not sure how much is down to the limitations of options in the Ks Pledge Surveys system, or just down to me missing something there ::)
I'll send out another update to explain to all backers - thanks for flagging it up, but just tick the box(es) then complete the survey, message me via Kickstarter logged on as you and confirm quantities :)
Cheers,
Lance

My dismounted versions turned up today, absolutely superb models, very clean castings, painting on the cowboys has already begun.
