I’ve posted a blog entry on a new unit for my Swedish army of the 1620s, Åke Tott’s Cuirassiers. I used the new 28mm cuirassier figures from Avanpost Miniatures for this unit. I really enjoyed painting these as the figures are so nicely detailed. Cornet from Flags of War. More details and picture on my blog here : https://theviaregia.blogspot.com/2021/06/ake-totts-cuirassiers.html

They are lovely looking figures Andy.
I do just wish they were in metal. Metal and plastic I can cope with. Resin figures always seem particularly fragile to me - and these are particularly finely built figures by the look of them. Do they feel fairly robust in the hand?

I have loads of Avanpost resins (I don't like dealing with metals anymore), and I find the resin Avanposts uses has got some good give to it. Like a plastic fig, or even a metal one, you can of course break it if your not careful. However, the resin figs are just so full of detail!
I can highly recommend Avanpost Miniatures, great sculpts, great production, and great service from behind the Iron Curtain ;)

Much appreciated, Captain :D . I’m willing to forgive the figures a lot as I like the detail so much, but I think the drawn and flourished swords on these will be a problem. The scabbards can be an issue on foot figures, but on these cavalry the scabbards are all glued to the horse so shouldn’t be an issue. I think the lance has a metal (brass rod) core, based on other figures I have converted. They will be a strict “handle only by the base!” unit :o

Very nice indeed. I've held off buying the Avanpost cuirassiers, in the hope that they'll make them in metal. I don't think that's going to happen soon, however. It's something to do with the horses, which are apparently much easier and cheaper to cast in resin. Because I can't paint, and send everything off to be painted, my concern is that the figures wouldn't survive the trips to or from the painter. I may relent at some stage because they're such nice figures, but I've got plenty of other things in the pipeline.

Thanks, Paul. :)
I think that is a reasonable concern - I can’t imagine it would be easy to pack the completed models for posting etc.
Unfortunately I’m easily tempted and so I’ve bought another unit as I enjoyed these so much :D . They will further down the positing queue behind some more robust metals and plastics. Warlord plastic cavalry next 👍.

You're a braver man than I've been so far if you try tackling native Swedish units - as opposed to German units in Swedish service, which I believe Tott's regiment was. With the native Swedish units it's a case of no (or very few) buff coats and, from a certain date, no carbines.

Superb figures brilliantly painted!

Nice paint job. Love the white and dark patterns on the horses.
I just recently ordered four Avanpost Cuirassiers and two foot figures before the prices went out. I will see how the resin behaves. I find it interesting how most people here want metal, but the fantasy communities seem to prefer plastic and resin over metal.

Thanks, DragonWyrm! Much appreciated. 👍
The resin figures are beautiful sculpts and a joy to paint. I think the downside is that they are perhaps a little less robust in terms of fine details like swords and scabbards, than the metal alternatives. If these were in hard plastic or ‘bendy’ resin then I think there wouldn’t be the same concerns.
