As so often I'm late to the party so I've recently lost my Frostgrave virginity and been having a blast playing it. Off for a weekend campaign with mates at the end of the month so rather than repurpose existing minis I thought I'd paint a band from scratch. Just got to find time to get them done in between work...... no pressure then ;D o_o :o

Off to a great start, fantastic little mini.
-
Lovely job mate...the red nose is a nice touch :D
-
8) very cool...looks good!!!
-
Nice job. I always balk at doing proper wintery bases for my stuff, in part because I'm still holding out hopes for more Ghost Archipelago support and in part because I've used my actual Frostgrave figs more for RPGs than the game itself.
-
Glad you tried it out and enjoyed it. No matter how many times you play it is still fun and interesting.
-
A few more...

Nice! I like those a lot 8)
-
Excellent sculpts and brushwork. I am finding myself increasingly interested in trying out Frostgrave but there just never seems enough free time.
-
Well, I got them done in time despite a manic workload and a week where it was impossible to paint due to weather. Unfortunately, the campaign weekend has been postponed due to the plague :'(
Anyways, here we go; Snow Gray and the 7ish Dwarves (provisionally named Dave T, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, Titch, Pugh, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble & Grubb)

Fantastic painting. Really characterful faces on these. More than a touch of the Irish about some of the dwarves as well…..
-
Lovely paintwork and a very neat combination of miniatures there, but for cripes sake, someone give Snowy a sandwich. You can practically see the poor woman's backbone through her navel she's so thin. :)

Fantastic painting!
Which range are the Dwarves from?
-
Which range are the Dwarves from?
They're the Ratnik/LAF ones - the sculpts must be getting on for 15 years old; some of the sculpting is pretty ropey (finger prints on the putty not smoothed out before moulding and details missing) but they've got buckets of character that lets me forgive their shortcomings.
-
Fingerprints on the master add character, and it proves they weren't sculpted on a computer. :)
-
Cracking! :-* Snowy is a great miniature, managed to get a spare years ago from Sally :)
I particularly like the little chap with pipe and axe, lovely figure. Whilst I understand about the sculpting issues (I have some of his PA minis),there’s something very characterful about them.
Anyway.
-
Snowy is a great miniature
Sasha (her real name) was always my favourite of the charity minis. Again, 10 years old now but easily holds up. Still spin the mould occasionally when somebody wants one.
I particularly like the little chap with pipe and axe, lovely figure.
Agree 100% - in a range of really characterful minis, he stands out.

They a very characterful band of Dwarfs :-* :-* :-*
Great painting :-* :-* :-*
-
Beautiful brushwork!
:-* :-*
(Gotta love those names, especially Eks Bokstu lol )
-
Lovely as always.
Jeff there is clearly an old-school D&D veteran who knows how to listen at doors safely. People stop laughing at hauling an ear trumpet around the dungeon after the first unfortunate "rot grub in the woodwork" incident.
Who makes that Crofty fig? Really a standout sculpt.
-

They're all (apart from Sasha, obviously) from the Ratnik/LAF line (available from Magister Militum in the UK (please don't buy the ones I haven't got as he only has limited stock ;))
He's lovely but does have an issue in that (I think) the mould is old and grappling iron needs some serious scraping and filing - not enough to warrant sending back but a PITA all the same
-
Eks Bokstu lol )
In the first game with these I was writing down the equipment and, in a moment of complete stupidity, wrote that the crossbowwoman had an X-Box instead of X Bow so that was what she was known as throughout the evening. The second one with a crossbow is obviously X-Box 2... ;D
-
lol
Great work 8)
-
Gorgeous! Lovely brushwork! I love your skin tones!
-
Not a fan of giving them names, makes it harder to accept it when they suffer the classical "axe to the head" syndrome.
-
Fantastic paintwork.. I’m not surprised Mutton is deaf if he’s been hitting things with that huge hammer…being around him must be like being inside Big Ben at midday…
-

True, although I find a nice fresh coat of paint is far more dangerous to a figure's health most of the time. If I ever write a rule set I'm including a bonus to hit for any target whose paint job was finished that week just to make the effect explicit.
Of course, unfinished figs would suffer twice as much to start, with the bonus increasing the longer they spend in primer or (shudder) bare metal. :)

With my usual die rolling this is a usual occurrence so the names will either be bad puns or those of people I don't like ;)
-
Brilliant painting. :)

Minty & Rhino to go and then onto some nasties
-
Oooh, they are a bit good.

Those bases look damn fine too, making me want to back and redo some of mine.....

Ron could be one of my favorites so far.
Looking forward to see some nasties after being given your brushes attentions.

Rhino and Minty are excellent, what a cracking collection Dags, lovely :-*
-
Just a lovely idea for at Frostgrave warband. And the execution is fantastic.
-
Continually fantastic! The colour tones and basing fit really well and create a great winter atmosphere.
-
Excellent.
Minty really gives the impression she does not want to be there.

Cracking stuff!

I fancied an apothecary and a more active wizard for my little FG band and as nobody made what I wanted I asked LAF's own Tin Shed if he could help (can't recommend Mark too much - top bloke). You may have seen these on his WIP page but after picking up the greens yesterday 'someone' couldn't wait to get them moulded...

There's also Andy the Minor Demon as it's my mate's birthday coming up and as Cast Demon is his favourite spell (even if he isn't that successful casting it) it seemed rude not to ;) Any resemblance is purely deliberate.

Look great in the metal. I think the apothecary is brilliant! Looking forward to you getting some paint on all.

8) way cool!!!
-
Better late to the party than not there at all! I am still painting for Frostgrave and even plan a Halloween special this month… :D
Your band is one of the coolest (coldest???) I've seen so far!
-
Beautiful!
That is one seriously gorgeous warband you have on your hands there, you should be very happy with them.
:-* :-*
-
Well you got them coloured in PDQ lol
I do like the way you use transfers. They make wizard's clothing pop.
Has Andy got you planning another warband yet?

They may have jumped the queue a bit ;)
His Nibs put them into rubber on Monday morning and dropped me off a set of castings that night 8)
I'm rather worried he has plans for a whole legion of (minor) demonic minihims :o
My freehand isn't neat enough to do that many stars consistently (there's 30-40 of them) so decals (1/300th tank ones from Minibits) were the obvious way to go.
Gaming at Ainsty Towers this weekend so I'm sure it will be discussed :D
-
I'm all for using transfers. Using them in a different context to their original .Is a smart move.
I'll quite happily paint banners and shields all day long ( but then I'm an idiot) Never held with that subtle BS that using transfers is somehow cheating. Achiving your desired results with the minimum use of your time Is just smart.
I'm sure your warband will do well. After all they've nothing to fear but snow drifts.

You and me both. Not afraid to freehand on flat surfaces but doing it on flowing clothing and complex curves scares the hell out of me.
-
Very nice.
I love the effect of the transfer stars on that wizard.
