Title: How to save space for terrain (storage)
Post by: tomrommel1 on June 10, 2021, 02:33:54 PM
I have a rather big collection of "Total System Senics" terrain tiles and some selfmade additions. My problem now is storrage space. Therefore i am thinking about getting rid of the terrain tiles and using different mats from deep cut studio. easier to store for me. The space I get back by getting rid of the terrain tiles could be used for more terrain used together with the mats.
I have got about 40 different tiles about half original ones the rest homemade, including rivers hills and cliffs.

is anyone interested in them or part of them? Drop me a pm

what do you think is this a good plan to follow up or should i keep the tiles? Issue then would be that i couldn#t build more terrain because of space problems.

I think it all depends on whether you are branching out into a new period and the terrain tiles don't match (i.e. desert). If not then you might wish to keep them and perhaps re-purpose some for the new terrain requirements.

The other consideration is the cost.  The mats are not cheap and if you need more than one type the overall cost will be quite high unless you can off set the cost by selling the tiles. The plus side is storage is easier with the mats.

Honestly, I never thought I’d be a fan of the mats - I’ve always been one for building my own terrain, but having bought a number of the deep cut mats, I’m sold on them now.

I will continue to make my own terrain, but mostly smaller pieces - the space saving and frankly the time saving of the mats has been a big plus for me.

Are those your TSS boards from your blog?

I think shipping across the pond would be prohibitive for me.  :'(

I ended up junking a lot of terrain boards in the last house move. They are very pretty but storage was becoming a big issue, they are more susceptible to damage and can be a little limiting in game play.

I use mats exclusively now, either shop-bought or home-made. With some nice drop-on terrain they can look good and I’ve freed up storage for………more figures! lol

Yes they are the tiles from my blog. And my haert bleeds when thinking about selling them. But I just need the space they take up for other terrain pieces. As I am based in Germany and the wargaming brotherhood isn't that big over here selling them will be difficult I suppose. So if I find a good home for them they will go if not I have to keep them as putting them in the bin is a waste of time and money.
